Sarah Lancashire is one of my favorite actresses. I am so she will now be known by more Americans through Julia. I hope she is nominated for an Emmy for this role.

In possibly the first time ever, someone is better than Meryl Streep. Sarah Lancashire is nearly perfect as Julia. The voice, the physicality, the awkwardness, the humor.
Patricia Hodge was better than Meryl at playing Thatcher, too.
She is one of the UKs best actresses. Started in a long running soap opera but she is so good when she left the station wanted to tie her into a golden handcuff deal.
I love Meryl, but Sarah is much better portraying Julia.
Oh so many are better than Streep. They lack the same opportunities that she had, and the PR. She was Weinstein's right hand.

What I like the most about the show, is that it picks up where the movie ended. When we encounter Julia, she is already a published author. We see so many times the same story being told over and over. Not in this case. Both film and tv show co-exist and complement each other.
Yes! That was my first reaction when watching the first episode! I loved Julie and Julia, and I thought this show would basically be a redux of that version of Julia, starting at Le Cordon Bleu, etc. I'm so pleased it's not. It feels like a natural continuation of her story!

Love 'Happy Valley', cannot wait for season 3 to air, though it looks as though we will have to subscribe to AMC+ to watch it.
I grew up watching Public Television shows like "The French Chef", so when I learned about this HBO Max series I had to take a look. In the end I binged the first 4 episodes this past Tuesday, then waited semi-patiently for the 5th to premiere. Sarah Lancashire is amazing - as the phrase goes she embodies the role; I also like her chemistry with David Hyde Pierce as Paul Childs. This show definitely deserves as many awards as they can get - Sarah Lancashire for a Best Actress Emmy!

I cannot properly describe how very deeply I have become enthralled and enchanted with this series. Sarah Lancashire IS Julia Child in this production. I have laughed, and cried, and clapped, and cheered, and laughed again. Mostly, the makers of this series have taken me on a most precious voyage of nostalgia, and given back to me the memory of how much I loved this woman. Thank you so very much.

Watched the first four episodes of this last night. MARVELOUS performance by Sarah Lancashire. In fact, everyone in the cast and production have done a tremendous job. They've created a wonderfully gentle, sensitive homage to the late Julia Child. Well-worth watching!
Sarah looks so unrecognisable under the wig and makeup. Kudos to her, and the hair and makeup department.

Lancashire is absolutely stunning in this role. Probably the first time Child has been played as a whole actual person rather than a caricature. And the bits with Judith Jones and James Beard are so delicious.

It’s fascinating just how good she is. As a fan of both women (and the actual Julia Child), I knew Sarah would do a great job, but Meryl Streep is just the best actor to have ever graced our screens and I was certain Sarah’s performance would be good, but would fall short of Ms. Streep. I was happily wrong. Sarah’s performance is equally good, if not a touch better, as she is doing it for longer and not sharing screen time with another actor. What a delightful cast as well. Four episodes in and I’m loving it!
Exactly. My reaction during the first seconds of the series was: Why bother casting anybody after Meryl Streep's Julia? But from then on, I was mesmerized by Sarah's performance. And I find it much better, much more mature and subtle than Meryl Streep's.

I used to watch Julia Child on TV when I was little, and Sarah has indeed captured her essence with her performance on this show. Watching the first few episodes put me in such a good mood, as if Julia's love of life were infectious and being channeled through Sarah. And the series has me cooking up a storm! It's marvelous.

Wow what a transformation. Anyone who watched Sarah play Raquel on Coronation St. back in the 90's and now sees this, will truly appreciate what a fabulous actress she is. She does so many characters so well.

I've seen Sarah in many roles and this, by far, is her best performance!
For those of you that loved her as Raquel in Coronation Street did you know that she appeared in CS prior to becoming Raquel where she played the charcter of Wendy Farmer who was going to be a prospective lodger at Jack and Vera's.
I really appreciated how the first episode actually includes her struggle with menopause. She is in mid-life but still is charming, relevant and important. Most of Hollywood says a woman is “done” after 40. Julia was just getting started.
Plus her doctor sid it’s the menopause but offered nothing.

I am old enough to remember Julia Child's beginnings and because I love cooking enjoyed her parlaying food even with other greats in the business.I adore Sarah Lancashire in so many films and this unequivocally is her finest moment. My own husband was enchanted with this series and the delight of Sarah capturing the sweet sing song tones of Julia was mesmerizing. I give kudos to the scriptwriters because even the slightest sweet moments captured were memorable. Brava Sarah!

Sarah Lancaster is absolutely spectacular in this role, although admittedly it is not the first time that she has proved herself to be a truly great actress. This role has Emmy/Golden Globe etc written all over it. Helps that she gets to play such an immensely likeable character. Another great show by HBO.

I was ENTHRALLED with with her performance. I loved Streep's version too, but this woman WAS Julia. A "delicious" performance for the ages. This is greatness.
I try and watch anything that Sarah is in, she's such a great actress and a joy to watch. My favourite scenes of all time are several between her and Anne Reid in Last Tango in Halifax. They are both so incredibly talented and those characters are fabulous.
Oh my goodness, I remember Sarah as the dizzy barmaid Raquel in Coronation Street back in the 1980s. I've lived in the States for the last 27 years so I haven't really seen her in anything. I had no idea she was portraying Julia Child. What a range of talent! Can't wait to see it.

I absolutely adore Julia & have since I saw her as a child. I credit her partially for helping me have a long & happy marriage for more reasons than helping me learn to cook. She was an all around inspirational lady, a true one of a kind!

I've watched the first two episodes and only now did I realize that Julia is played by the wonderful Sarah Lancashire! I didn't actually know her name but know her from Happy Valley/Last Tango, Doctor Who, and the few snippets of Coronation Street that I've seen. Usually I see a British actor and know I know them from a show (or seven and one is usually Doctor Who, lol)... but I never once even got a glimmer of her... she was this version of Julia Child from the start for me. I just assumed when I saw her as a lefty here, that the real Julia was also left-handed. Loving the show so far!

Raquel is an iconic character in Britain’s longest and most successful “soap”; however, Lancashire’s performances as Raquel were brilliant. Lancashire brought a tragic and comedic character to life. Quite brilliant.

I remember the first time I saw Julia Child on TV, and her opening line was, "Welcome to my old-fashioned chicken dinner". This line became a maxim for my wife and myself every time we had chicken for dinner!!
I watched the full season, and did not get that she was the lead in Happy valley. OMFG. Wow. Amazing
I am gutted the series has been cancelled after 2 sessions it was brilliant I didn't real know anything about Julia other than she was a chef but Sarah really brought her to life 😢

This series is so good and addictive. I find myself upset that I have to wait for more once the first 8 episodes are over.
I grew up watching Julia child with my grandmother after school and sometimes before school depending on which PBS station we could pick up.
Its like watching my grans best friend on TV. Its heartwarming and heart wrenching to see what she had to go through on her journey to being such a great, around the world personality.
I still google and watch reruns of her when I need to learn or wish to learn a new recipe.
I cant wait for more.
My husband and I absolutely loved both series - Sarah's acting is impeccable and irresistible but also the other actors are such strong characters too and the dialogue so well written, this was television at its absolute best. So sorry there won't be another series. I guess I'll need to watch the original Julia!
