Maybe Win 11 will be initial point for desktop users to swap to Linux. Due to hardware incompatibility of "older" CPU boards.

I use Windows, Parrot VM, and Kali WSL. I have triple boot to Kali and Parrot as well, but only use it when I need direct hardware access. As soon as (and if) WSL will support it I'll remove both of them.

One of the tests I did on the Dual system was to run Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare. It ran well in Windows 10 and in Ubuntu the game loading speed was very high. It's been a long time since I did all my work in Ubuntu and I forgot to work with Windows 😂

I started first with ubuntu then mint then manjaro and then i am now where I am. I love using linux and use it as my daily driver. I am a student tho (high school). I use it for programming, watching videos. browsing web and playing video games (CSGO, Asphalt 9 Legends and Minecraft Java). I am now so used to linux that i can never think going back to Windows. Windows is just now a horrible time that I left back in time. I tried Windows 10 on VM and i was shocked to see how linux is literally so much user friendly for me than windows. Now i use linux happily and smoothly. I can call myself a Power User or GEEK. Also, if i want to recommend a beginner distro to someone, i would tell them to use Linux Mint as it has literally GUI apps for all command line utilities. BTW, I use Arch! :)

Does windows have a package manager?
Linux is way ahead of windows in lots of ther aspects too, only problem I have with it is, that lots of the good applications on windows are not available on Linux, I have to keep windows on my laptop because of that. Hopefully, Linux just has to reach the threshold market share required, after that, it will be the OS for me.
Also, Linux is already really good with just 2.5 % of market share, open source projects are directly proportional to the amount of people using it, so if it's so good at the 2 percent, 15 percent will be off the roof.

My multiple monitor development setup of 2 landscape + 2 Portrait + 1 landscape is the main reason I can't use Linux as my daily driver. After spending a couple weeks trying to sort out the overscan issue I went back to Windows 10. I do use various distros on my other 3 computers. This is part of the reason I don't think Linux is good for everyone. As for programmers I would argue that what you're developing for dictates what you develop on.

The only y down side in linux is that it does not have adobe Products ( if m not wrong), so I am a designer... i illustrate so making linux my main os(there is some alternatives like inkscape but I did not like it), so basically I can not, tho I have wsl in my windows :( but i really want to use arch linux, cuz I wanna make my own customized os.. if only linux had some better designing and Illustration apps :(((

I started with dual boot with Win + Ubuntu and I am happy I did. It definitely took me a lot of time to "get" package managers, config files etc. so that point is really true. I disagree about multiple monitors, although I faced massive issues with resolution when I had to use an adapter. When I switched monitor in question everything worked out of the box.
It was a journey for me and now I am on Windows and Fedora dual boot for about 2 years. Just decided to switch to try out something different and now I get what people mean when they say that distributions do not matter. I run i3 and tiling window managers are a huge selling point for me. I want to move to Linux full time (work and private PC) but games keep the need for Windows for now - although I am able to play many games through Steam out of the box - others required a lot of work.
This is also the point where I think you should not include in the video. Why should programmers care about gaming? Are we gaming on company's laptops? ;) Unless of course you are working as game dev, then for sure Linux is not for you.
I always used Windows, in my current job we use Macs and privately I use Linux as much as I can. I sympathize with Linux the most, but reality it that games are far from the point I can use them - but I fully understand this is an issue with developers, not Linux. It is kinda a chicken and the egg problem with games, but that is another big topic.
I think that many, many people can use Linux just out of the box on their PCs and laptops, it is just missing from schools and workplaces so people are not introduced to them, so they stay away from the unknown. A lot of what people do does not care about OS. Browser is what matters. All the Facebooks, UA-cams, Netflixes, mails, Google Docs, Sheets etc live in the browser.
To "convert" to Linux you need to care about your privacy, practices of companies (e.g. trend where you no longer own the hardware you pay for) and have some patience and time to learn something new - nothing really extraordinary, but surprising amount of people does not have it...
I hope for the best when it comes to Linux's future.

Why did you choose Fedora? I have used a lot of Debian-based and Arch-based distros, but never Fedora.

    • @Harytus
      @Harytus 2 роки тому

@@NeuralNine Seems that my reply was not posted yesterday, not sure what happened.
No particular reason for Fedora. I was still very new to Linux and I read somewhere that Ubuntu is based on Debian so I expected it to be the same and I wanted to try something else. I also read somewhere that Red Hat are the good guys on Linux (no opinion on that, just what I read) and at my work we use CentOS for servers so it made sense to go with Fedora.

    • @helloitshecker
      @helloitshecker 8 місяців тому

@@NeuralNine Actually, Fedora provides more newer packages than Debian and little older packages than Debian. This creates a balance between package versions. Also, Fedora offers vanilla experience. The issue with Fedora is its package manager "dnf", Its just crazy slow. BTW, I use Arch!

I agreed with your point and sooner or later i have to use Linux
the reason is that i have one old computer 🖥️ that wean window 10 end the support i have to operating system to get in that computer.
I'm not sure what distro to add but the stuff i want to have this distro are the following
    1. Be staeble
    2. Have option to add wine
    3. To have desktop invaroment
    4. I want to be light i don't really care the visual effects ect.
    5. To be 64bit but to able to run 32bit software if want.
    6. And most important to not have compression in the order to be light.
The reason I want this distro be light but and 64 is because i don't want my operating system to take all the resources,
I perfer to make those resources to go software or game's im using,
Also this pc is not the best 😅 it's not ultra potato in the order have use very light os like Lubuntu but the don't meet the window 11 standard 😅
so i distro that doesn't have much compressing and not take many resurse i will perfect.
One least this the desktop invaroment it mast need to work on 720p i don't want to dialing with window that is bigger for the monitor resolution this computer have.
So what distro recommend for this one last thing this PC I will use for older games and indie game's.
For now window is works great on this computer but if what Microsoft said it's true I have to fund Linux distro. Wean the support end.

    Suggestion of the day:
You want to develop software: Ubuntu Desktop LTS (Compiling in linux is 4 times faster)
Want to play: Windows + Qemu-Kvm + Passthrough
This is based on experience, in fact Windows works faster in a VM with Qemu-Kvm
Everything you ignore is difficult, learn and it will be easy.
