The thing that’s really got me about this game is implementing a whole stealth mechanic that they literally used for one single mission. It would be so cool if we could get some black widow or Hawkeye stealth missions in the future.

I didn’t know why, but I found myself not minding the 30 fps while playing it on ps5. I also had it on quality mode for the ps4 version of the game too. When I played on ps4 pro I had a clear preference to 60fps mode tho.

Man I really had fun with this game, looked great. Yes some combat was repetitive, story was fun. You take a trade off when a game looks good. Bought it at a discounted price digitally on my series x. I’d recommend it to anyone especially since it’s been discounted.
Fuck this game. It was my favorite thing for months till they shit on it with the Spider-Man update. He plays like crap and ruins the whole experience. Besides that. Story is great. Gameplay is awesome. There’s a lot of exploration in the combat so it doesn’t get old for a long time. And ALMOST all of the DLC characters are awesome. Blank Panther is definitely the most fun of the 4.
Get it if you love Marvel. Do not get for Spider-Man. Especially get it if you like games you can just drop into for a couple hours without a lot of commitment - like COD. It’s so much fun.

If you're someone who likes grinding and leveling up abs unlocking things, plus enjoying the fan service. Then you may really enjoy this. Definitely worth buying on sale price. @NxGamer Great video but I think that the important bit of missing information was an explanation of what Checkerboard rendering actually is. Checkerboard rending here halves the native resolution on the vertical axis and then scales to the full resolution. So the PS5 tops out at 1920x2160 as instead of the full 3840x2160 native resolution used by Series X. As you can imagine, that leaves a lot of headroom to hit that 60fps target to keep up with Series X. I think most people will watch this thinking "Why did the devs use checkerboarding when it doesn't need it?". Thus requesting for fixes from the dev team as though it is a bug. What I find strange is that the Series X is ~20% more powerful than PS5 but here the resolution difference is much much bigger than that. Doesn't make sense to me but what do I know...?
You are correct about the resolution differences, the input resolution on ps5 (1920x2160) is half that of the series X when they are both outputting 3840x2160. I agree with NX Gamer that the ps5 could have and should have targeted native 3200x1800 and scaled down from there. For whatever reason, whether it was to claim 4k resolution or more likely just time constraints, the developers went for a checkerboard implementation. I don't think checkerboard rendering has a place this generation for any new games developed if the console can reach 3200x1800 or even down to 2560x1440 natively. Checkerboard might look better at the lower bounds in a static image but in motion it tends to have distracting artifacts. What might be a better option over traditional checkerboard would be temporal injection. I'd like to learn more about the magical and mystical temporal injection insomniac uses but I can't find much information about it online! And then there is nividia's DLSS and eventually Amd's FidelityX super resolution which are going to make it even harder for NX Gamer and others to compare reconstructed images to their native counterparts.

Crystal Dynamics made some major improvements but the next time a superhero game is being developed leveling up shouldnt be in the game because they're already superheroes. It's not like the gamer is creating a superhero. Allowing the superhero to just be the superhero would improve the vision and focus of future superhero games.
If they just made a straightforward either open world game or linear story without the live service model it might have been decent. They could have added a couple of heroes as DLC or just made a sequel with different heroes and villains. The live service model ruined it from the beginning of development. Just look at the reception games like Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales got in comparison.
Yes I would! They all feel like you are actually playing as the characters except for hulk who is super underpowered. But for story mode only and the free dlc missions like hawkeye, defo worth the lower price point.
@@Tuff1607 disagree about hulk being underpowered. He can one shot bosses and destroy tons of enemies on seconds, i wouldn't call that underpowered. The game is definitely worth playing, at least for that campaign.
Weird that the checkboard resolution in this game on PS5 has more issues than other games with checkboard resolutions on the system. Miles Morales, for example, looks super clean in its performance mode, which uses checkerboard 4K. No flickering at all to speak of and text is razor sharp.
@@stitchius I mean, I have an RTX 3080 and I still can't run everything at Native 4K 60fps. It's the same reason XSX uses dynamic resolution. Different solutions, same reason - 4K is still very demanding.
Spider-Man can’t be compared to anything else as it’s only PS4/PS5 and they both use checkerboard. If it was available on series x you might be able to see the difference.
@@samg3187 Spiderman can be compared to Avengers here since they both use checkboard 4K. There is no flickering text and bittering objects in the distance in Spiderman performance mode. The implementation in Avengers was poor and/or rushed.

The image quality on XSX is superior. This is because it used a native 4k resolution whereas the PS5 used a reconstructed 4k resolution. The framerate on the PS5 and XSX was near identical. Compared to last gen the game runs at a largely smooth 60fps on the XSX, PS5 and XSS. This is because of the more powerful CPU's in these new consoles. On last gen you are either stuck at a smooth 30fps or a stuttery and inconsistent 40-60.
Fair answer but I’ll add if you have a next gen system you’re getting games close to each other in quality and fps as well as resolution so stop reading articles if they work you up because as a layman you aren’t going to notice almost any of what they are talking about. If you didn’t ask the question for bragging rights or to be toxic then the answer above is great with the caveat that yes Xbox will probably run most games a small percentage better but both systems are better than what 95% of the super toxic pc “elight” play on so if you wanna be a fanboy focus on those lying assholes and their constantly hacked, aimbotted, almost unplayable multiplayer games.

@@normalperson696 those were games like a month in launch ever since December ps5 hasn't been outperforming in much really. Mostly the same where xbox runs a higher resolution while playstation keeps a steady FR. At the beginning of a gen it kinda doesn't matter how either one performs due to the fact that games are being ported over from last gen and developers really arnt making their games specifically for the next gen consoles yet.
I think inferior is the wrong word as it up to the developers and what they can do with the consoles. In this instance the team that did the xbox version made the right call and the team that did the ps5 version should have done the same by using native resolution even if drs was 1800p to 1440p native but they want to reach higher resolutions even though it was checkerboard. Their checkerboard technique in the performance mode looks so bad, a native 1440p with drs would look so much better. The UI scaling is also weird. Please fix it SE. I want to get the game on ps5 for the spiderman exclusive but if it stays like this i d rather wait until i can get a xbox series x.
This game is just a carryover from the PS pro. He said in the video it would be to expensive to totally redo it just to make it native for the PS. None of the new Ps games are checkerboarded.
There are two games here. An EXCELLENT single player, character-driven story, and a divisive multiplayer (which you can play on your own fully if you prefer. I know I do). The combat system is deep and a lot of fun. The multiplayer missions are what gets repetitive quickly.
Please explain how is 1800Checkerboarded higher resolution than 1440P native? What comparing apples and oranges? Same as trying to argue that 1080i is higher resolution than 900p
It's purely semantics, output resolution is not the same as input resolution or even perceived resolution. Here he was referring to output resolution. Checkerboard will often be a higher output resolution but it has a lower input resolution and perceived resolution in this case.
But what’s the answer? Is 4K native equal to checkerboard? Because if so Quantum Break is waiting on all the apologies from people who didn’t understand that it was actually the same as any other 1080p game. I have a 65” Sony 4K and need to sit very close, closer than comfortable to really spot the differences. I’m an Xbox guy but from what I can tell PS5 runs games beautifully and all the toxicity comes from fanboys and sites like ign that don’t care what they write as long as it causes the fanboys to go into attack mode. It’s like how the news plays up any blacks vs whites or women vs men or cops vs criminals stuff that happens and never ever clarifies the fact that most of those situations are either being deliberately manufactured to cause unrest and that the cases that are legit are the exception not the rule. Not trying to throw in politics but that’s how these websites have trained us to react to positive/negative news about “our” console. And the real divide in this country and the world is the wealthy vs everyone else. They control almost everything. Just look at how they manipulated GameStop stock because retail investors caught on to their money printing machine and found ways to use it against them. In that arena btw just read that we the people actually have more buying power than wealthy investors and everyone else except hedge funds and they don’t usually do as many underhanded things, at least over the short term. We gamers and us, the disenfranchised lower and the barely there middle class, need to work together to improve all our lives and as far as gaming that means putting our money where our mouth is. If I’m a ps guy I’m refusing to buy $60 remakes and generation upgraded games. On Xbox I have gamepass but if I didn’t I would refuse to give them the same credit for mediocre games they say are AAA than I would for gears or halo. I know games are expensive to make but if Xbox hadnt done what they have as far as buying studios and offering ea play, gamepass, day and date exclusives and Bethesda then I may have been almost forced over to PlayStation. Also getting “the Show” was a huge get in my opinion. You now have every major sport on your system on the newest or second newest release just with gamepass.
@@Johnnylowfive the answer is definitively no, CB is not equal to native. Checkerboard 4k generally looks around 1800p rather than 2160p. A natively rendered 4k will always look better than checkerboard rendered 4k. Some checkerboard games look better than other checkerboard games. This one looks particularly bad on PS5, probably because of the dynamic resolution.

I'm taking about the editing style and specifically the fast cuts, not the context. I feel NX gamer here actually did a better job explaining the differences in image quality than digital foundry did. However, it was a little more technical than digital foundry's video and required some more background knowledge about resolutions and the way in which checkerboard rendering works.

God of war is bathed in image artifacts. It's a great looking game but the image is incredibly unstable, hair in that game is a mess of sparkly pixels. Also how are you remembering things? Xbox one x almost always pushed for higher native resolutions even at the cost of lower frame rates.

@@ashtonjackfanny Control isn't a strong argument against the XSX, the game ran essentially the same as PS5. The PS5 suffered gamma issues and the XSX had an I/O related bug. Then when digital foundry done their Raytracing test in Control's photomode the XSX had a 16% advantage over the PS5.

Why are we getting reviews here now? I find it hard as is to find the podcast that I want to watch because of the generic/indistinguishable thumbnails, and I don’t think the channel really needs mixed content which is better off staying in the main channel.
Ps4 pro launch price: £400 Series s launch price: £250 And we haven't even scratched the surface of its next gen capabilities. Once AMD fidelityFX or Microsoft directML based upscaling comes out it will be a serious competitor to the bigger consoles. 60 fps gaming on a budget. Keep in mind an xbox controller alone is £50 so you're essentially paying £200 for the console. Insane value.

DF also mentions multiple times it runs in 2160p native in quality mode on the PS5. NX gamer also mentions its 2160p checkerboard rendering in performance mode and is also mentioned by Crystal Dynamics themselves in their reply to him.
You should try last of us 2. Totally realistic how girls or women and men are able to mow down hundreds of people with no training. At least she supposed to be one of the greatest assassin/spy of all time and lives in a universe with super powers. Tomb raider is super realistic as is gears and call of duty. They’re games. They’re meant for us to suspend our disbelief and just enjoy them.
Its alright. If your thinking of getting it, wait a year and see what the state is like with the game then. Pros: good turn of your brain gameplay Heroes feel unique Cons: repetitive with a lack of enemy variety, mission design and locations Heroes are boring for the first few levels. Story is rushed, more focused on being able to play coop rather than having engaging missions like the A day one. If they keep supporting the game then I'm sure it'll be less repetitive and such but that's an if. Hold off till 2022 is your best move really imo
I own a PS5, series X, and a switch. The only console i play on is my series X with gamepass ultimate. The Dualsense controller is cool, but the series X controller wins by comfort and 40+ hours of battery life. I like the smaller size of the series X controller. And i hate the thumbsticks on the ps5 are in the middle of the controller. The thumbsticks on the Xbox controller feels so much better. Smart Delivery, VRR, quick resume, 1440P, auto hdr, fps boost, bigger SSD, storrage upgrade posible. It is all missing on the ps5. If i have to choose between the 2, i Will sell my ps5 and keep my series X. Comming from a PS4 pro. Iam not a fanboy, i like Both systems. But the Series X wins this gen. If you have 500 spend it on the series X. Sorry for my english 😉 and with the newest upgrade we have Dolby vision gaming on the Series X 💪🏼
I have both, dualsense is so much better(features, latency) if you want play asymetric on PlayStation, buy a nacon controler. Vrr coming this month on ps5. SSD storage upgrade this spring and so much better (multi capacity and price). 1440 output ? Less than 1% player care about, you have to play with 4k tv. Fps boost automatic on ps5, without cut of resolution like Xbox séries. Quick resume doesn't work. Games file size are smaller on ps5 so much capacity storage. No dolby vision on séries, it will just be hgig like alpha xbox report to Forbes. Do you know dolby Vision is 12bit, when série x is only rgb 8bit 4:2:0 in 4k ? (Hdtvtest chanel). Hgig is a setting include in good tv and compatible PS5. Xbox has no good exclusive new games, look metacritic, that's yellow, many green new PS5 games. Xbox just good to run retro gaming, bad 2016 br player, bad picture quality(colors, black levels, hdr, chroma) because of bad vidéo output (hdtvtest chanel for evidence). Shady comparison, every time ign pointed out short comings on ps5, they showed XBSX in the video and every time ign pointed out pluses in XBSX they showed ps5 in the video. Ign seemed to want to go at a scrambled pace in trying to explain these tests to slightly confuse viewers to ps5 advantage. He never gave any console a win. NX gamer is not a fanboy. Xbox Series X version is clearly the better looking one. But he was trying to get to the bottom of why they chose checkerboard rendering on ps5 and he came to a clear conclusion in my opinion due to development time and ps5 inheriting the pro's checkerboard solution. When the UI gets that blurry look it's unacceptable and it could of been better no matter if it happened on the Series S version. He would of done the same if it was the other way around and they chose checkerboard for the Series X. A lot of fanboys want a " win " for their piece of plastic but I don't think that's what these performance reviews are about. I'm pretty confident if the developers had the time and money both the series x and ps5 versions would of looked a lot better. No one is disputing that the Series X is more powerful. Just very obvious ps5 could looked a lot better with a native resolution than a checkerboard one. It wouldn't of hit the same high resolution probably as the series x but it would of been a lot closer than it looks now.

The thing that’s really got me about this game is implementing a whole stealth mechanic that they literally used for one single mission. It would be so cool if we could get some black widow or Hawkeye stealth missions in the future.

I didn’t know why, but I found myself not minding the 30 fps while playing it on ps5. I also had it on quality mode for the ps4 version of the game too. When I played on ps4 pro I had a clear preference to 60fps mode tho.

Besides that. Story is great. Gameplay is awesome. There’s a lot of exploration in the combat so it doesn’t get old for a long time. And ALMOST all of the DLC characters are awesome. Blank Panther is definitely the most fun of the 4.
Get it if you love Marvel. Do not get for Spider-Man. Especially get it if you like games you can just drop into for a couple hours without a lot of commitment - like COD. It’s so much fun.
This is a very poorly checkerboard solution.

Great video but I think that the important bit of missing information was an explanation of what Checkerboard rendering actually is.
Checkerboard rending here halves the native resolution on the vertical axis and then scales to the full resolution. So the PS5 tops out at 1920x2160 as instead of the full 3840x2160 native resolution used by Series X. As you can imagine, that leaves a lot of headroom to hit that 60fps target to keep up with Series X.
I think most people will watch this thinking "Why did the devs use checkerboarding when it doesn't need it?". Thus requesting for fixes from the dev team as though it is a bug.
What I find strange is that the Series X is ~20% more powerful than PS5 but here the resolution difference is much much bigger than that.

You are correct about the resolution differences, the input resolution on ps5 (1920x2160) is half that of the series X when they are both outputting 3840x2160.
I agree with NX Gamer that the ps5 could have and should have targeted native 3200x1800 and scaled down from there. For whatever reason, whether it was to claim 4k resolution or more likely just time constraints, the developers went for a checkerboard implementation.
I don't think checkerboard rendering has a place this generation for any new games developed if the console can reach 3200x1800 or even down to 2560x1440 natively. Checkerboard might look better at the lower bounds in a static image but in motion it tends to have distracting artifacts.
What might be a better option over traditional checkerboard would be temporal injection. I'd like to learn more about the magical and mystical temporal injection insomniac uses but I can't find much information about it online!
And then there is nividia's DLSS and eventually Amd's FidelityX super resolution which are going to make it even harder for NX Gamer and others to compare reconstructed images to their native counterparts.

Crystal Dynamics made some major improvements but the next time a superhero game is being developed leveling up shouldnt be in the game because they're already superheroes. It's not like the gamer is creating a superhero. Allowing the superhero to just be the superhero would improve the vision and focus of future superhero games.

If they just made a straightforward either open world game or linear story without the live service model it might have been decent. They could have added a couple of heroes as DLC or just made a sequel with different heroes and villains. The live service model ruined it from the beginning of development. Just look at the reception games like Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales got in comparison.

Weird that the checkboard resolution in this game on PS5 has more issues than other games with checkboard resolutions on the system. Miles Morales, for example, looks super clean in its performance mode, which uses checkerboard 4K. No flickering at all to speak of and text is razor sharp.

The image quality on XSX is superior. This is because it used a native 4k resolution whereas the PS5 used a reconstructed 4k resolution.
The framerate on the PS5 and XSX was near identical.
Compared to last gen the game runs at a largely smooth 60fps on the XSX, PS5 and XSS. This is because of the more powerful CPU's in these new consoles.
On last gen you are either stuck at a smooth 30fps or a stuttery and inconsistent 40-60.
Fair answer but I’ll add if you have a next gen system you’re getting games close to each other in quality and fps as well as resolution so stop reading articles if they work you up because as a layman you aren’t going to notice almost any of what they are talking about. There are two games here. An EXCELLENT single player, character-driven story, and a divisive multiplayer (which you can play on your own fully if you prefer. I know I do).
The combat system is deep and a lot of fun. The multiplayer missions are what gets repetitive quickly.

It's purely semantics, output resolution is not the same as input resolution or even perceived resolution.
Here he was referring to output resolution.
Checkerboard will often be a higher output resolution but it has a lower input resolution and perceived resolution in this case.
But what’s the answer? Is 4K native equal to checkerboard? Because if so Quantum Break is waiting on all the apologies from people who didn’t understand that it was actually the same as any other 1080p game. I have a 65” Sony 4K and need to sit very close, closer than comfortable to really spot the differences. I’m an Xbox guy but from what I can tell PS5 runs games beautifully and all the toxicity comes from fanboys and sites like ign that don’t care what they write as long as it causes the fanboys to go into attack mode. It’s like how the news plays up any blacks vs whites or women vs men or cops vs criminals stuff that happens and never ever clarifies the fact that most of those situations are either being deliberately manufactured to cause unrest and that the cases that are legit are the exception not the rule. Not trying to throw in politics but that’s how these websites have trained us to react to positive/negative news about “our” console. And the real divide in this country and the world is the wealthy vs everyone else. They control almost everything. Just look at how they manipulated GameStop stock because retail investors caught on to their money printing machine and found ways to use it against them. In that arena btw just read that we the people actually have more buying power than wealthy investors and everyone else except hedge funds and they don’t usually do as many underhanded things, at least over the short term. We gamers and us, the disenfranchised lower and the barely there middle class, need to work together to improve all our lives and as far as gaming that means putting our money where our mouth is. If I’m a ps guy I’m refusing to buy $60 remakes and generation upgraded games. On Xbox I have gamepass but if I didn’t I would refuse to give them the same credit for mediocre games they say are AAA than I would for gears or halo. I know games are expensive to make but if Xbox hadnt done what they have as far as buying studios and offering ea play, gamepass, day and date exclusives and Bethesda then I may have been almost forced over to PlayStation. Also getting “the Show” was a huge get in my opinion. You now have every major sport on your system on the newest or second newest release just with gamepass.

Checkerboard 4k generally looks around 1800p rather than 2160p. A natively rendered 4k will always look better than checkerboard rendered 4k.
Some checkerboard games look better than other checkerboard games. This one looks particularly bad on PS5, probably because of the dynamic resolution.

I'm taking about the editing style and specifically the fast cuts, not the context. So with CB PS5 is 1280 x 1440 (equivalent to 1018p) native lowest (checkerboarded to 1440p), but without CB it should be 1440p lowest? PS5 should get free doubled performance according to him.

I can't wait till these games are next gen only so the ps5 can slaughter the seriesX straight away. remedy did the ps5 right, they used it's power and the ps5 had better performance and better raytracing plus better graphics. these lazy scum at crystal dynamics just used the ps4 pro version and gave it some bell and whistles on the ps5
exactly control showed what a proper ps5 version does to the seriesX advantages for the ps5 everywhere hell the ps5 even had advantages over pc in raytracing. all these ps4 pro ports over to the ps5 are sickening
@@ashtonjackfanny Control isn't a strong argument against the XSX, the game ran essentially the same as PS5. The PS5 suffered gamma issues and the XSX had an I/O related bug. Then when digital foundry done their Raytracing test in Control's photomode the XSX had a 16% advantage over the PS5.

Once AMD fidelityFX or Microsoft directML based upscaling comes out it will be a serious competitor to the bigger consoles. 60 fps gaming on a budget. Keep in mind an xbox controller alone is £50 so you're essentially paying £200 for the console. Insane value.

And according to your logic, PS5 digital only cost £300, so for extra £100 you get a superior console with more critically acclaimed games available

Gamepass gets EA games and xbox games day 1. They just added all the big Bethesda games. You can get gamepass for around the same price for 3 years and it includes xbox live. Theres a reason everyone is praising gamepass in the gaming media right now. Theres no competition and the value its adding is insane. They just announced 20 more indie games that are coming day 1 to gamepass today and on gaming forums like resetera the indie games fans are going crazy with the news because the value is insane. The reality is you get more games with a series s and gamepass for around the same price as a PS5 digital.

Yikes folks... just stick with VGC and DF clearly NX has no clue what he’s talking about. Not one time does the PS5 hit 2160p native.
DF also mentions multiple times it runs in 2160p native in quality mode on the PS5. NX gamer also mentions its 2160p checkerboard rendering in performance mode and is also mentioned by Crystal Dynamics themselves in their reply to him.

You should try last of us 2. Totally realistic how girls or women and men are able to mow down hundreds of people with no training. At least she supposed to be one of the greatest assassin/spy of all time and lives in a universe with super powers. Tomb raider is super realistic as is gears and call of duty. They’re games. They’re meant for us to suspend our disbelief and just enjoy them.

Cons: repetitive with a lack of enemy variety, mission design and locations
Heroes are boring for the first few levels.
Story is rushed, more focused on being able to play coop rather than having engaging missions like the A day one.
If they keep supporting the game then I'm sure it'll be less repetitive and such but that's an if. Hold off till 2022 is your best move really imo

I own a PS5, series X, and a switch. The only console i play on is my series X with gamepass ultimate. The Dualsense controller is cool, but the series X controller wins by comfort and 40+ hours of battery life. I like the smaller size of the series X controller. And i hate the thumbsticks on the ps5 are in the middle of the controller. The thumbsticks on the Xbox controller feels so much better. Smart Delivery, VRR, quick resume, 1440P, auto hdr, fps boost, bigger SSD, storrage upgrade posible. It is all missing on the ps5. If i have to choose between the 2, i Will sell my ps5 and keep my series X. Comming from a PS4 pro. Iam not a fanboy, i like Both systems. But the Series X wins this gen. If you have 500 spend it on the series X. Sorry for my english 😉 and with the newest upgrade we have Dolby vision gaming on the Series X 💪🏼

Shady comparison, every time ign pointed out short comings on ps5, they showed XBSX in the video and every time ign pointed out pluses in XBSX they showed ps5 in the video. Ign seemed to want to go at a scrambled pace in trying to explain these tests to slightly confuse viewers to ps5 advantage. He never gave any console a win. NX gamer is not a fanboy. Xbox Series X version is clearly the better looking one. But he was trying to get to the bottom of why they chose checkerboard rendering on ps5 and he came to a clear conclusion in my opinion due to development time and ps5 inheriting the pro's checkerboard solution. When the UI gets that blurry look it's unacceptable and it could of been better no matter if it happened on the Series S version. He would of done the same if it was the other way around and they chose checkerboard for the Series X. A lot of fanboys want a " win " for their piece of plastic but I don't think that's what these performance reviews are about. I'm pretty confident if the developers had the time and money both the series x and ps5 versions would of looked a lot better. No one is disputing that the Series X is more powerful. Just very obvious ps5 could looked a lot better with a native resolution than a checkerboard one. It wouldn't of hit the same high resolution probably as the series x but it would of been a lot closer than it looks now.
