Someone's gotta look pretty 😎 we do prefer the 00 because it's a great in between (grease & oil) but there's a huge shortage in Canada at the moment and we've been having a hard time finding it. I do know the new MTD's and Cub Cadets only call for 4oz of their Shell TTF-SB which is basically just Synthetic shell rotella t6 5w40 for snowblower gearboxes or 15w40 for hydrostatic transmissions. To keep my covers on in the wind I use tarp clips and bungee's. Also Harbor Freight has a grommet kit that I use with bungee's or their Ball Stretch Cords. I also have some nice John Deere branded covers with built in straps and they have never blown off, though they are expensive.

Jake and the Old Man are a team force although the Old Man does carry more weight in the shop than Jake just because he goes at 6 foot 3 inches and 255 pounds LOL. Gearboxes for snowblowers should have a low temperature Lithium grease which many came with or whatever the service manual calls for to maintain warranty. Imagine this: you put Red and Tacky in a customers gearbox, temps hit 29 below or colder and customer fires it up and starts blowing snow and gearbox fails. Customer wants free repairs because his manual called for 00 grease or other than what you installed. Now what are you going to say?
In sure you missed it but in the video you see me take tub of grease out of the back of the truck so it’s been sitting in below freezing temps for hours with no issues with it still remaining unchanged as far as it’s composition. I never bothered to check but I wonder how hot a gear case gets even with snow constantly hitting it. We void warranties here 🤣. What in the warranty process on a gear box? Do you have to send photos? For decades gearboxes had grease and they just switched to oil. I believe it comes to cost/whats available. I think oil is cheaper bc when you get a new machine the one thing it lacks is grease 😑
@@pattayperformance If a machine is under warranty and there is an issue it most go to either a certified warranty dealer or a small engine repair business that has been approved by the manufacturer. Eliminator Performance is no a warranty certified business but both MTD and Champion have allowed us to perform warranty work at our approved by them hourly rate plus HST and they ship us the parts at no charge. If anything other than OEM parts or materials have been used the warranty is voided and this would apply to Red and Tacky Grease in a gearbox. As an example Ariens made in the USA calls out a specific grease and fill level on their snowblower gearbox assembly. Any change in this would not only void a warranty but may also cause premature damage to the gearbox. At EP we follow the requirements as spelled out by the manufacturer no liability to be concerned about here Jason as we say better safe than sorry!

@@waynestefinashen239 As stated before the tub of grease was left overnight in the back of my truck. Tub of grease is at freezing temps when applied and showed no signs of hardening up. Their temp rating on the website is 0-450 I’m sure there is some leeway in that.
