Honestly, I think I'd be pretty dissapointed if I got sent off to Siberia with this ration. Sure, there are a lot of calories, but it looks like a good portion of that is coming from stuff like the sugar and sweetened condensed milk. There doesn't seem to be anything really substantial in it aside from the meat and potatoes for dinner. I think I'd want lots of stodgy stuff which I could heat up. Dehydrated stews and stuff like that. Not to mention the fact that at -50 I'm guessing a lot of this stuff like the sweetened condensed milk and fruit bars would be frozen solid and it's not really in a form that you could easily thaw out over a fire or something. Same with the cheese spread - I don't imagine cheese spread that's been frozen and reheated would be particularly great, I'm pretty sure it would split. The dehydrated soup is a good idea, but why not throw a bunch of those in, at least one to go with every meal? Hot soup is exactly the kind of thing you'd want and they take up hardly any weight and space and cost next to nothing. I dunno, just seems like they made a lot of very odd choices for an arctic ration.

The oatmeal was nice, the beef and potatoes I actually still have in my bugout bag. I would have thought so too, the beans were quite hearty.

There's also some proteins and fat in the nuts. But yeah, that ration looks suspiciously tourist-y. Plenty of snacks in pretty packages, but little actual substance. Porridge might taste nice, but it won't keep you running for long in - 50 degrees.

Need a combination of high fat and high carb foods. The carbs for quick energy and fats for a longer duration of energy source. Soups are good if you can source water because in low temperatures you may dehydrate just as fast as in the desert, the cold temperatures will also tend to mask the dehydration setting in.

I agree. Very little thought went into this ration. I live in Los Angeles and I'm a big guy at 6'5 and I need a minimum of 5000 calories per day. In Arctic training I was eating 10,000 per day and still lost weight.

Couple of tips here. Google has a function for your phone (I believe if you download their translate app) that will translate selected foreign languages with your camera. Should help deciphering what's what.
The sweetened condensed milk is a good sugar and milk substitute in your coffee or tea. If you take it, crush a biscuit down to crumbs and add some of that hazelnut spread or cocoa powder, mix it up nice and then let it chill, you're likely to end up with a nice sweet fudge biscuit.

I've always recommended baked beans as a survival food. The cans last a long time, it's full of calories and protein, and has fiber. As a plus, baked beans can be eaten hot or cold, and tastes just fine either way. A can of Bushes baked beans is enough calories for a full day for an adult.
A dozen cans of baked beans, a half dozen cans of spam, and a case (24) cans of canned brown bread and you could survive quite a while with minimal to no upkeep or cooking required. You would have to supplement with fresh food or vitamin tablets for essential nutrients, but from a caloric and protein requirement, you'd be fine.

I'm sure it will also do for a good coffee whitener, but with the sweet condense milk there's not really much need for that.

Nutella in -50.. that definitely won't bend your spoon! The EVAP milk and ketchup will be a rock, the fruit bar will be hard as hell (breaking your teeth hard). Many of these items have a lot of water in them which will freeze and require heating to eat.
seems to consist of a lot of snack items not a whole lot of filling long lasting foods. Lots of sugar not much fat and proteins. whoever put this together must've assumed the consumer is staying indoors or a vehicle. Not outside in a bivy or tent.
14:23 they don't want you spending time on the pot, so they clog ya up. heh

I really enjoyed my vacation in Russia several years ago,, but distinctly remember the stingy paper products. Perhaps it was an anomaly,, but the food was good, the people were nice, the prices seemed ok,, but every time i bought takeout food,, id get this one lonely, flimsy napkin. It was almost as if Russians arent messy eaters,, or the paper products cost much more,, i dont know the answer. Very cool video! The vacation was wonderful, but id advise taking your own small packet of wet wipes.

Don't have any comment on the napkins or toilet paper, i finished up pretty quickly, so it wasn't an issue.

The sugar is to make up the calories, It is a crappy way to provide them in the modern era. If you look at the Emergency/ Iron rations
from WW II to the 1960's they are very high calorie and mainly sugar, some are even just basic sugar lumps...

not sure if you were being sarcastic through whole this video or not, but i thought tiny tin of beans, ketchup and couple of pouches of something you could call an actual food, isn't really sufficient for arctic conditions. In -50 c human burns calories many times faster than normally would, so this whole ration is completely insufficient nutritionally.

The sweet and condensed milk would be perfect in the coffee. Hell, add some nutella to the coffee as well. Wanted to add that you could crush up the biscuits and mix them with hot water and condensed milk to make a cake. Then mix up Nutella and condensed milk to put the icing on the cake. Would be delicious. Gotta get creative.

I’ve had more than one “irp” ~ “ирп” of different configurations. Not bad at all, but not easy to acquire. Impractical to assume that widespread distribution is possible, even in the best of circumstances, much less during,
“time of need”, conditions during active operations.

This winter ration is lacking in protein and fats, necessary foods in cold climates. There should have been several large metallic trays of meat entrees. The West German Einmannpackung MRE, also in a similar size box, would have been a far more suitable winter MRE. It comes with two, thick foil tray entrees and several packs of hard wheat biscuits.
