The drills at the start really help with learning to put weight in the back of your skate - The turn around "touch the ground" Drill will help you see if you put the weight too far forward as you will go onto your toe stops instead of continuing the glide backward. - Work on your one-foot Glides - Work on being low and controlled Practice makes Progress 👏
You are literally the best teacher ever! Every time you say “that looks okay” or something similar I literally feel like you’re coaching me one on one!
Hey Marilyn! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!!! The drills were great, although I still can’t transition... There was a lot of chicken scratching going on at first... Then I kept planting my toe stop which landed me on the floor many times, thank God for gear... Anyway I’m starting to get the hang of it now so thanks again, you rocked it!🖤🖤🖤
Thank you for this tutorial, Marilyn! Simple explanation and I'm gonna try it out along with the drills. Backward crossovers are definitely a work in progress. Each practice though I feel it becomes more and more natural. Then voila! ThANK YOU!
I have watched so many backwards skating videos and could not figure out how to transfer what they were showing to me and my skating. Omg!! You nailed it. Makes sense now. Thank you!!!❤️
Thanks!! I am still working on my forward crossovers (using your drills) but am going to attempt some of these drills very soon. My hubby has a very strong backwards crossover and I get so jealous lol!! He looks like he is gliding and it just looks so powerful! (He played street hockey as a child)
Great vidja! Love the POV. I've been trying to understand the movement of crosspulls and this helped me. I'm going to the rink today and will be applying what you showed. Thx!
Thank you so much for doing this. I just stubbed my toe a few hours ago but I can't wait to try this as soon as I'm back at it. I love your teaching style. 😊
Love this video. I can do one side but am really struggling with the other. And like you say it's good to be able to do everything both directions. So this break down of drills I think will be such a great help to get me sorted. Thanks for sharing 😊
Hey Marilyn, thanks for making your videos. I like the different views. You’re one of my favorite go-to skate channels. I know there are different skating styles, but the mechanics are the same. I’m going to practice this at the outdoor rink. 😉
Yes mine look a bit like chicken scratching haha. Will work on the bubbles and gliding like you mentioned . And yay you're at 800 subs now🖤💚🖤 have a great day!!!
Your videos are amazing! You are really good at teaching new moves. Love how you break things down into manageable steps. Any chance that you could do one on laterals - I really struggle with them?
Thank you for this! I am definitely at the chicken scratch stage and was starting to feel frustrated and wondering if I was just doing it wrong completely. Gonna practice the other things you showed to help me get it more smooth. Again, thanks!
that "chicken scratching" bit is EXACTLY what mine looks like. LOL the "movement" for me is coming but I start picking up speed and then I get scared and fall.
Hi, thank you for this tutorial, and the drills! I manage ok going backwards with my outside foot staying down, but I’m wondering, do you ever pick it up to step over? TIA!
I’m a heavy dude and my weight as always been impossible to work with. If I start those bubbles stationary, I can barely complete one. And because I’m so heavy I don’t want to force a bubble to completion cause I might grind the wheels... I don’t want to quit but I just can’t seem to put the weight back there...
I'm all good with the backward crossovers, right up until I need to put my back foot, back down to re-set. I get scared I'm going to put my foot back down in the wrong place and get my feet in a tangle. Is there a secret to avoiding this?
I had a rule when I was learning, do it 500 times. if ts still an issue asses, Im sorry I cant help. Its hard without seeing you. make sure your nice and low. these things take time
Best tutorial on UA-cam for backward Crossovers 🤍
Thank you 🙏
I love the sound of your wheels on the concrete in that big open room.
Me 2 🍉🙌

Oh thank you. Off course! I coach them regularly 😍 very important for derby
These drills I do need thank you! I like derby but I dont have a clue. More Derby drills for me to practice can make more skate time.
Glad you like them!
@@MarilynTantrum glides are on one foot backwards?? Is that glides?
@@hadleymanmusic yep. One foot skating.
I just learned how to backwards crossover thank you so much you've helped me a lot!

Falling in not a bad thing. You need to know how to fall correct and you will be fine 😃
Awesome!! Thank you
You're welcome!
Hi, thank you for this tutorial, and the drills! I manage ok going backwards with my outside foot staying down, but I’m wondering, do you ever pick it up to step over? TIA!
so hard to know with out seeing you :( you can always Tag me on TikTok if you need me to see you skate?
I thought the outside door had to come up, but after watching this and trying the drills, I really got a better feel for it, THANK YOU!!
Do you put most of your weight on the leg that’s not crossing? Awesome job btw.
Yes 🙌
3:39 what is that and how to do that?
I’m a heavy dude and my weight as always been impossible to work with. If I start those bubbles stationary, I can barely complete one. And because I’m so heavy I don’t want to force a bubble to completion cause I might grind the wheels...

ok no worries, maybe just work on stride
Can you make a tutorial on how to backwards crossover in a line like when your not turning much needed please
