This was so helpful! When you grabbed the fuse out of the parts car it really helped me understand where to look in relation to the steering wheel. It's a rat's nest under there; so hard to find!
Good video like it very helpful but I would just add check why fuse blew, by just replacing it new fuse may blow straight away if there is a short between that fuse and any point in wiring down to glow plugs or a short on any one of the glow plugs.
Regardless of fuse where it is, when you switched on ignition, the relay should have come on for a few seconds which is controlled by the EM module or engine computer , so you should have heard the relay magnitised and a click sound, so may be the ECU did not switch on because of the ambient temperature did not require glow plugs to come on
Thanks i didn't know there were fuses behind the relays. My problem seems to be with 109 but its not straight forward. As a temporary measure i linked the 109 relay terminals and the engine starts easily. So, 1. ordered 109 OEM used relay from breakers but engine won't start 2. ordered new aftermarket 109 relay engine still won't start 3. fit original relay with linked terminals and engine starts (although when running glowplug light comes on after 30 seconds) Forums have said there is a cable that can be worn over the engine, checked that and seems okay. Maybe possible issue is new relays are blowing when turning engine over. I'm going to have look for fuses behind the relays next thanks.
Great video. I think the fuse in the R 1..4 on the schematic drawing you had has gone. Three glow plugs are working just #1 is showing a fault, I've changed the glow plug and cleaned the connector. Where are the R1..4 fuses located? Thanks.
Changed my glow plug harness - the OEM ones are rubbish, break up and snap. Change the harness if replacement relay does not work. Harness is around 65 dollars.
Hello I have skoda oktavia 2009 , 1.9 d . And fuse number 16 in the motor room fuse box keep burning every one or 2 month. On skoda homepage it stand for voltage regaling for right head light and head back-light. Light in the capen dose not work when I open eny door . Light lamps keep on burning . Do you have eny idea what the problem is
My Audi 80 starts perfect in cold weather. Glow plugs come on, starts first time. In warm weather it is slow to start. Any idea what this might be? I had head gasket done already.
Hi there I have been watching your videos on VW with a great interest. I have a passat break 3B6 diesel 2002 and I love it. I have had her for 16 years now. She had 40000 km and 450000km. I did a lot of work on it and I love it. Lately she had a problem of trembling and troting . The whole engine is ratteling. The abs triangle light came out and it would never go away. I went to a garage and they put the VAG the code came out as 4. He said to me the elrctrical injector loom is dead. Start by changing that first. There are more problems with the code 4. To cut the long story short I did change the the fuel injector harnest this week but now the car would not start. The engine turns but it would not start. Before changing the harnest it was startting no problem. Have I forgotten to do some thing else when you change the harnest. I am totally lost would you kindly help me out in here. It is a relay 109, dissasemble the relay like in this video and try to fix the contacts inside, or change new relay!!!
