We are aware we missed things in the park, like Fata Morgana and the Flying Dutchman. When we mentioned Ravleijn was closed, we say we’d like to come back, so don’t worry. You may see them one day.
Ravelijn was removed because of a rule we created a few years ago of animals not being alowed to be used for entertainment anymore so yes it might come back but not in the way it was.
@@jay38869 That’s not entirely true. Yes the show has changed if you compare it to the beginning, but the same animals are used as before (horses, ravens and ibis birds). In my opinion I love the whole staging way better now than the empty sand box.
Momo being recognized as a magical fairy princess is not something I was expecting but is doesn’t surprise me. Some people just have the aura of a fae ^.^ and momo is ethereal.
It's kind of a shame that the Disney parks don't let adults dress up. I know they don't want visitors to be mistaken for the parks characters, but dressing up is really part of the magic.
@@roseagt5902 in the Efteling dressing up by adults isnt allowed either. But a few lovely fowers in your hair and so is ok. As long as you don't go fully dressed as a fairy and so on
I must admit it's a guilty pleasure of mine to watch non-dutch people going to te efteling and trying to pronounce names and being absolotely baffled, anyhow it's wonderful to see the positive reactions and unique details that catch your eyes, that even i, someone who has gone there multiple times, haven't noticed before, i hope you'll come back someday and get the experience of the flying dutchman that you were robbed of, also the jokes were hilarious, like, i spit out my drink
@@gerythebobrica7623 Not entirely correct. You need consent when you're actively filming (or photographing) someone and happen to be very recognizable in the shot, yes. However, in this video it's about a few people and their experience in Efteling. The people who happen to be in the shot don't need to give consent nor have to be blurred.
I’m a cast member at George and The Dragon (The wooden coaster) and stumbled across this video. And to be honest: People like you guys really make me miss my work in these times. We’ve been closed for over 100 days now due to lockdown. And like, some parts almost brought me to tears😂 I just love how you guys get along with the magic of the park! Something that makes our work as cast members even more fun than it already is. Me (and a lot of my co-workers) just love to make people smile. So to see that you guys had a good time makes me really happy. Thanks for visiting and making this (really well edited) video! You guys brightened up my day😊
Even though I've never been there myself, I've always looked up to the people that work there. It takes a lot to make people so overwhelmingly happy, And it's so nice that everyone creates a unique moment, Even if it happened a thousand times before.
Efteling is great, not the fan of what they are planning to do with the lil forest next to the hotel though. T_T but one benefit of covid was WAY less trafic in the region lol
THIS VIDEO IS SO CUTE! I started it like, "Sounds cool but there is no way I can sit through a full hour in one sitting about a magic theme park" but god damn that is exactly what I did. Half the fun is how much fun you guys have, this is the best.
@@MoMoOBrien Ahaha I think you are clearly the main character of life by how people at the park reacted, you don't even need props for also being the main character of a show :P
So, someone at Efteling must have watched this video. Not only did they retheme Monsieur Canibale but they added a new sign to the fountain preventing people from drinking and Villa Volta features a “stand clear off the doors” announcement in English.
there was nothing racist about this attraction at all, but in recent years there have been and are more and more of those whiners who want to ruin everything for others
@@willemthijssen1082It slaps until you translate the lyrics… Though the actual melody is still really great. And while this piece of French music was removed from the park, a certain other piece has recently returned. I hope to see these two experience Danse Macabre.

Momo while going into the maze "This is clearly not meant for adults" Me every time i go there i go in the maze as a fully grown 18 year old moron with my 190 cm friend who can almost look over the hedges
yep no exactly 😂 i remember going to the efteling for a school trip back around the time baron had just opened. so us 3 morons decided to just go in there because heck it.. then another good example was 2018 when i went to a zoo somewhere a bit further away.. they had this monkey garden area that had like these climbing areas for kids.. so of course the 3 idiots (me and my stepbrothers) decided to go into there and climb around 😂😂
We once got into the maze... Then the sky broke and before we got out, we were drenched to the bone. HAHAHAHA! We then went to the Piranha, which was momentarily closed due to the weather. But when we showed them we were completely drenched anyway, they opened it back up for us. It was hilarious.
My family and I went to a theme park a few years ago and one of my cousins was too short to go on a ride. My brother (+/-195cm) said that something like that would never happen to him.... The next ride we went on didn't allow people over 190cm because they were too tall🤣🤣🤣
TIL: The Efteling just announced they're gonna rebrand the Monsieur Cannibal attraction to a theme around the Sindbad stories. The attraction will re-open november 2021.
@@Jerrongamereview you're right sometimes the difference is hard. Because racism is experiencing it directly and hurtfull stereotypes are just racist. It is a small difference in letters but very important gramatically. But in all seriousness, the thing that's so bad about those karikatures is that it sets people apart. It reinforces the idea that black people are somehow less than or primitive. You know it isn't true, I know it isn't true but in the back of our mind you still associate the two. And I know dutch people like to think that there's barely any racism in this country because we're "so proggresive" but the only reason you don't see it much is because we just don't have that many people of color living here. Just think of how the average person talks about Turkish people... yikes. Lastly, I'm not saying that you can't mourn a part of your childhood being taken away. But the world changes and parks like the efteling have to go with that. And afterall, it is just an attraction and the new one will still be enjoyable, it will just look and sound a bit differently.
@@NaRuNiekje I don't think it reinforces the idea that black people are primitive at all. If that's the thing a person would take away from it I'd say that person was already racist to begin with. It's a caricature of an African cannibal (there still are cannibalistic tribes in Africa by the way), not a caricature of black people in general. It's just easy to link it to black face for Americans, which is a caricature of African people made racist because of the context in which the character is/was used, which I think is where the shock comes from. I have never before heard of anyone or any groups being offended by this attraction in the 24 years I've lived here, but I guess Efteling has been gaining more world wide recognition lately.
The story of vila volta is about the hounted house of the leader of a group of bandits (although I think pirates cool too). The curse can only be lifted when someone with a pure soul enters the house, and that is the reason he lets in so many people. He hopes one of the people who enter will be able to lift the curse. The ride is still on, so I guess neighter of you has a pure soul ;). I hope you like the background info. Bye
Oh thank you! That’s very cool. I also weirdly like that a ride has like...a message to tell you know? That “nobodies perfect”. Or maybe I’m just too emotionally attached to Villa Volta
@@MoMoOBrien we have a similar ride in Italy in Gardaland and is the main character ride, it's called "House of Prezzemolo" and to enter it you go inside a big tree in the middle of the kids land. It is my favourite ride, never thought that there weren't any similar in the States. Bye from Italy
@@MoMoOBrien I feel you, girl :] . It's one of my favorite rides in the whole park. Went there a lot as a child but this specific attraction somehow always stuck to me. Fun little fact: The legend Villa Volta was based on, actually took place in that region (Noord-Brabant/'North Brabant' and northern Belgium). Like @magical explained, 'Bokkenrijders' made a pact with the devil and flew through the air on goats to kill, pillage and stuff like that. The old man you see in the queue of the ride is named Hugo van den Loonsche Duinen(/Hugo of the Loonsche Duinen. Probably named after the nature reserve east from Efteling named Loonsche Dunes). He's supposed to be a former 'Bokkenrijder' but after looking for a place to spent the night, he found and pillaged a church. A young lady with fiery eyes warned him not to desecrate God's house. He ignored her, took all the gold he could find and rode off. When he arrived at his house the next day, he saw the lady standing on the roof of his house. (roughly translated,) She quoted: ''Nowhere in your own home, nor anywhere in the world, you shall ever find rest or peace, now you have desecrated God's house. Only when a loyal human with the pure mind of a newborn child will enter your house, you shall find peace.'' Hope it's a bit more understandable what this attraction is about, because it has such an interesting story :D Anyway, keep up the great work! Love watching your video's
@@MoMoOBrien The mechanics of this ride are also present on a ride at Alton Towers in England called Hex - The Legend of the Towers. I can fully recommend visiting if and when you come back to the UK. This video was amazing btw. I've been wanting to visit Efteling for ages.
the house isn't haunted! He is bc he stole from a empty church and a ghost followed him. The ghost cursed him of his stealing and will never stop haunting until someone with a pure heart steps into his house
Never would've imagined there'd ever be someone unfamiliar with the wolf and the seven little goats fairy tale. It's one of the more well-known ones here.
Me neither!!! I remember the story of the 7 goats so well, I had a beautiful little book that it was inside along with other fairytales, but sadly it burned in my housefire when i was still young. II guess it's not common in north america, maybe it's a little too scary. II've noticed some of the scarier fairytales don't tend to make it to the americas orrr they get sort of de-spookified first hehe
Knowing that Momo was using female pronouns at the time it hurts a little to recognize the pain on Az's face. I'm glad that they are getting into a better place emotionally, he's such a good person and I just want him to be happy. It shows how good a friend Momo is to edit in all his proper pronouns.
@Technical Support You don't care about those people who lost their lives. Your need to hijack a positive conversation about gender expression is sad, and pretending you're coming from some moral high ground makes it even more so. I'm not surprised though, because your original comment shows your lack of understanding about Marxism, gender and how not to be a jerkoff.
If you do come back, consider coming during Winter Efteling. It's in December/January only, and it's a whole different mood, totally decorated in a snowy style. Even more pretty, also, the lines are way shorter, so you can do the whole park in 1 day.
@@DX88 I also had it happen that some rollercoasters were closed! Due too the snow I think or well, in the beginning when I had that. The Flying Dutchman (De Vliegende Hollander) had a lot of trouble though.
@@HappyDiggers I think I have seen it open at some point during it, not sure. Might only have been because someone rented out the entire park that they opened it in the winter. Though, aside from that it used to have a lot of issues and be closed quite often, especially when it first opened.
Luckily, the Monsieur Cannibale ride has been re-opened last year with entirely different theming. It is now themed in the stories of 'Sindbad' and it matches with the coaster across; 'Vogel Rok'. The pots are now twisting ships and luckily the statue in the middle is now sindbad hanging on a ladder leading you on 'the wild sea' :)
As a dutch person who hasn't gone to the efteling in two years due to the covid situation, but has been going every year since he was little (and is now a 30 year old), this was an absolute delight to watch and made me realize how much I miss Efteling
I'm 30 as well and also still go to the Efteling each year! So many things that bring the joy of nostalgia and the wonder at new magic that has been built.. I miss it when I have to skip a year (or two) for whatever reason
I watched this video randomly when it first came out and I've been obsessed with Efteling ever since because of it. This is the best Efteling video. The Droomvlucht footage is incredible. Your friendship and sense of wonder, the careful study of racism and colonialism in theme parks, the queer joy, your description of the park as an 80's fantasy vibe... all partly contributed to me traveling solo from the UK to Efteling and having the most magical time (it also took three weeks because I literally went there by bicycle haha.)
at 10:00 the old woman says ''Shall i let it snow?'' (in case anybody wants to know) Also its from a fairytale Called ''Frau Holle'' and its about a girl who lives with her widowed mother and sister. She always works hard while her sister is lazy. (also apparently shes beautiful while her sister is ugly and her mother likes her sister beter) At one point shes starts working on a spool of wool when it gets coverd in her blood, she drops it in the well and to get it back jumps in as wel and gets transported to a garden with a house where an old woman lives who tell her that if she works for her she'll have a happy life with her. So being the workaholic she is, stays with the woman and does all of her chores and likes it(when she airs out the bedding it starts snowing on earth, hence the old womand asking ''Shall i let it snow?'') . But after a while the girl gets homesick and wants to go back to her mother and sister. The old woman opens a gate and as soon as the girl walks through she gets showerd by gold, and gets her spool of wol back, al cleaned up. When she gets home her mother and sister welcome her and when her mother hears about the old woman she sends her other daughter to the well to do the same thing (all because of the gold) but because the other sister is lazy, she doesnt do anything and in stead of gold she gets showerd in tar.
There are many different versions of this tale! in the one from rusia the old woman is baba yaga, there's one where the girl lost a bucket and she has to help magic objects in her journey, and stuff... I guess it was the metaphor for when girls got a job helping at an elder's house and were well behaved, hardworking and compensated
I love that fairy tale, there’s a few movies on UA-cam,, they’re in German( I think not sure) no subtitles but if you know the story you can easily follow it .
@@theramdomchannel8329 it wasn’t just because she worked at an elder’s house, it was just that the first sister, was kind and obedient and the second sister was lazy and selfish, the reward was for being virtuous.
@@theramdomchannel8329 Many stories have plots similair to this. Actually Frau Holle is based on a Germanic goddess. Goddess Holle goes with many names like Hulda or Frigg. She is a goddess of death, patroness of the spinners and weavers and queen of the goblins and fearies. She has also been called ''The White Lady'' or ''The Black Grandmother" She was the captain of the "Wild Hunt", between December 23 and January 5 she would check whether people were industrious or lazy that year. So that explains where the story of the two sisters and Frau Holle making it snow on earth came from.

When I'm trying to stave off melancholy, I come back to this video. The overwhelming love in every frame of it always manages to start improving my mood.
Oh to be a goat mom chilling in the forest with her basket. Also Azrai just SHOVING the blown kiss from the fairy down his sweater is the biggest mood. This video is literally a physical example of Fernweh.
The little special thanks you put to me and my mom is so sweet🥺 you were both so nice and it was truly an honor being your company and translator that day.💕
Oh gosh, I loved Efteling... There was this one pancake restaurant in the park, I've forgotten what it was called, but it was so cute! The whole restaurant was very thematic, it was such an experience. Thank you for your content Momo!
Its called Polles keuken!! I live in the netherlands and we go to the efteling every week! We hava a membership pass thing (idk what its called in english lol)
Dear ladies, thank you for your nice video. Monsieur Cannibale is no more. The ride is rethemed. It's new name is Sirocco. Unfortunately the haunted house Spookslot closed this week after 44 years. In 2024 a new haunted house will open and a themed area will open in the park. If you're still interested what you missed, De Efteling released a clear video last week about Het Spookslot.
The thing with Efteling is that attractions can be spooky and scary, but they’re not ‘jumpscary’. It’s more about creating an atmosphere that is unsettling, yet intriguing. But it’s not about jumpscares, gore, any of that. Spookslot then and Danse Macabre now are both meant to be unsettling, but also beautiful and enchanting. Especially with it being a ‘ghost opera’, as Tom van de Ven has described it.

4:40 whenever you compare the Efteling to Disney, remember that Walt Disney visited the Efteling to get ideas. Usually Efteling did it first; e.g. integrating the waiting line with the attraction was already done with Spookslot (ghost castle), the first attraction build outside of the fairy tale forest. In 1978...
Walt never visited the Efteling, it's an urban legend. Walt did visit the Dutch attraction Madurodam though and the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, wich provided him with inspiration for Disneyland
Yeah, Disney himself never went there. But famous imagineer Tony Baxter did! They even asked the Efteling for design tips for castles because they needed pointers on how to make believable castles in a country that has real ones.
This video means so much to me! I live in The Netherlands and Efteling is my favorite theme park... because of covid I haven't been able to visit it for a couple of months now. This video made me tear up several times because I miss the park so much! And seeing others enjoying it makes my heart warm. It's a shame Monsieur Cannibale ruined the experience a bit for you (it's awful I know...), but it truly is a wonderful park where a lot of people put their heart and soul in. I hope you guys can still see that
Loved the video. I was born close to the Efteling and went there very frequently so loved to see an outsiders perspective. Just an FYI: Monsieur Cannibale has been dismantled as well as the little maze next to it to make room for a new, Sinbad inspired ride which will still be a kind of teapot ride. Looking forward to you returning and seeing the parts of the park you missed.
For everyone who is disturbed by the racist caricature of monsieur cannibale, don't worry! Efteling just announced that they're going to re-theme the ride (and the whole surrounding area). It's supposed to be done this winter.
i’m so glad that you talked about the racist ride instead of avoiding it. spreading awareness is so helpful, thank you for that momo!! otherwise efteling is such a beautiful, magical place! i absolutely adore this video (and i miss your uploads so much)!! bravo momo!
I'm one of the kids that grew up with the Efteling. I love the park! I'm also in agreement that that ride is SUPER PROBLEMATIC. It needs to go or needs a thematic reskin. It's also not a isolated problem. There are a few parks in Europe that are quit old, with a lot of surviving rides that have similar problems. I once did a analysis of 2 rides with similar problems in the German Europa-park (I.E. this is where the thempark design lore for Az starts). They have some problematic rides that they won't remove because the park is basicaly the legacy/catalouge for the biggest design and build company for these rides that's owned by the family. One brother runs the park, the other the design company and neither of them has the stones to remove one of daddies rides.
@@thm540 In the case of europa park storing would be verry hard. Both problematic rides are big boatrides one of them being a darkride. You could keep some animatronics but that's about all you could preserve. It's also an interesting point you're making about history in this context as the theme of europa park is europe and it's history. The problematic rides are themed after the netherlands and the 'golden age'. The age we used to call golden because we got realy rich, but should be called golden because it deserves a gold medal for being the most problematic. So I reccon that people who want the rides to stay could have similar arguments as people who want to keep around confederate statues. The actual descision to keep it around is made by the family in this case, and i'm not sure if the larger debate has any influence on the matter (even though I think that it should be the deciding factor). The actual things that influence the descision right now are pride, and family hirarchy. The dad built what is now the largest ride designer company in the world. I'm sure you have been in one of their rides without even knowing it. And as basicaly a side buisness they have the biggest and most critically acclaimed themepark in europe. As you can imagine that's somthing you can't achieve without an iron will. So even though the dad has been dead for 10 years, and the daily management of the company has been shifted to his grandchildren. The whole family still decides, and they still honor the wishes of the iron willed originator of the park.
@@thm540 To put it in more international terms. Walt Disney wasn't the nicest man and in todays standards he would be problematic. Imagine if Disney was still a family owned company instead of shareholder owned. That's the situation in Europa park.
@@rotciv003 this is so true, I live in denmark and here we have a park with an almost identical in build and theme ride at Juros Sommerland, it's statue is more of a 'tiki face' and it has no song but it's still pretty awful and it's really inappropriate that it's been left up rather than reskinned a little or outright removed, to be honest the whole 'jungle' section of that park has issues and really needs fixing up and changeing rather than adding new rollercoasters to the farmyard section :\
Azrai is absolutely stunning. Your friendship(?) is so wholesome and you both deserve the world. If you see this, please tell them that i love their art and support them!
The little goats fairytale goes like this: Once upon a time, there was a mother goat with her 7 little goats. One day the mother had to do some shopping and told her little goats to open the door for nobody except her. The wolf clothed himself like the mother goat, warped his voice to sound like her and even dipped one of his paws in yeast to make it look like he was the mother goat. He ate 6 of the goats, the last one hid in the standing clock. When the mother came home she found the one goat that hid and together they went to find the wolf. The wolf was asleep under a tree and the mother goat cut open his belly and the 6 little goats came out of the belly alive and well. The goats then found some stones and put them in the belly of the wolf. The wolf went to drink at the well because he tought the goats were a bit of a heavy meal and fell into the well and drowned.
I know, right! That touched my heart. From now on I'm using that when asked what's special about Efteling: it makes you baseline a little happier for the rest of your life

This is what I expect when I go to Disneyland. With the expansion of Star Wars land and marvel campus, very little of Disneyland remains with the fairytale/fantasy element still there. This video was so entertaining.
For everyone who is intersted in the whole "monsieur cannibale" situation, today it has been announced that it's gonna be changed to "sinbad de zeeman" which is gonna be sea themed :D
Okay, I officially love you even more now. You both blend in with the aesthetics of the fairy tails. Also your pronunciation on the Dutch words are actually really good (I don't know if you actually speak Dutch or not) , I was really impressed if you that was your first time speaking Dutch 😊 About the villa volta house. It's actually a story about the buckriders of sorts, a story from Limburg/Brabant (Belgium) where bandits made a deal with devil and rode in the sky on goats to rob places. Villa Volta is the house of the leader of the goat riders and he tells that his house is cursed since he violated the house of God. Also kinda sad you didn't go on the flying Dutchman, vogelrock or Joris and the dragon (or maybe you just didn't show those or just don't like those rides) Anyway, loved the video 😁
It's so easy to take things for granted, but seeing someone from another country vissiting the park i've known for a while, it shines a whole new light on things. Thanks for taking this journey and making this video, from the bottom of my heart, a random Dutch Person on the internet.

@@andrewjenkins9965 You mean like all the other characters in the park? or do you think white people actually look like those hook-nosed witches and gnomes and trolls? They're all caricatures, why is that one specifcally bad? Is it because hes not handsome? Are the other white characters handsome? No, none of them are glrifications. Or is it because having a thing through the nose is a stereotype? But then again, there are tribes who actually do that... Why is it racist to display an actual cultural practice of certain people? Is it racist to display a nordic person with a viking helmet? Or an native american with a feather hat? Or is it because of the title of the character, a cannibal? But Africa does have the highest number of cannibal tribes through history, is that the bad part? Showing something less good about history? That brings us back to the vikings, is a viking with horns on his helmet and racist caricature of nordic people? The vikings did bad stuff and they didn't have horns, so it's an inaccurate depiction of a certain group who did something bad, it has all the haulmarks of a racist caricature. But we don't think of it that way, do we? Because vikings are badass, right? Well why isn't a cannibal with something in his nose badass? I'm sure the people who practice that tradition think it's badass, why don't you? Are you racist?
@@vergil8833 gnomes and trolls aren't white people. The stereotypical witch is based on Jewish stereotypes though. It's weird that you're focusing on this when the main aspect of my post was that I loved the video and think Efteling is awesome. Is everything okay?
@@andrewjenkins9965 Gnomes and trolls are not jewish stereotypes in the slightest... Fristly you're confusing gnomes with goblins, but secondly they're way older than the 19th century relation between hebrews and noses... These folklore creatures were initially venerated to some degree until christianization when they became demonizations of non-christian rural people. In other words, they represent "big dumb evil pagans" aka white people following their native traditions. And I'm not talking about Efteling at all, why do you think I care what you think about it?
Finally this park is getting more attention! I'm from the USA, but I've visited Efteling countless times since I was 5. My most cherished memories happened there. It feels completely magical and inmersive.
The park was made in the fifties, where they didn't expect to get such an international public, so not everything in the fairytaleforest is completely translated.
One year later I still come back every month to watch this video. I remember seeing this when it came out and for some reason it's one of my comfort videos to watch on UA-cam, especially because I love Efteling so much! 💗
Blood, sweat, and SO MANY tears went into this. Thank you. I’d like to get better at FILMING in the future, but find a way to not sacrifice documenting a genuine experience at the park.

It's really weird to me that they haven't changed it yet, but thank you for addressing it! Now I can be aware and start action to try and get it removed!
Yeah I also find it weird they haven’t changed it yet, maybe because a lot of people avoid it like us? Because kind of changed carnaval festival, so it’s weird that they haven’t been more aware of other rides.
I love these darker fairytales and folk stories, Because they're what I grew up with. The little mermaid didn't live happily ever after, Rumpelstiltskin didn't become a better person, The white ladies remain violent revenant ghosts of the witches they once were, And yes Cinderella's sister cut off parts of her feet. The brutal honesty of these tales Makes them so distinct and powerful, That you suddenly understand why adults were scared of ghost, fairies and love, These supernatural forces could not be controlled And could change everything for better, But also for worse.
I cannot watch all of this in one sitting because I will become dehydrated from crying. This is one of those videos that reminds me I'm not just going to implode after I turn 21, like, life will go on and I'll leave my parents house and i can still do the things I love to do and enjoy magic and fantasy like a child and I don't have to be a miserable adult... I'm very envious of you guys right now but this makes for excellent motivation to do well for myself now so I can go on the same adventure... 🍄💚
I have visited this park so many times in my life already, and everytime I go back it feels magical every single time. I love seeing people from outside of the Netherlands go here and absolutly enjoy it. I’m glad you had a great time!
Hey, it's so interesting to see people from outside the Netherlands react to Efteling and I'm really happy you guys enjoyed it! Also last year they removed Monsieur Cannibale and replaced it with a Sinbad themed ride which matches Vogel Rok story wise, the ride is called Sirocco and it looks great!
Beeing a big fan of Momo for years and beeing dutch makes me feel so happy that you visited the themepark of my childhood im very exited to watch how you expirienced it. :)
Its so nice to watch someone experience The Efteling for the first time! Like how the troll at the bottem of De Droomvlucht is meant to be a little jumoscare. Ive been going here my entire life so at this point i always know exactly when its coming, so to see someone experience all the magic and wonder for the first time?? Iy really warms my heart. Also! Too bad you couldnt go to the Fata Morgana! The soundtrack of that ride is incredible
I am on a "queeste" to find the full version....so far to no avail. The selection of a synth-pop song about humankinds desire for power and control but in a totally stripped down and soft version at the very moment Az goes into full fangi....potion seller mode has to be deliberate.
Love how much fun you guys were having in the fairy tale park. Most of the other Efteling videos I've seen focus mostly on the roller coasters, and don't really seem to pay much attention to the fairy tales.
The fact that you did the voice-over to correct the pronouns is sooo good! Also, if you go back to Europe after COVID, check out Europa-Park in Germany. It is such a fun park and tons of stuff to see.
Hahaha as a Dutchmen this was wonderful to watch. Also loved the cues to Monsieur Cannibale at the end haha. It is indeed quite bad, and luckily it's being rebranded as we speak. Thanks you two for reminding me of all my magical experiences at Efteling!
I’m literally going to watch this video like.. a million times. As someone who’s only ever been to Disneyland, (I’m from California) this place just brings me so much happiness.

There's a whole dutch meme about villa volta. At the end of the dramatic speech you hear another regular voice say "De deuren openen in uw richting", which means the doors open in your direction. It became meme material because it kinda ruins the mood.
as a dutch person its so funny to see and realise not everyone knows all these stories, I was raised with all of these stories and it makes me happy seeing other people exploring these. this entire park is my childhood
This was... wow. Idk how to describe it. Everything in this park (well. Not everything :| ) looks straight out of an old fantasy illustration. The little details like the animatronics everywhere, the tiny taxi, the magic water are silly and fun and... incredibly magical! Also seeing Az's reaction to this whole world that almost looked like it was made for them in mind made me tear up. I admire you both so much, and Az, if you're reading this, thank you for putting yourself out there and helping folks like me realize they also want to be a fantasy prince, or pirate, or wizard. Being trans is magical.
The drawings of whole the park are indeed beautiful! I would recommend to you to look up Anton Pieck, the artist and designer who had the honor of designing this park! He has absolutely beautiful drawings, together with his successor Ton van de Ven!
We are aware we missed things in the park, like Fata Morgana and the Flying Dutchman. When we mentioned Ravleijn was closed, we say we’d like to come back, so don’t worry. You may see them one day.
you have missed some very nice things indeed. But it sounds like that will be fine.
Fata Morgana is my favourite!
You should go during the winter efteling. The whole park is transformed into a winter wonder land.

Momo while going into the maze "This is clearly not meant for adults"
Me every time i go there i go in the maze as a fully grown 18 year old moron with my 190 cm friend who can almost look over the hedges
yep no exactly 😂 i remember going to the efteling for a school trip back around the time baron had just opened. so us 3 morons decided to just go in there because heck it.. then another good example was 2018 when i went to a zoo somewhere a bit further away.. they had this monkey garden area that had like these climbing areas for kids.. so of course the 3 idiots (me and my stepbrothers) decided to go into there and climb around 😂😂
Last time I went into the maze I got dirty water sprayed in my face because I’m too tall... for a child
Well, that's why there is a sign at the entance saying that it's only accessible to children op to 150cm...

Americans need to learn the difference between stereotyping and racism

Only when a loyal human with the pure mind of a newborn child will enter your house, you shall find peace.'' Hope it's a bit more understandable what this attraction is about, because it has such an interesting story :D

I watched this video randomly when it first came out and I've been obsessed with Efteling ever since because of it. This is the best Efteling video. The Droomvlucht footage is incredible. Your friendship and sense of wonder, the careful study of racism and colonialism in theme parks, the queer joy, your description of the park as an 80's fantasy vibe... all partly contributed to me traveling solo from the UK to Efteling and having the most magical time (it also took three weeks because I literally went there by bicycle haha.)
at 10:00 the old woman says ''Shall i let it snow?'' (in case anybody wants to know)
Also its from a fairytale Called ''Frau Holle'' and its about a girl who lives with her widowed mother and sister. She always works hard while her sister is lazy. (also apparently shes beautiful while her sister is ugly and her mother likes her sister beter)
At one point shes starts working on a spool of wool when it gets coverd in her blood, she drops it in the well and to get it back jumps in as wel and gets transported to a garden with a house where an old woman lives who tell her that if she works for her she'll have a happy life with her.
She was the captain of the "Wild Hunt", between December 23 and January 5 she would check whether people were industrious or lazy that year. So that explains where the story of the two sisters and Frau Holle making it snow on earth came from.

They even asked the Efteling for design tips for castles because they needed pointers on how to make believable castles in a country that has real ones.

i’m so glad that you talked about the racist ride instead of avoiding it. spreading awareness is so helpful, thank you for that momo!! otherwise efteling is such a beautiful, magical place! i absolutely adore this video (and i miss your uploads so much)!!
Really? As a black person, I never had a problem with Mr. Cannibale. I grew up with it as well. Used to be my favorite ride when I was younger.
I was definitely not prepared for "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" in this video.
I JUST PICKED UP ON "THE NEVERENDING STORY" PLEASE-

The little goats fairytale goes like this:
Once upon a time, there was a mother goat with her 7 little goats.
The child’s fairytale theme park being vaguely scary and menacing really tracks with Netherlands
Even after watching this a few times I still get emotional when they say: "I'm gonna be baseline a little bit happier for the rest of my life."
I know, right!
That touched my heart.
From now on I'm using that when asked what's special about Efteling: it makes you baseline a little happier for the rest of your life
I WILL be listening to the Mo Mo version of these songs for the rest of my life. Thank you, Mo Mo, they are wonderful!
They will be on Spotify soon!

I like the idea but I am gonna miss the monsieur canibale song
They did that because VogelRok is also based on sinbad de zeeman.
@@Lightningshattr ye, and they're gonna expand the whole of 'ruigrijk' right?
@@jasper24588 It's a really catchy song and the lyrics are funny, but... yeah, in this day and age I can imagine they'd change it.
It won't be long before someone complains about the racist depiction of Arabic people.
Okay, I officially love you even more now. You both blend in with the aesthetics of the fairy tails. Also your pronunciation on the Dutch words are actually really good (I don't know if you actually speak Dutch or not) , I was really impressed if you that was your first time speaking Dutch 😊
About the villa volta house.
Also kinda sad you didn't go on the flying Dutchman, vogelrock or Joris and the dragon (or maybe you just didn't show those or just don't like those rides)
Anyway, loved the video 😁
THE COVER OF EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD!!! THIS IS MAGICAL
It's so easy to take things for granted, but seeing someone from another country vissiting the park i've known for a while, it shines a whole new light on things.
Thanks for taking this journey and making this video, from the bottom of my heart, a random Dutch Person on the internet.

Oh no, a black character with a spoon in his nose, the horror...
@@vergil8833 *caricature
Your channel makes me want to indulge in LARPING and such when this pandemic's over or clears up better. Makes me comfortable watching your content
Finally this park is getting more attention! I'm from the USA, but I've visited Efteling countless times since I was 5. My most cherished memories happened there. It feels completely magical and inmersive.

My reaction to this vid: “ get me a freaking crown, I’m going to the Netherlands!”
😂🤣 I’m dead! Why did they have the “don’t drink the water in 2 languages?” Hahahahah
Because, you die only in one language :-)
The park was made in the fifties, where they didn't expect to get such an international public, so not everything in the fairytaleforest is completely translated.
In WHICH 2 languages ???? Ever thought about that question ? ... lol
One year later I still come back every month to watch this video. I remember seeing this when it came out and for some reason it's one of my comfort videos to watch on UA-cam, especially because I love Efteling so much! 💗

let the synth flow through you
Sorry, what is synth?
@@AuntBecky1 synth is a type of music, heavily used in 80’s fantasy or sci fi movies. Where it isn’t made with a particular instrument but sound all.. ethereal. It was used heavily for suspenseful scenes in tons of movies though became over used very quickly to most people in the industry so it’s not nearly as popular as it once was.

The Ravelijn show is one of my absolute favorite things about the park and it's a shame you missed it!! I can't wait to visit the park again myself, once everything is all back to normal again :)
I'm not gonna lie, I've always hated the Monsieur C ride so I haven't been in there since I was a little kid, and I had no idea that they still had those caricatures since I avoid the ride at every visit.
I love these darker fairytales and folk stories,
Because they're what I grew up with.
The little mermaid didn't live happily ever after,
Rumpelstiltskin didn't become a better person,
The white ladies remain violent revenant ghosts of the witches they once were,
And yes Cinderella's sister cut off parts of her feet.
The brutal honesty of these tales
Makes them so distinct and powerful,
That you suddenly understand why adults were scared of ghost, fairies and love,
These supernatural forces could not be controlled
And could change everything for better,
But also for worse.

Love how much fun you guys were having in the fairy tale park. Most of the other Efteling videos I've seen focus mostly on the roller coasters, and don't really seem to pay much attention to the fairy tales.

This was...
