    Great breakdown! One niggle, the IIIg was not discontinued when the M3 was introduced, they were manufactured concurrently from 1954 until 1960.

      Yes, you’re right. Leica offered both cameras side by side for a few years. Thanks for commenting- always appreciated

    That was a total life saver - I knew my late grandfather had a Leica III: but could not work out the model.
    So I have a very satisfying to hold LIIIc with a Summicron F5 lens.

    Awesome Info cheers. I bought my first leica a Q2 last year and absolutely adore the thing, but I still enjoy shooting film, I really fancied the M2 but even more I fancy one of the screw mount models, the 111f or G are looking favorable.

    for the fixed lens leica 1s some of them had a vertical rangefinder that was not coupled with the lens

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  Рік тому +1

      Yes, Leica did make rangefinders that could be mounted in the camera’s accessory shoe. There were many versions - the FODIS was one of the more common. It was an accessory and not part of the camera.

    Hello, I have a Leica that, based on my research online, has a serial number indicating it's a iif, but it has the flash sync dial and the red dial. What could this be? An error in the serial number, or is it possibly from the early transition to the iiif, or could it have been returned to the factory to have these extras added? Thank you in advance, excellent video!

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  Місяць тому +1

      A IIf has flash sync so I think it’s correct. This is one of the more unusual variants I didn’t cover in the video. A IIf is a IIIf without slow speeds.

    • @Odins.Valhall
      @Odins.Valhall Місяць тому

      but it is also possible that it has been rebuilt, there are many variants e.g. from iii to iiif and so on.

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  Місяць тому +1

      It’s always possible. But why dismiss the most obvious and probable explanation?

  • @joelbarto1103
    @joelbarto1103 6 місяців тому

    Do some of the III c's come without the slow shutter speed dial? Mine has a one piece top, but it doesn't have the slow speed dial in the front.

  • @oldgittarist

    Actually the M3 came out in 1954 but the IIIg was produced from 1956-60.

    Very useful. The nuances are very small, but this helped a lot.
    How can we identify pre-war post-war Leica Is that do not have any viewfinder / rangefinder?

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  11 місяців тому

      I only covered the main Leica models. There are resources online that’ll allow you to identify the model from the serial number.

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  4 місяці тому

      It was quite common for earlier cameras to be converted so the numbers don’t always match Leica’s production records.

    I recently came into IIIc. It’s in fairly good shape. It needs some repairs and new body cover. The 5cm lens is in need of a cleaning. Would you recommend anyone here in the states that could do this for me ? Thanks, Rick…..🇺🇸

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  Рік тому

      Talk to Tamarkin cameras. The cost of repair might exceed the camera’s value but an overhauled Leica will serve faithfully for decades.

      They are very simple shutters. Operation is similar to most other contemporaneous leaf lenses.

    I have my father's 1936 Model IID
    It still works, and the shutter sounds like a Rolls Royce car door: a satisfying clunk!
    It's never been speed checked, but I doubt it's far off spec.
    Unfortunately it's now worthless, my Watchmaker father fitted and synced a flash connection... a clever engineer, useless with investments 😂
    What would I rather have? A £1k camera, or a working piece of history that I took an award winning photie with 40 odd years ago, that my father used, and I still possess (still works, but like everyone else I'm now digital)

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for commenting. Yes, many Leicas had flash sync added. At the time it was a very sensible thing to do and is part of the camera’s history.

    • @iandeare1
      @iandeare1 Рік тому +1

      I think you may misunderstand: this was not a factory adjustment, it was a clever, and he was a craftsman, but amateur finesse...
      I'm a craftsman in my own write (a multi-media journalist 😂 with a merit) who is really a violin maker (Luthier)
      Daddy Deare was a Watchmaker buggering about with cameras was an also ran (LOL 😂)

    Hello,
    The video is over a year ago, but I would like to point out that my iif has a shutter speed of 1/1000s, I now have the 9th edition of the pocket book in English and today I got the 7th edition on Ebay😁👌 which is in German. Thanks for the video.

    • @WorldwideCameraExchange
      @WorldwideCameraExchange  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes. Very early Leitz cameras had interchangeable but matched lenses. The 0 shows the mount is standardised.
