    Too comment on why your curls look different on both sides, your curl pattern can be different on every strand and it can vary ALOT.
    I'm a hairstylist, and the amount of times I've seen people have one side of the hair be curly and the rest straight, or vise versa, is actually a lot. It happens. Your curl pattern just differs from each side, happens! But your hair is beautiful!

    Amber maybe you should start using Shea moisture curl defined I have the same issue with the crown of my head that doesn't curl the same . Stop using gel on that area maybe the gel I'd too heavy for those loose curls , finger foils works for me try that to define that part and mostly try to avoid sleeping to much on that side. My hairdresser told me the side you sleep the most will be damage do o the pressure of your head. Hope it helps , you look great !!!!!

    It’s because you threw your hair over to the other side. That’s normal. It worked! Your hair looks gorgeous! Scrunching is a must with any kind of curl! Scrunch while it’s wet with product before blow drying and a defuser is a must! Also, if you have crunch afterwards, take a towel and scrunch your hair with it. It will reduce or completely take crunch away leaving you with a soft curl! Great job mama! 😍

    This is my trick, too! I have done it for years when my hair was shorter and long. I called it my "Hippie Trick" to cut hair in geometrically perfect layers! Well, I hold my hair up as far as I can at an angle towards my face, then add the elastics, and then....cut!!! Voila! Your hair looks gorgeous by the way.

    As for someone who has multiple textures, I would suggest scrunching the areas with the looser texture after you apply the gel. Obviously don't scrunch your tighter curls, but scrunch and finger coil the looser ones for more definition and less frizz. Love you girl!!

  • @amixeblu

    That is the exact method I use, only my hair is almost fingertip length, and my shortest layer is hip. The method is from the book, "Haircutting for dummies", actually. I have been cutting my hair like this for years. I would, however, not recommend this for hair shorter than waist or bra strap, if you don't want to end up looking like an 80s rocker dude. ;) This method has been going around YT for a while, but everyone *forgets* to quote where it originated from!!! I also commented on Lana's video, but she "ignored" me. ;)

    • @naturallytls7468

      Ok so my hair is bra strap length, I can do this right?

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 6 років тому +4

      Depends. Is it bra strap curly or stretched; if stretched, I would *not* recommend this or you will have super short layers. Don't say I didn't warn you. I did it once and gave myself bangs I cut it that short. If the ponytail reaches your chin, your shortest layer will be chin length stretched - so *be very careful with this method* - good luck! Other than that, I love this method for curls and wavy hair especially. It's very pretty on texture!

    • @naturallytls7468
      @naturallytls7468 6 років тому +4

      @@amixeblu ok thanks so much. I think I will wait until I grow some more. Because I just took out braids and cut 3 inches off so now I would be bra strap stretched, not curely. Have a great weekend.

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 6 років тому

    • @naturallytls7468
      @naturallytls7468 6 років тому +3

      @@amixeblu yeah it was a lot. But it was a mistake. I forgot that the braids I had in was just a little bit longer than my hair so I needed to just loose them out instead of cutting them out. It was rather foolish on my part or lazy. But as Amber said ' hair grows' so it will grow back. And besides that I'm always cutting my hair anyways.

    Good for you! This is actually a tried and true hair cutting technique that employs over-direction, which makes the layers perfect. It works best on long hair like yours. • @puggirl415
    @puggirl415 5 років тому

    Your cut turned out great! I really like the look of "disconnected strands" that shows off individual curls around the bottom. I would definitely try this. I like the curl by curl method also so I wonder if a combo of the two techniques might do more. I imagine putting my hair in that kind of ponytail, then cutting a few individual curls from the end of that pony. Then I think maybe sectioning the front from the back and cutting layers into the front section and then doing the pony again to take the length from the back and middle and make layers there. Not sure maybe three ponytails front, middle, and then all combined.
    I only get 2 haircuts per year now b/c I love my stylist but I'd rather get one good cut and then try and keep it until next years good cut. Seems like we are all flying blind but someday I want to be able to trim my own hair.

    I've done this to my straight hair and it worked. I couldn't just chop and leave it at that because with my straight hair the bluntness was way too apparent so I'd spend a couple days afterwards blending them out. I realized after a while that layers don't look good on me because my hair is thin, so I did everything I could to get rid of them.. even getting it chopped down to a pixie and growing it back out. Now I'm finally rid of those layers. Never again.

    You are brave and you did a great job!! I have the same fear as you do. I have so many different textures and some parts are almost totally straight so I dont even wear wash and go's, but you have inspired me to give this a shot. Great video!

    I think the different texture is to do with either it’s thicker there or more exposed to the sun.
