There's one thing I've always wondered about this film: don't babies cry, like all the time? Usually to let adults know they need help? By that logic, did sadness know her purpose when Riley was born and lost it when she became a toddler?
Have you ever heard of happy babies? Some babies don't cry that much. Also Sadness had the right instincts even if she wasn't sure why she felt compelled. Understanding your emotions is quite different than having them. ...Also I don't think that Joy was acting in a purposeful way either, just acting out of instinct.
I've had the thought that they could have given Joy an extra line when she's listing the purposes of the other emotions and gets to Sadness. Something about how Sadness used to be helpful but now that Riley can talk to ask for things she's just kind of hanging around.
They portrayed depression so well. The lack of ability to feel anything. Also, same is often the first thing you can feel while depressed and can be used as a bridge back to your other emotions.

This movie is a showcase why Pixar is the top company to work for if you're an animator. Such a crazy creative movie based simply on something as mundane as "emotions". Pixar really has been able to make great movies out of the oddest things. Toys that come to life, monsters that come through your closet and scare you to power their city, a rat that wants to be a French chef, an old man who flies his house to South America, and emotions inside of heads. "...does she only have five emotions..." The original concept called for something like _thirty_ of them. But... you can't have a _movie_ about thirty people and have any of them _mean_ much, so they paired it down _a lot_ to try to make it possible to tell the story.

This movie is real tear jerker, once a professor passed this movie on a psychology class when I was in college and it made grown ass man cry, some real good storytelling and theme.
This movie works on so many levels and I loved it. They did how ever didn't show one emotion depression and you can see it on Bingbong's flower it's gray.
Depression isn't an emotion, though. It's a loss of emotion. Inability to feel any emotion. Which is what happened to Riley when she ran away. The board went grey and was unresponsive. Fear even said "We can't make Riley feel anything."
@@WhiteWoof very fair point and thanks for that. I've been suffering with depression and anxiety since I was 12 years old and I love movies like this that isn't scared to touch on subjects like emotions.
The workers weren't just getting rid of memories she doesn't need anymore. They were getting rid of stuff that was associated with Goofball island. And for the record, if at any point you've ever said, "I'm not a kid anymore.", that's how you know YOUR goofball island has been destroyed.
Originally there were 17 emotions, but the production crew decided thst was going to confuse viewers and make the scenes really crowded, since so many were mostly a different facet of another. So they cut things down to 5.
Joy goes through all five emotions throughout the film. Joy is obviousy her primial emotion but she shows anger when she scolds Sadness at the start, Disgust towards The Imaginary Boyfriend, Fear during Abstract Throughts and to the horrors of the Subconscious especially Jangles the Clown and finally Sadness at the Memory Dump. The other emotions do shows other emotions outside of their primial ones but just a couple. Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust shows some kind of happiness at times, Sadness shows fear about the same time as Joy does and Disgust shows angrer when she shouts "What do we know about being happy?!".
The Guards Dave and Frank are voiced by Frank Oz and Dave Goelz, two of the original muppeteers (Oz is retired but Goelz despite being in his 70's still puppeteering). Frank Oz have puppeteered Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Sam the Eagle, Grover, Cookie Monster and even Yoda in Star Wars (and voiced him in Episodes II and III even if Yoda there was a digital character) and voiced Fungus in Monsters, Inc. Dave Goelz puppeters Gonzo, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Zoot, Waldorf (taking over from Jim Henson after he passed away in 1990) Beaugarde and voices Figment at Journey Through YOUR Imagination at Epcot (Figment also makes a cameo in this movie as portrait, right after Bing Bong have been consoled by Sadness). Speaking of Epcot, this movie have similar themes with the former attraction Cranium Command at the now defunct Wonders of Life, which is a animatronic and screen show about a Brain Pilot named Buzzy controlling the brain of a 12 year old boy named Bobby and interacting with guys controlling his organs like Left and Right Brain, The Heart, The Stomach, The Aderaline Gland and The Bladder plus a robot The Hypothalumus, controlling the automatic functions like breathing and blinking. Buzzy controls Bobby through a day of his life consisting of waking up and getting dressed, skipping breakfast and missing the school bus, running to school, fall with love with a girl, defending her against bullies, having a food fight at lunch, sent to the principle's office and getting kissed by the girl, all this while Buzzy's CO General Knowledge giving him advice and warnings of being transfered to the brain of a chicken if he fails his mission. Director Pete Docter worked on Cranium Commands' pre show as an animtor (before he started at Pixar) and his head makes a cameo in it. Docter wasn't consciously thinking of Cranium Command when he did Inside Out but realized it when he was reminded of the former afterwards. The Disney short Inner Workings also have a similiar theme to Cranium Command, about a brain taking control of a guy named Paul and his daily routine while The Lungs, Heart, Stomach and Bladder distracting Paul by giving away to temptations such as eating pancakes and buying sun glasses from a hot chick. This movie was shown before Moana/Vaiana in theaters.
Im impressed with how quickly you were able to notice the negative effect that Joy was having for Riley. Most reactors just instantly love Joy and hate Sadness lol.
The reason we have a hard time seeing Bing bong's death scene or him disappearing it triggers us because deep down inside we all once imagine a friend to be in our lives. And to us they were real, and we all had a wonderful childhood. At least in my case I know that's why this scene hit me so hard I remember my imaginary friend and it's kind of like those small memories you don't think about, but they do still exist inside us somewhere in our hearts and memories. Zanna, also known as Imaginary Friends, are a type of creature that act as guides and guardian angels to children in need of them. They do so under the guise of being a child's imaginary friend for as long as the child needs them, but once the child no longer needs them, the Zanna leaves and moves on to another child. But the emotions are a lot, but Sadness is correct sadness is needed in our lives weather we can relate to or not is up to other people but to me I can see how Sadness can make us show Empathy for others and also bring in help when we need it, because when your sad it's the time most try to listen. if you try to hide all your emotions like Joy tries to do, it's not a good thing, in that case it's kind of toxic in my opinion because you can't live your life like that, and the reasons Sandess is reacting this way, it's because Raily's body is changing, and her moving away caused the emotions to become stronger and more mixed of confusion and sadness.
I find it interesting how quickly you went from saying that Joy needs to be more assertive and that Rylie is "fine" to saying that Joy is annoying and explaining all the reasons why Rylie should be allowed to be upset.
Originally Riley was gonna say "I lost my train of thouhgts." after The Train derailed but it was cut because it wasn't appropiate to have a joke at that moment.
According to IMDb, they originally started with 27 emotions, but settled on 5 to make the movie less complicated. Some of the emotions that were cut were Surprise, Pride and Trust.
I have to say, you're one of the few reactors on here that are actually worth watching. I've been here since you had like 10k subs. The editing and effort you put into these videos is top notch and the fact that you actually give real input not just sit there and look pretty. Keep it up! That's why you (and The Normies) are my favorite reaction channels on here. Also one request, I know it's more of an anime, but I highly recommend it it's called "A Silent Voice." :D
I actually was quite satisfied with anger making the decision to escape. Really drives the point of "don't make drastic decisions when mad" really hard.
Alot of people hated Joy's character. They had to redo her lines and stuff too bc TOO MANY people hated her. I think her character isn't always likeable it is a part of her character arc.
8:52-8:56 ...I just had a violent flashback to the dead Remy mouse when Riley first moved into the new house. Wonders if I should tell her Remy's dead in this universe...
I love this movie SOOOOOO much. I’ve said this before, the more happiness takes over in a bad position, the more chaotic sadness becomes and which causes her to freak out more
Is anybody gonna talk about the Elephant in the room? (NOT Bing Bong) How Anger is literally destroying Riley's personality traits aka the Islands in her mind.
I was about to watch this movie when I was 11 years old but wasn't able to due to the fact that it was being over-hyped I watched it on October 2019 and loved it!
When sadness started to change the core memories it wasn't like she did It on purpose, she herself said that she simply wanted to touch them, even though she didn't know why That's literally Riley's mind trying desperately to fell sad about the memories because no matter how good they were at the time, the fact that Riley's family moved out makes impossible to relive it without feeling sad about it It wasn't Sadness fault because Riley's mind was basically forcing her to make Riley sad, cause' right than that's everything she needed to fell
So the islands shut down because when you get depressed, one of the common signs is losing interest in everything you used to enjoy doing. even the activities and hobbies and things that used to be fun and used to be a core part of who you are don’t help or make you feel better and you have no energy or desire to do them anymore so that’s what the movie was illustrating with islands shutting down.
I never had an imaginary friend, but I did have an imaginary herd of horses who followed me all around school, and I had a notebook where I listed out all their names and descriptions, and also assigned specific classmates who each horse followed around throughout the day.
"Did anyone ACTUALLY have an imaginary friend...?" Yes. I had an imaginary friend as a kid because I couldn't talk very well and didn't know how to make friends and was always bullied...so yeah, I had an imaginary friend because I was so lonely 😅
I love how Pixar can explain heavier themes in this fun way. Could you please react to The Queens Gambit? I would love to hear your opinion! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍💛💛💛💛💛

Watching movies with you makes me feel less alone, thanks for your content, I love it!!
Thank you for another video 😊
I don’t mean to sound like a creep for commenting “thanks for another video” on most of your videos, I genuinely enjoy them. I lost my sister 4 months ago and we would watch and rewatch all kinds of movies together. I miss that really much. Watching your reaction videos make me feel a bit more comforted and less lonely during my movie nights. I’m unable to enjoy any movie if I watch it by myself. You don’t know how grateful I am.
I’m really sorry about your sister! I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for you to lose a sibling.
I definitely agree with you about Sophie. Her reaction videos always makes me feel better every Saturday because I’m currently in college and I always get exhausted from all the work I have to do. Seeing a new video always makes me feel relaxed and happy.
@@nicolasbaron4506 thank you for the kind words. I wish you a great weekend! 😊
I’m so sorry for your loss! I’m glad my videos make you feel a little bit better. Hope you’re ok 🥺
@@SophieLents Thank you Sophie, for the words and for your help. I’m so happy you got to know how meaningful your videos are to me 😄
I’m so sorry for your loss. Sophie’s reactions always make me feel better whenever I feel sad. Sending you a hug. 🤗
"Oh, finally a reaction where the reactor wont berate sadness and acknowledge its importance from the get go!"
3 minutes later
"OH, COME ON!!!!!"
1) As a dad, the monkey act is EVERYTHING and when it stops working, it’s a tragedy.
2) Bing Bong’s death is the worst. Top 3 saddest Pixar moments.
3) If you were an emotion, I’d call you Mischievous. You’d be shaped like Fear, have the unicorn’s rainbow hair and Sadness’s outfit.
4) I remember when my Friendship Island 1.0 collapsed…
"...does she only have five emotions..."
The original concept called for something like _thirty_ of them. But... you can't have a _movie_ about thirty people and have any of them _mean_ much, so they paired it down _a lot_ to try to make it possible to tell the story.
I love that this movie denounces what has been called toxic positivity. My mom always was one of those and it shaped how my life turned out.
I’m am not at my best, let’s just say.
I love this movie. I think it’s one of those movies everyone needs to see. Sadness is my favorite 💙
The bus driver in the end scene cracked me up.
I need to tell you, that every time I watch "Inside Out" after seeing your reaction to it, I'm always thinking about the hilarious thing about the father who can't get over the "monkey play"
With this little montage... I'm basically here to rewatch it
Also, I love your reactions so much because those reactions always make me feel better. So thank you for the amazing reactions Sophie. ❤️
1:21 She’ll Be In Inside Out 2
Not gona spoil but anxiety carried inside out 2
This movie is top tier
I literally cry every time I watch it
25:42 Actually, the emotions ARE her. Everything that happens in Riley's head, IS Riley.
Just like Joy, Sophie’s reaction videos always make me happy every weekend!
Same. 😊
Homaigod you've done it, you've reacted to all of my top 3 modern animated film. Sooo happy right now
I love this movie! I’m so glad you’re doing this reaction!
Originally there were 17 emotions, but the production crew decided thst was going to confuse viewers and make the scenes really crowded, since so many were mostly a different facet of another. So they cut things down to 5.
Been waiting for this one.
Who’s your friend who fades away, Bing Bong! Bing Bong!
Who won’t see the end of day, Bing Bong! Bing Bong!
Ouch😢
my god i love your humor very VERY much, every joke makes me laugh.
LOLI LOVE THE REFERENCE TO DYLANS CHANNEL. 💀💀💀
IKR. Made my day to know she’s a troublemaker as well🙏😌
The Guards Dave and Frank are voiced by Frank Oz and Dave Goelz, two of the original muppeteers (Oz is retired but Goelz despite being in his 70's still puppeteering).
I to felt sad when my Grandparents passed away it was very difficult for me when I lost them I felt awful 😣 😞 I was always afraid when they died
6:41 funny thing is that she should she was just doing what riley felt.. her happy memories turning sad bc of all of her changes in her life etc
"Joy needs to be more assertive."
Ohhhhhhhh-kayyyyyy....
"Is Joy in charge?" Answer: Ideally 😊☺🥰💖
Fun Fact: Fear is voiced by Bill Hader who also played Flint Lockwood in CWACOM
What Riley goes through aboard the buss is apathy rather than depression, as depression is sadness at the most extreme.
Alot of people hated Joy's character. They had to redo her lines and stuff too bc TOO MANY people hated her. I think her character isn't always likeable it is a part of her character arc.
This is a really good Disney Pixar movie I think thank you for this reaction
8:52-8:56 ...I just had a violent flashback to the dead Remy mouse when Riley first moved into the new house. Wonders if I should tell her Remy's dead in this universe...
I forget how great these movies are.
I love this movie SOOOOOO much.
I’ve said this before, the more happiness takes over in a bad position, the more chaotic sadness becomes and which causes her to freak out more
Is anybody gonna talk about the Elephant in the room? (NOT Bing Bong)
How Anger is literally destroying Riley's personality traits aka the Islands in her mind.
Yesss, love your reactions!!!
I cried at the ending scene 😥
I almost cried in Bing Bong’s death scene. 😢
@@rachelkelly2293 same 😭
Everytime i see the cat scene i just burst out laughing.
One of my Pixar favourites🥰. The animation and that SCORE?? SO good! Definitely love everything about this film
I was about to watch this movie when I was 11 years old but wasn't able to due to the fact that it was being over-hyped I watched it on October 2019 and loved it!
I really love Disney & Pixar's Inside Out (2015)! It's one of the best animated feature films ever!
When sadness started to change the core memories it wasn't like she did It on purpose, she herself said that she simply wanted to touch them, even though she didn't know why
That's literally Riley's mind trying desperately to fell sad about the memories because no matter how good they were at the time, the fact that Riley's family moved out makes impossible to relive it without feeling sad about it
It wasn't Sadness fault because Riley's mind was basically forcing her to make Riley sad, cause' right than that's everything she needed to fell
In the original concept, Riley was to have 26 emotions... Or so I heard
Sadness (Phyllis Smith) & Joy (Amy Poehler) carried the movie. Bing Bong (Richard Kind), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), Anger (Lewis Black) & Fear (Bill Hader) were huge helps.
It included two stars from The Office and one from Parks and Recreation, both of which are one of my favorite shows!
The dad from inside out looks a lot like the sing from the song YMCA
Tanks for watching this movie
I never had an imaginary friend, but I did have an imaginary herd of horses who followed me all around school, and I had a notebook where I listed out all their names and descriptions, and also assigned specific classmates who each horse followed around throughout the day.
I love your Videos! Your so funny!
"Did anyone ACTUALLY have an imaginary friend...?" Yes. I had an imaginary friend as a kid because I couldn't talk very well and didn't know how to make friends and was always bullied...so yeah, I had an imaginary friend because I was so lonely 😅
I rly understand Joy and her actions and yes, it was Sadness fault that they wasnt in her brain
I am in Love with your personality during these reactions. I'll continue to support your channel 🤘
I love how Pixar can explain heavier themes in this fun way.
Could you please react to The Queens Gambit? I would love to hear your opinion! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍💛💛💛💛💛
I had both an imaginary friend (Posie) and an alter-ego: Jelly Keller. LOL Yeah...my Imagination Land was massive.
yes girl, yes
This movie had a great message to it and I loved this movie and perfect reaction beautiful Sophie lents
