I got my love for gardening from my grandparents who raised me. But as a kid, I certainly would have wanted to do anything else, but pick and snap beans. I'd complain and my grandpa would tell me, "when the snow blows up to the window sills, you'll be thankful for those beans". Wise worlds to me now as an adult. I'll always grow beans.
Brings back memories of decades ago. My hands and fingers would get raw and painful spreading dewanner out of a bucket and stirring it around filling fertilizer spreaders. Besides using attached implements to spread fertilizer, had converted over walk behind "dewanner knockers" to pull behind a tractor to fertilize our big ol gardens after drawing rows . I love that Cub tractor, never owned one. My farmall small agg tractor experiences was a Farmall A, Similar attachment systems as your Cub. But for big fields I used three point drawn implements. Loved planting with Cole and Covington planters.. They were easy to adjust and "set it and forget it" Listen, I really enjoy ya'lls videos. Hopefully they will teach and pass some forgotten knowledge on to a younger generation(Lord knows they need help) Keep up the good work and God Bless y'all.
Danny my husband and I farmed 1972-86. We had a farmall to turn our customers hay into rows to bale up. We had an old swather that had no cab and had 2 handel s to push right or left. Pull back to turn and push foward. Old machinery work best. Planted our garden just like you. Took string and short rebar and planted first flat. Then pulled dirt up into shallow rows. Could eye row crop when sprouted. To this day I have my great grandmother's cloth bonnet that I put on to shade my head with when gardening or outside work. Never could stand itching of straw hats. Bonnet or a bandana. Have a push style 1 row wheel plow for making deeper rows for watering garden. Use old to remember what came before me. I'm 69 blessings
Hey Danny, here’s just a suggestion on your home made bean planter. On the bottom of pvc pipe you could insert a small funnel upside in there , it may prevent dirt from clogging up into the pipe when moving to each seed drop. Just trying to help. Many Thanks with Blessings. Enjoy watching your videos over and over. 🙏❤️
I have been so fortunate for all my life to have been able to get un sprayed hay. I have been where I am 18 years and my garden spots near the house are so rich from goat, chicken and rabbit manure.
And I love that half-caffeine mix Maxwell House… Mr Hollis gives you full credit on this genius seeder.😊 Greetings from zone 8b, north of Lake Pontchartrain. I got very bad knees and lousy shoulders, but finally this year I’ve got a start on a “garden.” Planted some bad smallish russets that got green skin (old Wallyworld stock) about a month ago! Surprise! They’re growing! I’m trying some garlic too. I’m gonna try raising red wigglers ( yuck! ) for compost & sales. Wish me luck. Times are bad and likely to get worse. Prayers to all. 🙏🏻
Good morning Mr Danny and Miss Wanda. Love hearing you talk about your Daddy, Mr Danny. Reminds me of my Granddad when you tell stories about your days growing up. I got to spend precious little time with him but he was a lot like your Dad Waiting on a little daylight before we get back to stretching fence….yes, I’m STILL doing that….probably be at it till mid summer 🤦♀️ I was lucky to find a hay grower last year that also does not spray…so thankful for him…he’s a bit of a haul away but I’m happy to drive and haul the hay from his farm. I well remember your Grazon debacle….I immediately started checking with all my hay folks, fortunately most of them don’t use spray for their hay fields but there are a few who are located close enough to commercial farm land that I was concerned. Blessed to have found a good local source. Blessings from the river swamp ❤
Since moving here, zone 8a, I've never even thought about planting our snap beans this early. The almost guaranteed frost, and potential freeze chance, up through early May, seemed like a bad idea. Except this is when any pods that got away from us sprout. I should yank some of those up and plop them somewhere not in the way. See how they do through this spring. What I want is a manual carrot/tiny seed seeder. So far, the brainstorm idea is a 15 by 30 inch piece of lightweight acrylic or resin. Some sort of affixed, standing height handles to lift it along the bed, to new sections, with molding trim on the edges to prevent accidental seed lose. Drill small 3 inch spaced holes, marked with vivid paint, and drop those tiny seeds down the smallest diameter pipe length I have. If it's 3 inch spacing, then drop a seed, no no no no, drop a seed, for the 12 inch spaced brassicas and similar. The tricky part would be stabilizing the pipe, rubber gasket or something at the base? Prevent fatigue bump misses. It's possible I could skip all the other stuff except the thin pipe, add a 3 inch corner, and just go from there. One row at a time. lol Hope that the seed somehow makes it all the way.
Good Morning. I'm re-watching this video this morning and I assume that you've already by now gotten all the plates you need. The man I bought one of my planters (a POAX Single Seed Hopper) from told me he used the Peanut Plate to plant beans. It's about a quarter inch thick and I just used it yesterday for Green Beans. It seemed to work fine. Also another old Cub Farmer friend made lots of his plates out plexiglass with a drill and a jig saw and he showed me plates he had used for years, customized to his preference.
I converted my Cub to 12volt using the one wire system. NAPA 4011 alternator if I remember correctly. An adaptor is available. Made it easy. The wiring was the trickiest part for me but worked out well. The 6volt starter works well enough but will get warm if you crank long and hard. Mine usually pops off first crank. Have used my PVC seed planter which is almost identical to yours for years. I used 1 inch pvc which makes it easier to drop in the seed. Good luck with any future Cub projects and be sure to video it so I can learn something new. Not new to gardening but relatively new to Cubs. Thanks for everything!
Thank you both. My daddy was a pulp wooder and a farmer in Alabama when we were all growing up. I was too young to help much back then, but it brings back memories.
I know you've probably heard it but man that is one fine tractor!@ Praise the lord for the parts!@ I got a feeling this might be a good year for growing.
Good morning you 2, gonna be a nice day here in VA. I’m also zone 8 am a home gardener and so glad your planting yellow wax beans, I’m doing some too along with potatoes and snap peas today. 😊. I love watching your channel so much, brings back such good memories of watching my parents garden, they taught me everything I know and I’m in my 70’s, so Thank you!
@@rebeccah2438 hi, there, yep, I’m in 8a too and growing a few beans in my garden and my snap peas are in there too, got potatoes in 30 gal grow bags, gonna cover them all up as I watch the temps. Thank you for sharing. I remember the smell of the soil. Getting up of morning planting garden. Now I just have container garden but thank the Lord for that. Love to watch you but we still have 2 months before we plant
Great video as always 😊 I bought a bag of beans from the store and it is called 15 bean soup. I made a video of it because I saved some seeds and planted them yesterday. I hope they germinate. Looking forward to seeing your next update on the beans and tractor. Have a blessed day and happy gardening 🌿🌱😊🤗
I'm 6 foot tall and can't hardly fit on my IH Cub, i sure feel for ya brother trying to squeeze your tall frame in that cramped space....lol. God bless you for keeping at it.
I'm new to gardening and want to plant so bad but was scared if I did it would get cold again and kill whatever I plant so I'm waiting a couple of weeks
My family used two of them like yours to cultivate between the tobacco rows I believe both of them have the fertilizer hoppers on them they made life a lot easier!
That Cub….why did I notice that is a work of art! ❤ Then Danny goes and dresses in the blues and reds to match…👍🏻 Miss Wanda, wonderful filming skills! Thank you!
I love how you start each video with the early morning on the farm. As for doing things the old way, that worked for generations. I love the Farmall, especially the paint job. It looks beautiful.
Looks like a beautiful day down there. I’m in Missouri and today we are 72 degrees and sunny for us. After Tuesday headed back doe to highs in upper 40’s. I’m getting excited to get my garden going again. Pray all the seeds you planted come up and you have a great harvest.
Mary Beth Ham, it sounds like we live in the same general area. If you garden, I hope that your property doesn’t grow rocks like mine 😊, I have to grow in tubs.
Live in North east South Dakota. Lot of cattle and crops. Spray Grazon on the pastures for weeds. Then cattle go to market and we eat the beef. Heard of this before new a party this happened to using cattle manure.
Enjoyed the video , wish I could get started but ground still wet and cold , Our Last frost date Is April 15 in east central Alabama , You planting with cub stirred me to get planting , Have good day
Love this type of content, it's educational. A Fast way to get rid of chemicals and heavy metals in the soil is to plant Sunflowers. They are the best at that and fast as well. Added bonus is you get massive yields of Sunflower seeds for animal feed especially chickens. Keep up the good work 🙏
Nice video and was a pleasure seeing the little cub gardening. Me and my dad farm our three acre spot. Now I just do the hay crop on the farm. We had updated to a little yellow cub and a cole planter. Deer got used to eating up our garden later Many memories with the little cub’s
Love watching the Cub work. My 13 year old grandson was just given a Cub with lots of attachments. We are going to have him put it to work to extend our garden this year in areas where our big Ford is just to big to get into. Can't wait. Happy Farming with your Cub.
Old dog new tricks. I came up in the city. No one to teach me anything about gardening so I have had to copy other's methods and years of hit and miss experiences. Now I can attend YT University and learn lots of new skills. Tried your method of starting sweet potato slips this year. Planted the potatoes last week and because of all the rain we have had, I decided to pull one up to check it for rot. One week and it already has roots growing out of it. Hasn't broke the surface but wow! Have to pull all my seedlings inside due to colder weather coming but have heat mats and grow lights at the ready. Thank you!
I love my Int'l Farmall Cub also, but I converted it to the 12v system. It got just too expensive to buy the 6v batteries. I have done this to all of my tractors, and I only have to keep 12v batteries if I want to use a battery for more than one tractor.

Good morning Ms Wanda and Mr Danny. It's always good to start my Mondays with your video. Hopefully those poor lil calves get used to being away from their mommas. 🐄🐄🐄 Thanks for the reminder to plant our yellow wax beans now.
I can’t wait to plant my beans. The hard part is waiting lol. My planting time is April 1-5 based on my zone and the moon. Thank you for sharing your bean planting with us and I do believe that this will hold me over until I can plant 😊
Good Morning Danny, a cheap inexpensive funnel would be cut the neck off a plastic soda bottle and screw down into the PVC pipe. You could use either a 1/2, 1 or 2 liter bottle. As my Grandpa said "Waste Not Want Not". I hope you have a great day.
I added electronic ignition too and I don't even use a starter anymore. Just crank start it. Also, added a gas valve and let the tractor run dry when shutting off...no more carb problems either.
Danny I would love to see u make a video explaining all the different tractor implements and what their purpose is. Ex. Rotor tiller does plow does… many people do not know the difference. Have a blessed day!
Always like to see Farmalls in their work clothes. We have similar sandy loam soil here, but we are surrounded by red clay. I have some sweet corn that's been handed down to me. My great grandmother was planting at least back in the 40s as far as my grandpa can remember. I'll try and send y'all some if y'all would like some.
I've rebuilt many of those 6 volt tractors. The secret is the cable size andthe ground connection. Cables need to be O (otto or double ott) and the starter gets its ground path from the mounting surface. So make sure that's clean. Hope that helps. Oh and by the way. My latest cub wouldnt charge the battery and I found out the amp guage was bad
Danny , this is looking great, I need to watch and hear instructions on planting, tilling, etcetera. My Cub is asleep right now, but I have tilled and used a plow to push up some rows. One thing you lack, and if you can arrange transportation, I can send you lots of small and medium sized rocks. Hundreds of them, if you want. I have enough to make contours on my hillside and have wheelbarrows of them left over. They are even on the floor in my high tunnel. Too bad they aren't edible. Seriously, thank you so much for keeping on.
All thou long time ago my brothers was in f.f.a got some dasies bush beans they got about 8 ins long they were loaded got 4 pickings off them canned over 100 quarts off of them
Thank you so much friends for helping Mr. Danny. Love his lines now. Beautiful. I get gitty hearing the excitement in his voice. God bless all the community members. Love you Mr.Danny and Miss Wanda❤️
Thanks for explaining about hay contamination and how fertilizer works. I don't have machine but I can use the last part of the video information. Nice explanation about the hand made seed tool.
I hope you haven't lost the wonderful sounds of the morning! You can hear birds singing their praises to the Lord all through the video. I miss hearing all the birds in wintertime living in Ohio!
That cub is amazing! We did see the one Hollis made. I'm going to make one as well, it's getting more difficult for me to bend over. I'm a Army Green Beret Vet and you can see the scars on my arm I'm feeling it as I get older. We love watching yawl plant. We are thinking about moving on 10 acres 3 hours away from where we are. Thanks for sharing, God Bless.
Great video! It has me wanting to go start planting but we have to wait a few weeks. last year I tried planting a few rows of bush beans with the planter on the cub and it worked beautifully. I used the large corn plate, size and feeding was great but spacing could have been a little tighter. I really think you are going to love that planter/side dresser set up. It's so nice to make your row plant and fertilize in one pass.
Amen! Our babysitter made us snap beans, shuck corn, shell pecans, etc. Our reward was the pool. How I would give anything for those days again.
I would love to go to my grannies house to shell peas and shuck corn today…I miss them so bad

Good Morning! Thank you for the video! was learning for me! and fun to watch the farmall Have a good week!
I added electronic ignition too and I don't even use a starter anymore. Just crank start it. Also, added a gas valve and let the tractor run dry when shutting off...no more carb problems either.
I have the gas valve to.
Danny I would love to see u make a video explaining all the different tractor implements and what their purpose is. Ex. Rotor tiller does plow does… many people do not know the difference. Have a blessed day!
I will see about doing it.
Thank you, Danny and Wanda. I love your content, and those opening camera shots were wonderful.
May God continue to bless you.
My gauge shows charging only when I turn the lights on. Plus it took weeks to get a battery in from being ordered. Nobody around here carries them.
Okay I'm going to have to make one of those! I have all of the parts.... 😆
Still love that Farmall Cub 👍.
Fine job Danny . You are more than welcome.
I love that you are teaching us what you do. Fertilizer is always my biggest concern.
Morning y’all
Morning
Dannie: I sold my Farmall cub three years ago and I am sorry that I did, although I did buy a JD compact which does come in very handy for my needs.
You are planting! We have cold temperatures and a bit of snow everyday!😫
What a fun way to garden. The older models of tractors are the best, there the real deal.
I always lean so much watching your videos.
Your land is so beautiful
I really like that planter. I just might have to make one for my son. He has a bad back. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
So true!
T M tractor in windham maine. Thats where i got alot of cub parts. I hope it helps you. God bless
