Zangief had to be the only character that after a few body slams and won matches, you cant help but repeat everything he says to your opponent. it's just so much fun!!!
As a Gief main since SF4, I love this. It makes Wiff punishing so much more viable. Before it you'd have to rely heavily on hard reads and wiff punishing into spd or super was generally avoided unless you had godly reactions and execution.
I don't even Play this Game, as my Computer Sucks, but damn. I do like this "Modern Controls" that just popped up on my Recommendations. Soo many Fighting Games I play [Not a Lot] have some very Difficulty Control & Mechanics that take a while to get used to... In fact, sometimes, *I even use an Macro on Autohotkey just to do an Specific Move, such as an "Command Grab" or "Super" early on to be able to Enjoy the Character Fully*[I don't have that Much Time to be Playing and Mastering an Game]. Being able to Play the Game without Messing your Inputs Half of the Time while you are a Beginner would make an Huge Difference for me. If my Computer could Run this Game, I would really Consider Playing it now, as a Big Reason I totally avoid Street Fighter Games is because they kind of seems to be too Hard to Join in and get used to the "Seemingly" Difficulty Inputs😭
I fought a Modern Gief in my first week playing the game. It was the most terrifying experience I've ever had in a fighting game. It was like suddenly switching to survival horror.
If i ever encounter a modern Gief i would just give up and let him spd me to death. Then block the modern Gief player. Im not good enough to deal with this craziness.😅
I think what I love most about this is that you lose so many of Gief's options by playing in Modern....but you *gain* Fear Factor, which is almost worth every lost normal and combo option.
This was so damn funny and entertaining! Historically I really only play MK, but I've been branching out into other fighting games, and this game has just taken me away. Been loving the content man, great video!
This was probably one of my favorite videos you have released recently, honestly felt like you were reacting more fluently with this modern control zangief then you do with Chun. Feel like you could make a series from bronze to master off of this idea alone because of all of the opportunities for good clips and edits in this kind of gameplay. Modern Gief is certainly good but if you're interested, don't be too afraid of trying Classic Gief. This game is PRETTY GENEROUS with the SPD input. You can only do a half circle and then inmediately up and it'll count. If you want to do the Lvl 3 after a DI you have more than enough time to input this two times and land it amazingly.
You'd be surprised, there's a lot of ways to buffer the 720. Dashing, his forward knee move, his head butt, drive rush, empty jumping, I've even seen a dude get me by baiting parry and inputting 720 during the negative frames. Only thing stopping you from playing zangief is patience, you need a lot of patience.
@@nicholaskline7976 I think the main difference here is that in Modern, you don't have to do *any* of that for inputting 720 for the lvl 3. When you play against a Classic Zangief there are certain tells where you know whether he can do lvl 3 or not, but in Modern, Zangief can basically do it any time even while just standing, making it quite a lot stronger for reacting / footsies. And if you need the extra damage you can still do 720 / 360 for situations like punishing after DI.

Modern is the reason i bought and enjoyed the game. I gladly accept the 20 percent damage penalty for feeling like I can play the game. Would have loved to see fair Justin could get on modern Gief.
They should do that. Should be modified more so that it doesn't seem like it's just an easy style, that it brings a different set of arsenals and weaknesses. Kinda like an Ism.
Me, I'm not a FG player, so Modern would be a great way to play the game. Also the motion inputs are kinda hard for me to do and as age keeps creeping in, they would be even hard in the future. I really hope that "Modern Controls" are here to stay.

Getting up close and personal with a Classic Zangief isn't too bad as long as you don't over do it. But why in the world would anybody want to take those risks with a Modern Zangief? They clearly were looking for a deathwish and they got it 😂
Modern Controls present some annoying issues. It allows a few things that classic controls can't do, and it allows characters to have a super ready without the telltale movement that happens when they're buffering it.

Things like 1 button access to supers, which are powerful with extra effects like invincibility, extreme damage when unscaled, especially with how easy super bar is to fill, is broken in a vacuum. The question is whether or not it is good enough to offset the downsides, which for now appears to be the case.

Remember that it is simply a different playing style because the buttons are laid out differently. Once people figure this out, it will no longer be broken. The game is barely a month old at this point. Let’s see if you will still think this way two years into the game’s life cycle.

Remember folks, its not modern controls being the problem like a lot of people making it out to be, Justin is just that good at reacting to these things in the game. and sometimes people do need help with these inputs as controllers aren't perfect and sometimes you get a fireball instead of a dp with false inputs and all
it was just the Critical Art command only being activated if you press buttons in sequence and not at the same time, this would decrease the reactivity
This is why I use his first Command Grab on my Ken style Custom Character. You can dash up, do a flaming attack that forces a block, and then punish with a Command Grab for blocking. And if they don't block/parry, you're doing serious Ken combos.
My first encounter with Modern Zangief was via watching a VTuber named Gamma Hizaki using it, especially during a two-team tournament starring him and some of his colleagues. He was the runner-up to the most menacing players to me there, the most menacing being the team leaders, who played Classic Guile and Classic Rashid, especially when they faced each other. And Gamma did reach Master with Modern Zangief, and as of now, he had already reached Master with Modern Lily too. Trying Modern Zangief for myself recently especially because of the struggle to input his Level 3 super on Classic, I found the ease of use freaking crazy. Sheesh. 🤯
I absolutely love the modern controls, this is the first street fighter ive liked and its thanks to the fact i can just play the game without having to put all that work in learning the classic controls. Been maining Marisa since launch but might try Gief next

Honestly. If you are a good player you will never, ever lose to modern controls no matter what character. Simply because 99% of good players use classic. It’s mostly noobs and mediocre players that use modern
There is a reason why Console Tager from Calamity Trigger was so scary despite being bottom tier. CT allow you to map 1 button special with ZERO penalty and 1 button Tager SPD, Super SPD and Astral Heat were so toxic.
Bouncing off of what you said about modern being a different play style, do you think it’s viable to learn both control schemes for different matchups? Maybe have classic for most games but switching to modern for matchups that requires those fast reactions to check opponents
i've always been terrible at using grapplers. the only one i used semi-successfully was king, in tekken 4. and it was only for the gimmick of the input buffer bug, against easy opponents at the arcade.

Modern gief has his weaknesses.. Limited pools of attack and damage nerf is a big factor to his gameplay.. Although faster frames and easy inputs makes up for them.. You just gotta work harder cause you'll do alot of chasing and I meen alot😂😂 thats what makes it both fun and frustrating 😂😂
Bruh, Zangief's command grab range is outrageous. I havent even played online yet, just getting used to SF6's combo system and just playing the computer had me scared to approach him!
really depends upon which character you are using to fight him against. if your character has to be in opponents face all the time then it will be tough. also up to gold ranks the game is easy most players will drop combo and etc. if you fight with level 7/8 CPU and win then you don't have to worry much
@@AdamantMindset I'm still on CPU level 6 so far. Those command grabs HURT! I know it's because I have to be close though. I use Kimberly currently. My current strategy is to just throw out kicks and hit confirm and whiff punish command grabs. My reactions gotta catch up to what I'm trying to do though 😩.
I've been dabbling with modern controller with Jamie, I have mixed feelings on it right now... In certain situations it's great, other times, I think it makes using Jamie a lil more complicated

My 5 year old brother crushed everybody playing Modern Zangief as soon as he figured out the SPD he just spammed it and laughed while no one could get close. I fought fire with fire when it was my turn and lobbed Hadoukens at him but I beat him properly the second time.

Reminds me of how Sodom's throws were done in Alpha 3. They weren't too hard to pull off and it made him a fun and easy grappler

Modern Gief is like playing against the AI on the hardest difficulty. If you are in range, you are getting grabbed 100%.

Limited pools of attack and damage nerf is a big factor to his gameplay.. Although faster frames and easy inputs makes up for them.. You just gotta work harder cause you'll do alot of chasing and I meen alot😂😂 thats what makes it both fun and frustrating 😂😂

Bruh, Zangief's command grab range is outrageous. I havent even played online yet, just getting used to SF6's combo system and just playing the computer had me scared to approach him!
really depends upon which character you are using to fight him against. if your character has to be in opponents face all the time then it will be tough. also up to gold ranks the game is easy most players will drop combo and etc. if you fight with level 7/8 CPU and win then you don't have to worry much
@@AdamantMindset I'm still on CPU level 6 so far. Those command grabs HURT! I know it's because I have to be close though. I use Kimberly currently. My current strategy is to just throw out kicks and hit confirm and whiff punish command grabs. My reactions gotta catch up to what I'm trying to do though 😩.
I've been dabbling with modern controller with Jamie, I have mixed feelings on it right now... In certain situations it's great, other times, I think it makes using Jamie a lil more complicated

What you said at the end of this video about modern mode it's why I suck at it I'm so used to playing classic when somebody goes to grab me with normal grabs I mess up the tech

My 5 year old brother crushed everybody playing Modern Zangief as soon as he figured out the SPD he just spammed it and laughed while no one could get close. I fought fire with fire when it was my turn and lobbed Hadoukens at him but I beat him properly the second time.
