- I had a long weekend off, so I decided to drive from my place in Utah to Wyoming to catch Union Pacific's Heritage Donation Special. It was taking numerous pieces of equipment UP donated to Railroading Heritage of Midwest America. Please enjoy and thanks for watching
Railroading Heritage of Midwest America web site: rrhma.com/
i hope when the challenger and 5511 are fixed up they decide to get a photo of 844 and 4014 all together
Hell yes! Could you imagine Big Boy and Challenger lashed up? That would be an INSANE amount of power.
I definitely disagree with UP's decision to let Challenger go. I would love to see a lashup of Big Boy & Challenger. THAT would be amazing.
I thought it would be cool to have 4014, 3985, and 844 "race" down the triple track together.
RRHMA said they will restore it to working order. If that's what it took to get 4014 going then that's a decent deal.
At least 3985 will get another lease on life with the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America. It would be so much work for UP to operate maintain 3 big steam locomotives.
@@TranscontinentalRailfan *So, that was the deal? Too much work in maintaining all of thoze steamers? Well, God bless them for keeping so much old steam, however, UP makes billions shipping freight. Perhaps the pandemic and other global issues cut into their profits...*
@@JungleYT I’m so thankful that a non-profit organization is willing to restore UP 3985 and 5511. That’s what really matters. Even the restorations for both 3985 and 5511 have progressed significantly under RRHMA.
Great footage thanks for sharing!
Wonderful train😃⤴️⤴️Very cool locomotives :)
Awesome catch!
Great catch
Last night in Council Bluffs, IA, we sat in below freezing temperatures at a crossroads for over 3 hours last night waiting so my 13 yr old son could get a glimpse of his one true love.
It was scheduled to pass by at apx. 5:30 pm.
It never arrived.
At 8:15 pm we went home.
Why didnt you just check the website for UP Steam
@@Sassafras- I googled dozens of sites but never found that one. Its fine though.
We are over it and moving on.
Have a great Thanksgiving
@@vallangaard Since this was more of a run generating freight revenue than a special run, I'm sure they were told to get rid of the schedule. Not to mention, the last minute reroute over the IAIS mainline. But like you said, it's over now, and the equipment is now in its new home. It's time to let RRHMA get their hands on the equipment.
@@davidng2336 Really?
You're saying they were moving two well-respected, out-of-service engines to "generate freight revenue"?
Including train enthusiasts creating videos, detailed routes, maps and expected timelines.
....because that's sooo common with "generating freight revenue".
Its almost like it was touted as an event.
But when the money grubbing unions got involved, the ruse was revealed.
But its all good.
My son has, thankfully, retained his love for trains, but after that night and the 11 HOURS we spent waiting the next day (to only see them from a great distance), he has got to see what the railroad is really about.
They don't honor the past. Nor do they give the slightest phuck about the millions of fans.
Nothing but money.
He calls them "The Union Pathetic" now.
I appreciate your 'spin' on the issue, Dave.
Have a great day
@@vallangaard please see the comment by Frank Wurth in this video: ua-cam.com/video/H3zBks1tRvg/v-deo.html
He explains this issue much better than I did.
Really glad you were able to catch this! Didn't think there was necessarily going to be a breakdown, but not surprised either. If anything, the only necessary stops are mainly to grease the steam locomotives.
It broke down about 20 miles from the first greasing stop.
@@michiganrailfan2141 that sucks. At least they were able to fix it.
@@davidng2336 Not sure they did fix it, the steam engines didn't look like they were making power. (no steam, no whistle, no smoke)
@@drisbain this is the diesel we are referring to. The lead diesel broke down.
Wish I could’ve caught this, but as usual, nothing ever comes through New York 😔
as a north carolinan I know how you feel 😔
Same in Wisconsin, we're not on the way to anything (except the UP)
Looks like UP saw an opportunity to clean out a lot of old machinery. It'll be good if what's worth saving can be saved.
The museum is already in the process of restoring 3985 to working condition. All the rest of the equipment should be restored after that.
@@michiganrailfan2141 *Who bankrolls them? With all of the damned billionaires in this country not ONE of these Jerks is into trains? A rounding error to bankroll such efforts... Smh*
@@JungleYT usually donations from people visiting the museum. Sometimes there's some more well off individuals who will donate larger sums.
@@michiganrailfan2141 Yeah... Too bad ole Jeff "Pop eye" Bezos is such a cheap skate. Would rather launch giant dildos into space
Any word on whether the Centennial will be kept operating?
I believe I heard it should be, but I'm not 100% sure
Yes, 6936 will operate again too.
What is that old caboose and EMD E9 doing on that train they in place before fhe fall cars with the wheels on them
The caboose and E9 are also being donated along with the the others.
*So, that big LONG B Unit is an E-9? **1:48*
Yes it is @@JungleYT
Do you or anyone have the exact schedule? I saw they took down the schedule off of UP’s website
I don't have one, but if you go to The Union Pacific Steam Program Facebook page there are people who have been posting screen shots of the schedule before it was taken down.
Are they going to be fully restored? Or just just restored for looks? Or even worse, scrap?
Thank god they aren’t being scraped
I wonder if a future gathering of big steam in Silvis, Illinois with 261, 6988, 5511 and 3985 is possible?
What a Railroad. Even the museum special breaks down. smh
Well considering that 5511, the one that broke down, hadn't been running in decades it's really not that surprising.
4014😔😔😔
Oi🙏💘
how do 5511 and 3985 look better than the diesel because that diesel is *FILTHY*
I think 3985 and 5511 were kept inside. Also up until UP restored 4014 they kept 3985 operating.
@@michiganrailfan2141 not really, it stayed inside a roundhouse until 4014 was complete and only then was it retired
@@TheSudrianTerrier653 I heard they wanted another engine to do it, like engine 4664. However, it's not DPU capable so they had to do something else. 5716 was ultimately their best option at the time.
*She looks ROUGH! Words like "donate" scare me, like an old person about to get cut up? Hope they have the pockets to get her back under steam... UP too bankrupt to keep her? **1:19** Is this monster right here an E Unit? **1:49*
It's not they're too bankrupt to keep her, but with 4014 and 844 the shop has their hands full.
@@michiganrailfan2141 Well, hopefully UP's shops will split some of the maintenance duties with this organization once they get 3985 back up and running again and vice-versa... Too bad Doyle McCormick is getting up in age... He's a master. His shop maintains SP 4449
what a nasty buzzing sound. as if a mortally wounded hippo yells
