I came up in a Wiccan family and I can 100% confirm that yes, ouija boards are a literal board game by Hasbro and Parker Bros. They're about as supernatural as Candyland. Imagine being a grown adult afraid of Candyland.

Before I knew I was autistic I saw some of these "exorcisms". I'm fairly convinced that some of them were being performed on other autistics (especially the nonverbal victims) that were going through meltdowns due to sensory overload because there was someone yelling at them which made the meltdown worse which prompted the preacher to increase their intensity which only made it worse for the victims and jut turned into a feaback loop.

Yeah, lots of disability awareness people have been pointing out that "demonic possessions" and "exorcisms" were epileptic seizures and people with autism.
And the story of changelings is definitely inspired by autistic children. "My child was fine, but then started acting "non-human"" just sounds like a medieval way of explaining "I noticed my child started exhibiting autistic traits and I don't understand it. Must be fairies"
On one hand it's interesting how older people explained these things, but on the other hand F*** THEM ALL for using that to abuse people. I have become more aware of these things as I study folklore, and some things just make me truly sad for all the people that had to suffer because of ignorance.

I was 14 when my dad developed schizophrenia. Because we were firm believers in demons, rather that getting him professional help, we took him for an exorcism. I'm now 51 and still have trauma from watching my dad scream and cry for help while he was held down and screamed at for over an hour. Needless to say, the exorcism did not help. He finally went to the hospital, where he stayed for nearly 2 years before he was stable enough to come home.

Turns out I just had an untreated heart problem, where my body was forced to produce insane amounts of stress hormones to keep my heart beating fast enough. As someone who spent my childhood in a church like these, I can tell you that “speaking in tongues” is a truly surreal experience. Looking back as an adult, I can see how we were led to put ourselves into an almost hypnotic state. They would have us repeat these words and sounds repeatedly, until I could feel my jaw muscles starting to jerk, similar to how your muscles do when you have a chill. And as I continued to repeat the words, they became distorted by my jaw quivering, until the now-foreign-sounding words began to come out automatically. I was no longer speaking. My mouth and throat were doing it by themselves. At that point, I was “speaking in tongues”.

Of course, it gets very dicey for them to explain things when the opposite occurs - often resorting to “mysterious ways” type arguments to maintain the cognitive dissonance…

It’s frustrating to say the least, because they use everything as evidence. Something good happens to people who do a practice? It’s because they are trafficking in demons and the demons are interrupting the actual order of things. Something bad happened? “They had it coming, wearing that crystal like that!!” They believed that psychologists were demon traffickers so obviously a psychologist saying, “Your child is mentally suffering because of what you are doing to them.” Is only confirmation to them. Needless to say, it’s near impossible to try and get them to see sense.

We went to a church in a barn. There was so much of this. I didn't know I was ADHD until later in life, but they tried doing exorcism weekly for almost a decade for my symptoms, which were basically fidgeting during the 3 hour service, not paying attention, not believing "understanding" what they're saying, and hiding/ meltdowns when they would find me under chairs or the coat pile. They would all lay hands, talk in tongues, screaming, pushing me down, dumping oil on my forehead, and putting a blanket over your head when you'd be forced to the ground. It was so traumatic that I'm just now dealing with it at 40. I left my family no contact 2 years ago. The kindest thing that happened at the church was an older gentleman pulled me aside and told me to call to the floor and start convulsing right away and they'll leave you alone. So that became my strategy every Sunday and almost every Wednesday. They also forced me to get baptized in a sheep dip a few times a year. They said I had a sexual, rebellious demon that would not loose its hold on me. I didn't even know what what sex was when it started. 😢😢😢

I looked to Christian content and what they described as demonic I saw in myself so I thought I had something evil in me. Long story short I decided to fast (not eat) that week. I was hungry and dehydrated. Then I went to a deliverance service and the worship team set a hypnotic atmosphere (repetitive words, closed eyes, soft instruments in the background). And when the pastor yelled at ‘the spirit in me’ to get out I started screaming and kicking uncontrollably. It felt like I was in a trance.. I was aware of what was going on but I had no way of controlling it. All I know for sure is this: I allowed it. I was convinced there was an evil spirit in me. I was mentally and physically primed (I had not been eating so I was weak) for me to fall victim to this. A year later and I’m not a Christian anymore, I got the diagnosis that I’m bipolar and I’m on treatment and I’m going to therapy. I feel better than ever.

She spoke nothing but gibberish for while, and began shaking violently. In the end, it turned out to be withdrawal. When she finally spoke with a psychiatrist, it turned out to be from over a decade of drug and sexual abuse, beginning with group sex with grown men at age 13. Her mother had been extraordinarily religious and punished her in such manner rather than go to authorities. From that, the woman always assumed her troubles always had demons behind them.

I think you ought to try to call it what it is rather than what the men would like you to call it. That way, you don't sound like a misogynist or a pedophile. It's better to explain the situation using the victim's words from the victim's subjective experience. Here's what you should say: The woman was gang-raped as a child of 13 by pedophiles for a decade. This is a form of human trafficking slavery, as all people under 18 cannot consent to child prostitution. The men are the perpetrators and are 100% at fault. The word "rape" should be used rather than "sex" as "rape" is a non-consensual torture done to people using penetration of the victim's vagina, anus, or mouth, by body parts or objects causing the ripping, tearing, bleeding, crushing and excruciating pain of the raped person. The rapist's gender and parts they are using is irrelevant as are the gender and parts that got ripped open in the victim. These men were exploiting her, making the gang-rapes more easy for them to do by drugging her. Her mother supported the gang-rapists due to being a psychotic sadistic narcissist. (It's also possible that her mother was collecting money and was trafficking her daughter to the rapist monsters.) You should never call a gang rape "group sex" as "group sex" is a consensual activity done amongst consenting adults that does not rip people's internal organs to shreds how gang rape does. She now has a functional neurological disorder caused by complex trauma that makes her shake violently. This is on top of her withdrawal from the drugs she was forced to take by the pedophiles. They can still be called pedophiles after she turned 18, because they started raping her when she was still a child. She has to see a therapist to get trauma therapy for her PTSD and functional neurological disorder (most likely psychogenic non-epileptic seizure disorder). I am telling you this out of my own experience of being a human trafficking slave who got trafficked to pedophiles who gang raped me as a baby, child and teen. I always feel invalidated when the people who are describing my experiences to others and they use words of consent such as "group sex" or "sex" or any suggestion that it's my fault I got raped. They should say that I got gang-raped by violent bloodthirsty pedophiles who sometimes drugged me to make it easier to torture me because I would be too tired to kick and bite people as they were tearing my internal organs apart and blood was gushing out of me and I was in excruciating pain at all times. The bleeding also never really stopped. It just went on and on. Sometimes less and sometimes more, depending on their torture of me. So it really is better if you use the proper words like torture and slavery and gang rape, to honor the victim's experience. Stop talking like a pedophile and calling these tortures "group sex." It's rude and insensitive to that victim whose life you are describing and it's rude and insensitive to me and every other survivor. Some of us will get seizures and panic attacks just from you using the wrong words to describe our torture experiences. So don't do this to us. Cease and desist, and use our words. Your words sound stupid.

Then the cherry on top. It says to refute crystals. A rock formation that God created is demonic because some people think they're magic. I audibly chuckle while he continues reading it.
Prayer ends. I turn to him, shaking my head, and say "I'm not saying that now or ever again, that was ridiculous." He says nothing in return. I moved out like a month later. @@ace..of..hearts_they-them_ Older than Kabbalah, definitely, but the Torah (the original 5 books of Bible) was either written around 1220 BCE in the theory that the biblical Moses wrote the Torah or around 550 BCE in the theory that the majority of the OT was written during the babelonian exile. Some of the earliest records of Greek Mythology are from Homer's Illiad and The Odyssey which was written between 720 BCE and 680 BCE. Therefore, depending on which theory you subscribe to on when the bible (at least the OT/Torah) was written, the bible could be older or younger than the earliest recorded records of greek mythology.
Norse Mythology is MUCH younger, only being officially written down 1220 CE by Snori Snowenson, a Norwegian christian monk. The "true Norse mythology" has been completely lose to time, as the only surviving records of Norse Mythology are in the Eddas and various pop culture based on them, with both Eddas being written by clearly incredibly biased christain monks in the middle ages. We don't actually know how much of the mythology as told by Snori is what the vikings actually believed and what was made up or embellished by Snori to push some sort of message or theme. Therefore, the Norse mythology we know is practically fanfiction from Snorri as the Norse only wrote down small fragments of their stories in runes that have never been translated, similar to Egyptian hieroglyphs before the Rosetta Stone was discovered.
      TLDR:
-The Torah, the first 5 books of the bible, was written in either 1220 BCE or 550 BCE, making the original scriptures either 3244 years old or 2546 years old based on what theory you subscribe to.
-The actual, finished bible was fully completed and compiled from 50 CE to 100 CE, making the finished work between 1970 years old to 1920 years old.
-Greek Mythology can potentially be older than the bible, with the earliest surviving records being Homer's Illiad and Odyssey which were written between 720 BCE and 680 BCE. This makes Greek Mythology at the earliest 2744 years old to 2704 years old. This makes Greek mythology in comparison to the Torah either 500 years younger or 178 years older. So they're pretty close.
-In terms of the completed Bible, Greek Mythology is around 775 years older.
-Norse mythology is significant younger than both, it's first recorded instance being in 1220 CE, which is over 1100 years after the bible was COMPLETED. 1220 CE was only 804 years ago while the Torah was written either 3244 years ago or 2546 years ago which first introduced the concept of "the tree of life." Therefore, the bible is the oldest record of the tree of life, especially when the concept was only added to Greek Mythology upon the addition of the Hercules myth which was mostly developed by the Romans.

Anecdotally: I am a PK [Preachers Kid] and When I was much younger, and struggling in school, having moved from Indiana [where my father had a church/ ministry] back to Georgia. It was a big change in school systems, where the focus of various disciplines was very different. I was behind in basic Math skills at the time due to the change. My parents answer was not that I had changed school systems, and having to adapt to that change. It wasnt to get me help with those changes... no... they decided that Prayer is what I needed... and when that didnt work... they didnt try outside scolastic help, or spend time with me to explain things in a different way... Demonic posession and devils must be the cause and of course I needed to have an Exorcism... Not ony did this do nothing to help, but was terribly traumatic. A terible experience that has stuck with me for nearly 40 years.

I had a female friend from school that was toying with Wicca. She let me borrow a guidebook or something because I was interested. I went home, read it, even tried to make a homemade wand to do my own spells. I went to church over the weekend because my grandmother always made us go on Sundays. I was so guilt ridden from just listening to the religious garbage that they were telling us that I went home and threw the book away in fear. My Cree ex's household would smudge any time there was a bad storm, and in my own personal life I would smudge to get rid of bad energies when im in a bad mood, or id also capture the smudge smoke of sage, sweet grass and cedar in my braid when while braiding my hair. Its common practice for native peoples to remain in a good mood and have good thoughts while braiding themselves or others(Usually family or loved ones) so they can keep those good vibes with them throughout their day because those good vibes/intentions are in their braid. (Each of the 3 braids representing Mind, Body, and Soul) and is the connection to the creator, longer the braid means the stronger the connection, sort of like an antenna lol. Hi Emma, Another lovely video, thank you! This one strikes close to home; I was brought up in a Jehovah's Witness family, who believed demons were very real and always looking for opportunities to break through the protection afforded by a Christian household. A common expression when I expressed an interest in any reading material, art, or toys deemed to be 'worldly' was "that will let the demons in!", and it was meant absolutely seriously. I eventually stopped believing this, as , in the immortal words of the Vampire Lestat, "You keep saying that and it keeps not happening.", but for several years as a very young child, I lived in real and daily fear of demonic attack!

His mother, my older sister (who's devoutly Catholic), was sure it was demonic activity as a result of the Ouija Board being in the house. However, one thing she has always failed to consider is that my nephew has severe Post Traumatic Stress due to sexual abuse he suffered as a child. And for which he has never been able to counseling. Also we live in rural area so any "foot steps" he heard outside could've just been an animal. Not quite related to the whole video, but you caught me with talking about smudging at the start. When my parents were going through a nasty divorce, my mother's friend (a "psychic" / spiritual consultant / general loonie) was asked to smudge the house by my mother, desperately trying anything.
Now, be me : Just turned 20, pretty agitated by life's goings-on at the time, playing video games by myself in my bedroom. This woman opens my door and walks in unannounced with a bowl of burning sage. I ask her, "....Wwwhat are you doing?" She replies, "I'm smudging your house to help get rid of any negative energy." I then informed her, "You're going to have a LOT of negative energy to get rid of if you don't leave my room RIGHT now." xD
It must've been a top 10 angry moment in my life lol, to the point that nearly 10 years after, I wouldn't allow the woman go to my mother's funeral for taking advantage of her during an emotionally difficult time.

Sage is one of the most popular herbs in dentistry, as it targets pain, inflammation, and bad breath, as well as exerts antibacterial and wound-healing properties.
Applied to the skin, sage has vulnerary (wound-healing), antimicrobial, and astringent properties that support the body's natural healing processes
Sage has been used forever, like cannabis (the devils lettuce) as media personalities need scapegoat excuses, they spread negative ideas (like coining a useful herb as demonic)
But basically same as the witchhunt but for useful natrual objects because their bible (or any of the other abrahamic religions texts) isnt good enough to describe any objects with accuracy, we dont know what a demon or malicious spirit or a spirit even existing looks like, but they expect their followers to blindly take their ideas on hearsay & fear of supposed supernatural entities noone has ever found solid proof on, its a last ditch attempt to make their religion "popular" by lying to the face of millions, being that its okay if everyone else does it

Emma, real serious warning about something you should not mess with. A friend of mine did this and it took her months to recover from it.
Do not skydive in the desert during summer! My friend had only done about a dozen jumps, but were all in cooler weather weather and she was not fully prepared for how much thinner the heated air was. Landed so hard it shattered both her legs, in casts for several months. That was over 20 years ago and she is still doing great after basically a complete recovery.

I don't actually use Ouija boards because I know the history of their invention (you are 100% correct that it was all marketing, specifically by men to exploit and mock female spiritualists) but the idea of serving guests tea on a Ouija board is absolutely hilarious to me.

As a indigenous woman i really don't like that they think that we're summoning demons like you said we're just trying to get rid of bad energy. And side note plenty of Christian natives still smuge and use the lords prayer

    • @alipennington3764

      Literally!!!
There's a lot of mi' kmaq people where I live and smudging is something that's done before and after so many ceremonies, and community/cultural events. I work for a school board cleaning and as a way to address that we're all on mi'kmaq territory and lands we have community leaders come in and talk and share information with us about the spiritual significance of smudging, the historical context and then usually give a demonstration as well as offer to smudge and bless us at least once or twice a year. It's just a reminder that we're technically on their land and to be respectful of the people and culture and religion that was here first.
How anyone could take an offer to be smudged as any thing other then a kindness, is wild to me.
And to call is demonic is even wilder, especially since indigenous spirituality has been around waaaaaaaaay longer then anything resembling the Christian faith.
