You made the right call with Marilla. I read it all the way through, and there were aspects of it that I loved, like her early life, but overall, it fell flat for me.
So freeing to DNF and to step away from books that we don't get on with! I'll be sharing. a major DNF in an upcoming video of a book everyone cherishes. 😋
I do love Lady Hardcastle. That second is probably my least favorite of the series but I still loved it. So much fun (and LOVED that the seance stuff wasn't brought out as something good or wise or real). Totally get you on that. Aaah... the Pevensies. I'm so with you on the Collins thing with The Other Bennet Sister. AND... I really feel like she made me make Mary my favorite character. Which I did NOT expect. Buying Beatryce! "Sunset and evening star..." I can't hear "With blackest moss, the flower pots were..." without hearing Audrey Hepburn's cockney accent from My Fair Lady. Kind of ruined the poem for me. LOL.
Oh I'm glad the second book was your least favourite, I think I'll enjoy the following books more!! :) The Pevensies are so great! Yes re Mary, I think when I reread Pride and Prejudice I'll have a completely different view of her... LOL I can hear her accent 🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious!
I read a true crime by Karen Kingsbury before she became a Christian called The Snake and the Spider. It was so interesting. That story will stay with me. I also read Then Am I Strong by Francena Arnold which was wonderful. I had to get two others by her. Great video! 👏🏻
And thank you for the trigger warnings. I think it may be time for me to reread Narnia. Can I say that The Beatryce Prophecy has a beautiful cover?? ...adding to my TBR!
Hi Miriam, I just love your videos. You really made me want to read Tennyson! I remember that in the Miss Silver mysteries by Patricia Wentworth, she always loved Tennyson. She would always read a chapter of the Bible every night and some Tennyson. I should have read it then. I also read The Other Bennet Sister and enjoyed it but it was quite long ago so don’t remember the quality of the writing. Also I need to try that Middle Grade Beatrice book. Thank you. I recently finished David Copperfield and loved it so much! Just a great book. I finished The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and quite enjoyed that. I did read Mrs. England and it was a good story, but not spooky as I thought it was supposed to be, Gothic, but I didn’t think so. 😊
Wonderful wrap up video! I love how you explained why you DNF’d those books. You are making me want to read some Tennyson! I don’t think I have since college. And if you are looking for more Carol Ryrie Brink I recommend Family Grandstand and Family Sabbatical. Very different from Caddie but wonderful books. The second one especially.
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd...so, so good. Oh no...Marilla and Mrs. England (I DNF'd The Dragonfly Pool...it was not for me either). I love your reading tastes, and that you're DNF'ing more. I'm working through not being guilty about DNF'ing. Life is too short to force a read.
Wasn’t it amazing?! That ending… Let me know if you want to buddy-read an Agatha Christie at some point! Next three on my physical TBR are Dumb Witness, The ABC Murders, and Five Little Pigs. And yes life is indeed too short 🫠
Hey Miriam! I'm still watching your vids just not commenting much. 🥰I am reading Frank Mccourt's 'Angela's Ashes' at the moment and instantly thought ' aaaaaghh I need to recommend this to Miriam' . This book is incredible and very humbling I am sobbing my way through it at the moment but its a good sob x Have a great day! 🌻
Awww! I looove those Everyman pocket poet collections! They pick great poems. I’m sooo glad you liked The Other Bennet Sister! I’ve had The Beatrice Prophecy on my list!
I think the Wordsworth Pocket Poets is next on the list! Maybe for Alcott April if I can get to it... I'm glad I enjoyed it too! And I do hope you love the Beatryce Prophecy! It's so endearing!
Agreed re Tennyson, In Memoriam A.H.H. is so beautiful and so sad. I also love his Ulysses. Tennyson is well represented in a Penguin Victorian poetry anthology i own, but I dont own any separate edition of him. Your oxford world classics edition is so beautiful!
It really is! I read it in its entirety in March but am now re-reading it and taking more time with it, highlighting/underlining etc. I love how Tennyson explores grief. Ulysses is a really great one too! I love Oxford world classics!! I would collect alllll the classics in that edition if I could! 😅
Prince Caspian!!!
I'm not a huge fan of poetry, but Tennyson I liked better than most.
Dnfing is soooo freeing! 🙌🏻 I’ve been doing it like crazy. Some I’m dnfing before I even mark them as currently reading on Goodreads. 😆
Me too 😂 I don’t even mention some in wrap-ups if I DNFd really quickly… especially if they were books I wasn’t too sure about from the get-go.
Yessss DNFing is freeing!!👏👏
🙌🏽
Carol Ryrie Brink has a book called Winter Cottage that I loved as a young girl.
One of my favs. 😍♥️
Thanks! I'll try to prioritize that one next!
You made the right call with Marilla. I read it all the way through, and there were aspects of it that I loved, like her early life, but overall, it fell flat for me.
Yes,you are so right! I don’t want to force myself to continue, if I’m not happy. Thank you.

It definitely is! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts!!
I had a great reading month in March. Loved Sherlock Holmes, Honest June and The Babysitter’s club graphic novels.
Tennyson is one of my favorite poets♥️
I’m so glad you enjoyed him🥰
I can't get enough! I'm rereading In Memoriam now... and I feel like I'm getting even more from it even though I just read it a couple weeks ago.
The Other Bennet Sister❤❤
It was such a beautiful book! I hope the author writes more historical fiction.
5:34 Elantris 🔥 can’t wait to hear what you think about it!
I ADORE The Beatryce Prophecy ❣️❣️
It was amazing!!!
I need to do better when I need to DNF a book too! Especially when it's a book many people like.
I was more interested in the Canadian Underground Railroad in Marilla than the main story. 😂
😆

Ooo I’ll have to look into the Karen Kingsbury book!

The cover is stunning!!
You’ve got me intrigued on Beatryce

❤️❤️❤️ The Miss Silver series has been on my TBR for so long! I love that she reads Tennyson, the series is becoming more of a priority now!
David Copperfield is a great book! I really enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale when I read it a few years ago! Glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Love that you had a great reading month girl! ❤
I cant wait to read Prince Caspian ❤

I still need to read from Kate DiCamillo
Thanks for this video❤️
Thanks so much for watching!💕

Have you heard Loreena McKennitt's sung interpretation of the Lady of Shallot? If not, give it a listen!
Love Loreena! I heard her sing that live in concert!
Just listened to it after reading your comment, and wow! 🤩 loooved it! She has such a beautiful and ethereal voice.
@@miriamelizabethreads I'm glad you liked it. She is my favorite singer, and she has some truly superlative stuff.
I'm not a poetry fan either
I think at different stages of my life poetry will affect me differently... for where I am right now, Tennyson is literally speaking to my soul❤
@miriamelizabethreads love that for you sister ❤️
