My favorite singer. Geoff came up in a period where there were so many amazingly talented bands, guitarists and dynamic singers, but Geoff made it look too easy. 🤯🤘
I was in high school when this was fresh. I wasn't into metal yet. A guy in wood shop introduced me to Queensryche. Geoff and Bruce Dickinson have been my 2 favorite vocalists for over 25 years. 🔥
Holy moly!!!! Unreal that he can still hit these notes when most other vocalists from this decade are in waaaaaay lower keys/octaves. Only wish it was the original band backing him.
This was the first song I ever heard from Queensryche and was blown away. Geoff sounds great here, very cool. I thought I read something somewhere years ago that Geoff hated this song and refused to perform it live anymore 🤷🏻♂️, guess not lol
i will never get tired of hearing Geoff sing, I've been a fan since the first time i heard him. i know he had a lot of problems with his instrument but it sounds like he's recovered beautifully, it's hard to believe that is the voice of a man that is 64 years old. i can only hope my voice will be as strong as his when i'm his age.
When I saw them open for KISS in 1984, I knew at that moment, they would become my all-time favorite band! And, they did blow KISS out of the water too!
He went through a period where he wasn't that good. Clearly he's recovered, because this is obviously not lip-synched or processed (at least not more than has been standard for metal since the 70s!). This is just him and it's amazing. Maybe he went to a vocal coach or something. And the band sounds so tight. You can tell a lot of practice went into this sound. I hope I can make it to see them live on this tour.
Every singer will loose atleast half octive as they get older. It is just thining of the vocal cords I guess. Other factors can make singers loose more than that. Like vince neil for example.
No, it is not necessary. Opera singer don't loose their abilities with the age. You can listen for example russian metal vocalists, the didn't loose their voices because of more classic training instead of their american collegues. It is all about right training. You can find Legion or Kipelov and listen. Legion was formed earlier than Queensriche but their singer still one of the greatest metal singers ever.
Geoff nailed that! It's incredible when you think about it because that song was released 40 years ago! To be able to still hit those high notes is nothing short of amazing. He deserves to be playing in larger venues!
@@wilfredoriverajr. it pains me to hear this. Absolutely awful vocal. I was there at the start of their journey and was a huge fan for many years....but to see so many people here saying how this was brilliant and he nailed it and hit all the high notes.....not even close.
Great vid! Being from Seattle, I was fortunate enough to see Queensryche play roller rinks and small clubs all around the area. Geoff still sounds as good now as he did then!
Queensryche were Brilliant as growing up 15yo here in Australia 🇦🇺 had this Song on my treasured HeavyMetal V.H.S tape recorded from T.V & gradually worn out from repeated watching whilst drinking + smoking weed on W.E's
Saw him after the pandemic and he was really good, but seemed kinda tired. Just read he had an undiagnosed heart problem and had open heart surgery last year. He told an interviewer that he feels like he’s in his 30s again. Damn…it shows in the clips from recent shows.
Of all the differences in 80/90's era bands lead singers sounding different these days....i will and must say that Geoff Tate is still on point, with all his songs. May not be as easy for him but he pulls those notes just as good as before. Amazing!
One of my all time favorite singers. Saw Queensryche a bunch of times some of the best shows ever. On top of that I was in a band that opened for them on their American Soldier tour. Talked to Geoff for a while before the show very nice guy.
Geoff has still got it. they were one of my favorites growing up. It's a shame what all went on with the original line up. There was so much talent and so many phenomenal songs. Although I've been enjoying the newest album from the other Queensryche.
Please be sure to tip your waiters and waitresses. Murph and the Magic Tones will be coming up shortly. Seriously, it's very pleasing to hear that Geoff is sounding much more like himself the past couple years. It was very rough for a while. His legacy will never be in danger. What he did with Queensryche will stand forever. I also do NOT believe in pitting bands against each other. Music is NOT a competition. It's art!! I just love what Todd La Torre has brought to the mix with Queensryche and Geoff is doing his thing. There is more than enough room for both to co-exist. And it is possible to love both! Try it! It's very liberating!
Geoff is still out there performing and sounding as great as ever. 40 years and still incredible. And he's not embarrassing himself or his Legendary legacy. So many singers of that era are horrible because they never worked their craft and are Just embarrassing themselves.
I bought the queensryche album the band put out themselves before they got a deal... freshman year of high school... I was the only one out of everyone I knew that had it.. blew everyone away... it's tough seeing Geoff playing nightclubs.. first time I saw them they opened for loverboy in 82... they literally had four songs.. that show was at the memorial coliseum Portland Oregon... 1982 was a good fucking year for concerts. Maiden number of the beast opened for scores blackout... Sabbath with Dio.. Sammy hagar priest metal church. Acdc and back then it was a new album every year and tour.. every year.. the 80s were the last good decade.. no cell phones or camera's everywhere.. ya we had reaganomics and aids .. but we also way better drugs too. Cheap old hot rods.. you could buy a 69 camaro with low miles on it for like 4 grand.. with original paint and likely 2nd owner was you.. I'm lucky I grew up in the perfect decade.. all you youngsters seeing old dudes driving the bad ass old hot rods.. . Ya we got wm cheap when we were kids and drove the shit out of them.. cuz they were everywhere cheap as hell... big hair lots of pussy... mmhhmm the 80s were the shit
So many people talk about Geoff losing his ability to hit those notes, but I have seen him live several times with his band. He still has it... Unreal vocalist and impacts so many people!!!
It is tragic that this man is still not in the whole original band anymore when he can sing like this. Geoff stuck playing small clubs while the band still plays large venues.
True but that was Geoff's fault for dragging the band down along with his wife, it's a shame he stopped singing these songs in Queensryche while he was still in Queensryche.
Unfortunately also the Queensryche don't play large venues. Only as a, support act. But I don't want to talk about the what is left of once a great band. I hardly even check out what the others are putting out. GT still got my attention.

I've seen Queensryche several times, the first time at Sweden Rock 2006 when they had just released Operation Mindcrime II and last time a few years ago with Todd at the microphone. I saw Geoff Tate a few months ago in Umeå, Sweden (my hometown) and the concert was just magical from beginning to end. There is something magical about his voice.
Where was this performance I see it was quite recent, and it makes me so happy to hear his voice quite recovered from some of the problems. Geoff tate still sounds good at his age and looks happier than ever performing with his current band
