The Revo 7 would be a lot of fun for recreational shooting and hunting small game. I would imagine that it could also take down a deer or wild boar as long as you didn’t hit a large bone. I’m just not sure if it would penetrate the rib bones. I like to see it tested on something equaling the density of rib bones of deer and boars.
Well, I know archery hunting regulations for deer in AL, had a minimum of 48 lbs draw weight for recurve/long/compound bows. At least this was the standard regulation in the 1990's. Crossbows were illegal to hunt with until just a few years ago unless you had a specific type of handicap. I have no clue as to what the current crossbow regulation is, regarding the minimum draw weight for hunting deer. I would check your local state laws or the state where you are hunting. Cheers
@1369usmc I’d never actually hunt large game with that little thing. I don’t think it would penetrate the rib bones. I do believe a bolt shot from it with a broadhead would kill large game as long as it didn’t hit bone.
As a general rule of thumb, responsible hunters in the USA generally advise a minimum of 15 ft/b K/e for small game and 25 ft/lb for medium game. This would make it fine for one but insufficient for the other with the 90 and 120 lb limbs, at the given bolt weight.
I remember commenting in like 2010 and asking Joerg to make an assasins creed type wrist dart gun or a spearfishing gun type catapult. I was a tourguide in Rome then and been spearfishing. @@Buceesfanmaarten it could well be in fairness and I love the magazine design but the limbs are less powerful and the power stroke is shorter at 5.5' (Vs 7.5 for the Adder). Either way this looks like a great crossbow but I wouldn't consider it over the Adder (hopefully a future iteration of the Adder will come with a similar magazine though.
I think different class. Cobra Siege is large, Adder is medium, New Interceptor is medium/Small, this is small (replacing the Vlad and other pistol crossbows)
@@carlmarkwyatt Yeah that's fair. This one seems superior for self defense but the Adder is likely still better for hunting because of the extra draw weight.
The factory bolts are the weak spot of these repeating crossbows. Better quality, more reliable, and only 1/3 of the cost. Same goes for the string. There are cheaper and more reliable options. Gogun is overpriced and has the lowest quality parts/accessories.

Looks like a good upgrade from the Stinger II I got some years ago. More power, larger magazine and far easier to cock. You mention the accuracy should be improved as well with these thinner carbon arrows; I'd like to see a side by side comparison with one of the older repeating crossbows.
As an owner of 1 Siege, 2 Adders and 1 Vlad I say that IMO the look is very nice but totally secondary. The arming mechanism seems nice, but clearly it is all to be seen its functionality and stress resistance. Moreover this new xbow uses some all new non-standard parts (the bow and the bolts), so it has NO back compatibility with the other EK products. At least Steambow had the decency to make its M10 model fully usable with the modular bases of its old products. Last but no least, at 400+ buck the price is (always IMO, obviously) simply crazy. Ah, BTW, how was the story that the Mey Interceptor was a superior Xbow because it has a bottom-feed magazine?🤔
@@nyquil762 It depends by your exact use: every model and brand has its advantages and disadvantages. Personally, as a general concept, as now I'm partial to Steambow retrocompatibility & modular design and use of "non-proprietary" bolts. But if I must advise about a single specific xbow, my preferences still go to the EK Adder...
Unless I’m wrong somehow, it looks like there is no way to just drop in a single arrow on the fly if need be, is that right? That would be my only hesitation with this design, as I would prefer a true defense tool to be able to be loaded as quickly as possible if all the cartridges were empty.
Looks spectacular and overengineered in the best way with those captive pins and interesting cycling method and even side rails for a tactical flashlight or laser aiming device. You Germans really know what is the good stuff!😅
Hello Joerg, 13:18 as the saying goes - there is no such thing as can't. If the path for the pump action is long enough and correctly geared, it should work just as easily with a pump action mechanism. It may be that a pumping distance of 30 or 40 cm is necessary for this, but it should definitely be possible with the right gearing. It's just up to someone who has to build it to confirm this thesis 😎
I was just looking at the bolt package... 35eur for 10 with "This product is protected by patents."... so yeah... no. They will charge silly amounts for bolts.
@@lvcas5481 It was a bad idea, the magazine entering only on the right side doesn't make the crossbow truly ambidextrous. In fact, the idea of the magazine entering on the side seems awkward to load.
If you hold the trigger with your right hand you can only load and remove it from the left from what im seeing. From the right you have that little rail for a tactical flashlight that stands in the way. Its not the best way to load a magazine but in general that crossbow looks like it could be used much faster with its shooting
It does have an anti dry fire system. You can switch the right and left picatinny rail. One is longer and serves as the guide for the magazine. If you switch the longer one to the left side, you can insert the magazine from the right.
Will a similar magazine concept come to the Adder? I got the original Adder, then got the 7-bolt replacement magazine. I skipped over the recent ones because the reloading clip works fine - but if a magazine option like this comes along, I would have to upgrade. Especially because then, both the red dot and the laser sight would fit easily on the picatinny rail.
Very beautiful pistol crossbow! For real!! But 250 fps is still too slow imo. I believe 280/290 fps is a must (like the adder, even if it has shorter power stoke) otherwise you can’t even hunt with it, and spend 700-800 euros for the whole kit just for recreational purpose on your backyard is not affordable imo. Are you planning to release stronger limbs??? (like the 190 venom extreme for the adder) In this case I will be really glad to give you my money! Having said that, Joerg you are a total genius and deserve the best!! Cheers
@ I would love too, buy i have realized there might be a problem. The increase in fps between 90 and 120 pounds was just 15, so i don’t know how much an hypothetical 150 or more could increase the final fps. I believe that with this short power stroke with 120 pounds the pistol might have already reached his limit, considering that a higher poundage would be also really difficult to cock. Not sure, hope i’m wrong. 🤞
Thx Doc. Great video. And Awesome product. I do like all the new features it has compared to the COBRA RX ADDER. But I still love the 7.5 bolt size. any info regarding the factory specs mentioning kinetic energy? Different bolts might be a reason for numbers being a bit higher - if they are consistent with different models
Absolutely not. With field points, you can achieve flight stability with no fletching. In fact, a properly tuned bow will be tuned with field points and no fletching. However, after tuning, when adding a broadhead (especially two blade broadheads), you want to add fletchings to maintain the stability achieved by the bareshaft tuning. The fletchings only help to maintain stability during times of turbulence during flight. Two fletchings are ample for stability on many properly tuned bows. Edited to add that three fletcbings will mask an un tuned bow by "correcting" the flaws in the tuning process. However an experienced archer can watch the arrow fly and know that the bow is not properly tuned.
@aaronbest747 at long range the arrow will have more time to "experience" turbulence. Thus you absolutely want fletching for all ranges of shooting. My point is that the stability is not "created" by the fletching. It is created by the tuning of the bow. The fletcbings should only be maintaining that stability. Always shoot with fletched arrows. A short/super high speed bolt also doesn't require as much surface area of fletching to maintain the stability as a relatively slow moving wobbly arrow does.
The 30lb bow would be excellent for carp! It would be a single shot but that’s okay! Just going to need fishing tips! The different bow sizes makes this bow very versatile! Looks like a 10 to me! Will they be available in America perhaps on amazon?

Yes, that alone gives me a pass. I've invested a lot in quality fibre bolts, so won't go for a new platform with proprietary bolts. Maybe ok for a newcomer, but definitely not for a pistol crossbow vet.
One thing I didn't like about the Adder was the cocking leaver was constantly "loose" and slightly hanging down, looks like this is the same. really affects the feel of the crossbow. Quality is important.
That is simply a safety feature. You have to press the cocking lever UP for unlocking it, against the tension of the bow. This way you can’t unintentionally open it.
This is cool. I do already have a vlad and adder fully customised. Unfortunately this design has been done a few times already, even 3d print plans online - but this has a proper trigger system and obviously the detachable magazine. As an ek archery owner of 2 of there products and happy with them (Although vlad can be problematic with the 90ib lim) - Unfortunately i will pass on this one; well not just because this has been done already (although probably not as good standard and with the typical cheap steambow trigger system as opposed to a proper gated system) - but my heart is set on the MEY INTERCEPTOR. that thinh really IS a game changer. I just really hope when its finally shipped (December for me) that it is good quality and not a dog, because it really looks like something special. Sorry EK, this is just an old design (good design tho) with a detachable magazine and proper trigger system... however anyone gonna say how gorgeous it looks though?
i too prefer the mey interceptor, but this one seems faster to fire and more compact. buy the mey has underloading 18 shot magazine design which is more appealing. @@ryublade8184 yea it ain't bad. Its just nothing new. Only the magazine that seemed like an after thought as everyone is doing it now. That's very important to me) - yeah this design is just old. Its been done a few times and can even 3d print one off line in that type. Its gorgeous looking, and nothing inherently wrong with it... and as an EK fan; I was kinda hoping they were gonna do an improved interceptor or something; maybe electric motor cockin so it is fully automatic. There's already a guy who's made a prototype of that. Fires 2 shots in 1.5 seconds and battery cocks 100 times.

@@StringerBell Exactly! That was a dumb move from Ek archery. I can understand they had problems with loading and such with standard bolts, but, boy, if they have decided to go with the standard bolts, I'll buy two of REVO's... Now, I'll pass.
@@orderofmagnitude-TPATP Yea I was going to immediately buy one, I literally opened the gogun website before the video ended, but when I heard that the bolts are proprietary that stopped me in my tracks. I'll pass. Hope in the future they develop one with standard 6.3 inch bolts.
Thank you for all of time in sharing these things !! You are so appreciated here in bennington vermont J. . We love everything from a slingshot to cannons, all in between as well . Thank you !!!
Cheers
Ha hA NO PLEASE it could also take down polar bears and blue whales
@1369usmc I’d never actually hunt large game with that little thing. I don’t think it would penetrate the rib bones. I do believe a bolt shot from it with a broadhead would kill large game as long as it didn’t hit bone.
As a general rule of thumb, responsible hunters in the USA generally advise a minimum of 15 ft/b K/e for small game and 25 ft/lb for medium game.
This would make it fine for one but insufficient for the other with the 90 and 120 lb limbs, at the given bolt weight.
I bet a red dot with a 3x magnifier would be the ideal setup for that thing.
I've been following your work for years. Well done sir!
I remember commenting in like 2010 and asking Joerg to make an assasins creed type wrist dart gun or a spearfishing gun type catapult. I was a tourguide in Rome then and been spearfishing. He replied and said it would be easy to make but the channel is mainly sling shot based. Ha. I read this reply in st peters square. And probably replied like with a thanks. Glad to see the man flex his genius and looking so well
This looks like a brilliant piece of kit if not an actual replacement for the Adder.
I was gonna say, seems like this made the Adder obsolete.
@@Buceesfanmaarten it could well be in fairness and I love the magazine design but the limbs are less powerful and the power stroke is shorter at 5.5' (Vs 7.5 for the Adder). The Adder can also go upto 190ib limbs whereas the Revo 7 appears to be limited to 120ibs which may be the result of having less leverage on the clocking lever.
This looks good but I don't like the model specific bolt.
I'm still happy with my 180lb Gen3 Adder
Not gonna be beaten imo.
The factory bolts are the weak spot of these repeating crossbows. I have an Adder, but after an original bolt malfunction (busted a hole in the magazine and gogun wants $300 for just that) I only shoot bolts I make. Better quality, more reliable, and only 1/3 of the cost. Same goes for the string. There are cheaper and more reliable options. Gogun is overpriced and has the lowest quality parts/accessories.
@@richyquarter7244 never had a misfire. I check all bolt flights/heads/mountings before loading.
Yeah 5mm bolt is probably due to space limited in the pistol so they had no choice.. if they fit industrial standard 6.2 then it will be called revo4 instead

Shooting crossbows over 10 years, so yes, checking my bolts is a 2nd nature. However, the cheaply made factory arrows looked/feeled OK, but the shaft broke in half in the magazine, so I don't trust them anymore. That's a cool new repeating mag fed pistol crossbow, which is the evolution of the game. My only problem is the, yet again, proprietary bolt sizes.
After already invested in the Adder platform and Steambow Stinger II, I wouldn't go for another platform that requires specific bolts. Maybe a good option for a newcomer in the sport.
Your right on about the bolt size issue. I love the 7.5 bolt size. And there's a video that shows you how to make your own bolts. Just using 18' inch carbon fiber or aluminum arrows. @@kaasmeester5903 Stinger 2 still rocks in my opinion. I don’t see enough reasons to upgrade personally.. plus Stinger 3 is in development
Om new tho these. Which one is the best value in your opinion. Thanks in advance.
@@nyquil762 It depends by your exact use: every model and brand has its advantages and disadvantages. Personally, as a general concept, as now I'm partial to Steambow retrocompatibility & modular design and use of "non-proprietary" bolts. Hello Joerg,
13:18 as the saying goes - there is no such thing as can't.
Joerg when are you going to make a bullpup crossbow?
Any chance it will get cleared for the Canadian market?
I was just looking at the bolt package... 35eur for 10 with "This product is protected by patents."... so yeah... no. They will charge silly amounts for bolts.
I like the side loading mag , allowing for scope mounting.
Très belle Arbalètes .Fan from Morocco
Does the REVO7 have an anti-dry fire system? Can the magazine be placed on the right and left or just on the right?
Looks like its only possible on the right and yes it has an anti dry fire system. You cant load it without an arrow inside
@@Slingshotchannel That's what I noticed picatinny rail

Will this one come to the UK ?? The UK shop has been slow to catch up historically ??
Cheers
I also think same as you it will be great if it can have 190 lbs limb then imagine how powerful this crossbow can be 🔥🔥🔥
@ I would love too, buy i have realized there might be a problem. 🤞
Joerg Sprave , can I get one for hunting large game? These bolts are too short for deer or bigger game?

any info regarding the factory specs mentioning kinetic energy? Different bolts might be a reason for numbers being a bit higher - if they are consistent with different models
2:19 don't you need 3 fins on an arrow or cross bow bolt to achieve flight stability???
@@averageoutdoorsman9342 even at long range?
@aaronbest747 at long range the arrow will have more time to "experience" turbulence. Thus you absolutely want fletching for all ranges of shooting. My point is that the stability is not "created" by the fletching. It is created by the tuning of the bow. The fletcbings should only be maintaining that stability. Always shoot with fletched arrows.
A short/super high speed bolt also doesn't require as much surface area of fletching to maintain the stability as a relatively slow moving wobbly arrow does.
Could you hunt with this in a SHTF case? And do you think the bolts will become more available or cheaper soon?
The 30lb bow would be excellent for carp! It would be a single shot but that’s okay! Just going to need fishing tips!
The different bow sizes makes this bow very versatile! Looks like a 10 to me! Will they be available in America perhaps on amazon?

Yes, that alone gives me a pass. I've invested a lot in quality fibre bolts, so won't go for a new platform with proprietary bolts. Maybe ok for a newcomer, but definitely not for a pistol crossbow vet.
@@axistec agreed
Oh okay, so that's why you released the Interceptor on 6 month pre-order.
