His First Ride on a "Mountain Bike" 😬

- Taking a friend out mountain biking for the first time can be a tricky proposition. Sometimes it goes well. They pick it up right out of the gate. Other times they don't listen to a word you say and end up in a bad situation. Either way all you can do is hope you planted the seed of mountain biking in their head for future adventures!
Special thanks to @EverythingsBeenDone for collaborating on this one! We had a blast filming it.
Lol at the rigid fork. So true though. Suddenly everyone thinks that gravel bikes can do everything.
Gravel bikes are just road bikes with more grippy tires
I like what you’re doing here Joe. Great business model. You’re going to make millions! Millions I tell ya!
Millions of pennies! 😂
Looked like a can of *_Rockstar OG_* - yummmm!
When I first began MTBing I was 31 and all I had was an LX/XT Bridgestone MB-1 with Ritchey 2.35" tires and 26" Campy Mirox wheels (custom built by "Major Tom" in Sebastopol) and I often out-rode guys with front & full sus.
But that's when we rode for the exploration of it and almost every trail was either new or a rabbit trail - even the few rides I enjoyed with Scot Nichol, circa early 1990s.
Now riders are going faster on the trail than we used to average on our boring, monotonous skinny-tired road bikes - so bigger bikes, full suspension, fatter tires and bigger wheels makes sense!
But then there's still that small faction, we holdouts who still ride for the purity of it and don't believe we can "smell the flowers at 40 miles an hour" - lol (taken from an old '70s poster 😏) We who still love the 1969 Porsche 911 feel on the trail don't always need speed to find the joy of riding.
We always dreamed of better bikes that would smooth out the trail so we could do what we were doing without getting so beat-up, but with better bikes comes higher speed and now we're still getting just as beat up because we're pushing it just like we did back in the full-no-spension retro days but on bikes that can do more - and faster.
I predict a return to simplicity in the near future where people seek out old retro 26" bikes and organize appropriate rides for the purpose of experiencing the simpler, more nose-to-the-dirt feel of a non-suspension bike and the slower more thoughtful pace they explore.
Hey Tom, I still have my ol' silver MB-1, lol - do you?
...wait, "Gravel Bike" - huh? 🤔
