William "The Refrigerator" Perry preps for Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest (2003)

Former NFL Chicago Bears football player, William "The Refrigerator" Perry (aka "The Fridge") competed in the Annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island in New York on July 4, 2003. The day before the contest (07/03/2023), "The Fridge" was interviewed about his upcoming participation in the world famous contest on The Early Show. Also interviewed were 2 other competitors: Takeru Kobayashi (then the reigning world champion, this was way b4 Joey Chestnut!), and Sonya Thomas. Each contestant was asked what their game plan or strategy was to perform well and possibly win it! Richard Shea, spokesman for Nathan's, was also interviewed. The Early Show co-anchors in this scene include: Harry Smith, Hannah Storm and René Syler.
