    Hong Kong. The 2nd of June 2013. A cybersecurity agent sits in the bustling restaurant of the Mira Hotel. He fiddles nervously with a Rubik's cube. He looks up and his gaze locks with two newcomers - a man and a woman, one a hardened journalist and the other a documentary filmmaker. As he recognises the pair, he pockets the cube and stands.
    Silently, they make their way through the hotel towards the elevators. As they enter the agent's hotel room silently, the woman unclasps her case on the unmade bed, revealing camera equipment.
    As she sets her camera on a tripod, the agent takes his position on a chair opposite the journalist. The room hums with the weight of their impending conversation. The world, unknowing, teetered on the brink of a revelation from Edward Snowden that would change it forever.
    More than 10 years on since Snowden’s infamous NSA leaks, the debate over whether he is a friend or foe to America rages on.
    Telling the story of Edward Snowden is a difficult task, with the facts contained in the available sources conflicting on even the most innocuous of facts. Nevertheless, this video is an attempt to tease out the truth, and where that is not possible, present the claims from both ends of the ‘friend versus foe’ spectrum as objectively as possible.

      He lost my support when he revealed more than he had to and turned to Russia of all dictatorships, Russia that has made repressing its own citizens into an art. Makes one wonder if he had lost his mind or intended to find a reason to betray his country because he felt resentful for being chastised.

From this documentary and other interviews, he impresses me as having the best motivation. In one interview President Putin said he thought Snowden should have gone through channels to make his exposures. That was several years ago, before Putin understood how politicized and therefore unreliable our justice system has become. M enjoying this new found channel. Tyvm

    The absolute panic I have seen coming from the American establishment since President Trump won the Presidency without their permission has exposed much to the American people. We now know just how deep the corruption goes. Our government is simply not what we thought it was.

    I've got mixed feelings about Snowden. It does seem to me that incidents like this are good for our democracy. Laws allow our government to do to us what are illegal for us to do to the government. To shine light on this as Snowden has apparently done can be as good as it is bad. So it should be encouraged as much as it is discouraged. How to do that????
    To throw mud at Snowden is outrageous. So we see that he told some lies in his past. I suspect it would be harder to find someone who hasn't told lies in our country than who have. Matter of fact, it's likely that the US lies on a regular basis. People can come up with conspiracy theories and reveal them to the universe but to bring proof, are destroying our democracy? How screwed up is that?

    I think that we all know that spying is the second oldest profession in the world and is a fact of life, even necessary but Snowdon has been proven correct in subsequent years. The use of the clandestine services as Ian anti democratic weapon of lawfare is apparent to all. The analogy I always fall back to is that of an immune system lacking sufficient natural exercise fighting alien invaders has turned on its own host and is attacking it instead. We have an autoimmune disorder in the form of under-utilised three letter agencies attempting to make themselves seem relevant to preserve their fiefdoms. A state that believes all its citizens to be enemies of the state is no better than a terrorist state. As an Englishman I envy you your constitution and the protections it awards you against a rogue state in the form of your own government.

    There is a difference between potential abuse of power, and actual abuse of power.
    Snowden complained about the potential abuse of power - a valid concern. But never about actual abuse of power.
    The way he did so - by exposing it to the world, and then later moving to Russia - is a problem. He is a sad case of stupidity, not a hero.

    • @gabrieloursoff6249
      @gabrieloursoff6249 11 місяців тому +17

      How else could he had exposed it? Also he didn't willingly move to Russia, rather his passport was frozen and had no other option, I believe he initially wanted to go to Ecuador. Either way what the US government did is disastrous. I mean compiling information of everyone about everything is bad enough, and I really doubt that there was other way to expose what was happening, as the NSA was actually expanding the extent of their surveillance and upgrading their storage, plus all the corruption and governments desire for more and more power. I do think he's a hero and what he did is nothing but courageous.
