    now that i'm actually a freediver, the concept that adam teaches becomes more and more the real thing. but when i was a beginner i can't really appreciate it that much because i was focusing on other things that are not on the correct stages. great tutorials! keep it up.

    Love that you're straight up telling the truth without bullshitting around. I wonder what my diving will look like this summer after two years without any freediving at all. Also I need to get my hands on a monofin. Dynamic must be 10x better with a monofin instead of bi-fins.

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  6 років тому +1

      thanks brother! it's so so much better with a monofin haha. You'll most likely have a few bad dives before your body works out what's going on and you'll be back again!

    My first 10 meter dive:
    I take it calm and slow down too 10 meters. Why?
    Because i stayed relaxed and keep enough Oxygen too stay on the sand floor. And enough too get up too safety. Drop your weight belt if it makes you feel safe.
    When i swim too the surface i don’t stress, but i only swin calm and controlling. Then you faster ready for a new dive.

    nice presentation, Adam. Sadly I'm still stuck with equalisation troubles (harder past 12-13 meters) and the feeling of "there's no air to equalize". I feel perfectly comfortable pressure wise (actually never felt pressure at all, even at my personal record of 24.5). Just...can't find air to equalize, and the feeling of in general having very little air in my lungs (which might, in retrospect, be pressure). I do very comfortably dive with empty lungs to 7-8 meters (after slowly working up to that in summer). Oh well. At least in Malta there's unlimited depth to play with, differently from Cyprus and Spain!

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  6 років тому

      Sounds like you need to work on your grouper call to bring more air into your mouth :) here's to Malta!

    I am just starting off with freediving. I’ve watched a lot of your videos even before I started and I just have one very important question: when will I black out? I do not hyperventilatilate before a dive, ever. I breathe in for 5 sec and out for 10 sec after that I take a normal breath and pack my lungs full of air before diving down. I am very scared of blackouts because my friend is terrible at rescuing. I can hold my breath for 2:30 sec at the surface, if that matters

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  6 років тому +2

      hopefully you will never black out. So for starters unless you are diving deeper than 50-60m there is really no need to pack and if you're not diving that deep you should definitely stop. Just progress slow and stay well within your limits when you're diving recreationally.

    Equalization, is the act of equalizing, equalisation, is just the noun ....ha ha ! Great vid Adam.
    So my question is, because I live in Canada and can't dive year round ,
    Will I lose my depth adaption every season end ? Or once you have hit a new pb, it will always progress from that point on , even after a long layoff? Cheers mate.

    Is there a general "You should be able to hold your breath for x amount of time" for certain depths? Like for, let's say, 20m or 30m?

    • @alexfinn7989
      @alexfinn7989 3 роки тому

      Time generally isn’t a factor in my experience, your skills will prevent you reaching a depth before your breath hold time will. By the time you learn the skills, your breath hold time will have worked itself out (at least up to about 50 meters or so). Regrading time specifically, it is usually thought about it in terms of meters per second. For competition divers generally go around 1.0 m/s (to reach this speed requires quite a bit of skill). So for a 20 meter dive, if you had the skill to reach 1 m/s, it would take 20 seconds down, turn around time 1-2s, and 20 seconds back up. Let’s say 45 seconds. By the time you learn all the skills to reach 20 meters, holding your breath for 45s isn’t an issue.

      I get cold in 27 degree water. In Guam it's always warm. Never need a wetsuit

    #revenge #evilwife What would you day the best thing for someone who doesn’t live by any big body of water so it’s harder to learn or find a freediving instructor to do if they want to start freediving?

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  6 років тому +1

      Well I'd say the best thing would be to train in a pool and enjoy a few glorious freediving holidays to tropical locations a few times a year or as often as you can :)

    You doing alright? been 3 weeks without a video. I am just starting my freediving training, i train three times a week in the pool and do all my O2 tables pretty much daily, still stuggling with frenzel. I did buy my O.M.E.R stingray fins... really wanted Mares, but the foot pocket just didnt fit, either to big or to small. I do have a question, my wife watches as i do my breath holds in a dead man float. She taps me on the shoulder when i hit 2 minutes so i can start lifting a finger to let her know i'm alright. I have a mental block at that 2 minute mark, as soon as i think i'm feeling contractions i get scared and come up for air. I find myself letting air into my mouth and sucking it back down again, is this part of those contractions? Soon as i get back from my scuba dive I'm finding a training center, although in the desert (Phoenix, AZ) really hard to find. Found one SSI dive center so far.

      haha still alive and still good :) i've just been training a lot. That does sound exactly like a by product of a contraction or two. The best thing to get past mental barriers is to do many breath holds just before the barrier, let's say 1:45 and make those so easy and comfortable and then slowly progress a few seconds at a time from there. You'll get past it in no time
