I have only been to church ONCE but I plan on going again, and I haven’t even been baptized yet but I plan on it! I love the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
It’s true! I’m new to the church only been to church once, but I am so excited to go back. I’ve never felt the Holy Ghost as much as at the LDS church!
“The more compassionate, faithful, and selfless our service and sacrifice are in Him, the more we may begin to fathom Jesus Christ’s atoning compassion and grace for us.” ♥️ Beautifully put by Elder Gong! That man is an apostle!
While the tag line sounds good, the reality of the church is something different. They speak of Jesus and God sometimes, but who they really want you to look toward is the church leaders. On your average Sunday, Jesus might be quoted maybe once, but the church leaders are quoted over and over again, with almost all talks and all class lessons being based on previous talks by the church leaders. Spend a few years in the church and you'll find that regardless of what they say in their promotional pieces, who the church really wants you to worship is the church leaders and the church itself.
I joined the church of Jesus Christ in 1970, and I can assure you that the name and words of Jesus Christ are continuously used in all meetings. The reality of the church is that Jesus Christ is its head and ALL mortal saints in the church knows and believe this. Your words do not have any truth in them. Please attend one of our meetings and open your heart and mind to the true messages of Christ even when it is said by one of his chosen servants.
I marvel at the apostles and the prophet who are the spokesperson for Jesus Christ, relaying his message to us all. Everything that comes from our church leaders testify of Jesus christ. Sacrament meetings may go off topic because of their experiences they share, but they always come back around to Jesus Christ, the centre. The members aren't perfect, but they try. The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is a church of praising Jesus christ and sharing their strength through him. Hence why it's called Jesus Christ and Latter-dat Saints. The mentions of church leaders' quotes are valid because they are like the leaders in the scriptures. (Nephi, Alma, Moroni etc & Joseph, Moses, Jacob etc) We study the General Conference talks as much as the scriptures because they are our living prophets today, like the ones in the scriptures. We do not worship them, but we learn from them because they are disciples of Jesus. And they quote so many scriptures and quotes of Jesus. In the end, we work together to know Jesus more in the gospel and in our person lives. Just like any other Christians, we go to our leaders for counsel and we study our scriptures.
God has always utilized prophets to lead his church and his people throughout the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. This is nothing new. And Jesus Christ is mentioned quite often throughout our meetings so I'm not sure what meeting you're talking about or where you attended or... maybe this is something you've been lied to about third hand. I know personally that I have tried many different religions, and many different churches, and this one has given me the most fulfillment spiritually of any that I've ever tried. I've come closer to Jesus Christ in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I'm not a spring chicken so I do know what I'm talking about. I hope you and everyone has a wonderful holiday and a merry Christmas because Jesus Christ is the reason for the season ❄️🎄🙏🏻🕊🌟🕯🫂
Hi @tomsanborn4156, thanks for your comment. Both scripture and modern-day prophets have helped us understand and institute the practice of proxy ordinances on behalf of our ancestors. The Church encourages that names submitted for proxy baptism be only for a patron's own deceased relatives as an offering of familial love. For you or others who are interested in learning more, the following link provides more information about our beliefs: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/topics/baptisms-for-the-dead?lang=eng#_
@ If that deceased relative was a devout Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian, or any other faith, it’s disrespectful to baptize them in the name of a different faith. Why is it necessary to belittle that person’s lifelong devotion to their chosen faith?

Baptism by proxy must end. It’s highly disrespectful.
