    Thin hair gal here.
I've researched for years for thin hair recommendations. I've stopped listening to influencers, but I do listen to 1 in particular who is a trichologist. ( they study hair so who better to listen to! ) One other person who specializes in hair who has intensly studied hair products and weight.
I also had my hair analyzed by Strands. That helped a LOT.
Here's a few things I have found that works:
    1. Use only volumizing products. No moisturizing ~NONE... it adds weight! Thin hair needs no weight.
    2. I use clips that have the rubber coating inside. Drawback is there's never really any that's pretty. Just basic, but they WORK.
    3. Oily hair more than likely means you're drying your hair out. It oils itself to fix itself. However, to solve this takes a lot of time and patience. And we all have to choose our battles, even if that means you wash your hair everyday. LOL So ic you don't have the time nor patience, hey...wash your hair! Lol
    4. Leave in conditioner is NO-NO. However, I did try a HIGHLY recommended one specifically for thin hair ~ Pureology Leave in Conditioner and it's PERFECT! And a little goes a long way. It also looks like your using 2 different Leave in conditioners. You may not think it but that's a lot of weight.
    5. Pantene 10 in 1 has been a game changer for me as well. Again, no weight.
My comment is purely advice. It's something I am passionate about. If I could go back in time, I'd do hair/skin care as a career. ( chose SAHM instead ) im 56 now and what most people comment on me the most is my hair. I know how frustrating thin hair is. But I know I'm doing something right because my hair analysis showed no damage! Cuticles looked perfect!
    Oh, and air dry too.🤗

Thank you for these great tips!! Is it Hair Analysis by Strands? And do you use the Pantene 10 in 1 shampoo or conditioner or both?

    • @apriljo1968
      @apriljo1968 Місяць тому +4

@gailots yes, hair analysis by Strands. It's put under a microscope!
Pantene, only the spray. The others in that line have been highly recommended, but I have not used them.
I do use the Dove 10 in 1 hair mask occasionally that is like a DREAM! One minute mask that makes my hair feel like silk and no added weight!
Every 3rd shampoo, I use the mask and OGX Biotin & Collagen shampoo. ( purple bottle )
      Be careful with protein stuff.
I use the Strands shampoo/conditioner and I'm VERY happy with it. Its affordable if you dont shampoo every day. It's made FOR ME and my hair.
I use the OGX and Dove sparingly cause personally, I think your hair gets used to things and products don't work as well. No theory on that.....just personal opinion. 😉
As you can see, I can go on and on about hair!!!🤣🤣

Good morning, Nikki! I have those same hot rollers, purchased based on the suggestion of my hairdresser. I use them regularly and travel with them too! In between session with the rollers, I sleep in pincurls. And you are absolutely right in saying they are a game changer. It brings me great joy to see you enjoying and luxuriating in the beautiful hair God gave you. As a fellow recipient of thin hair, I am still working on it. Wishing you a blessed Christmas and joyful New Year in your new home!

Hello Nikki, Having babies in my 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, I never thought about the thickness of my hair. BUT, then around 50, it started falling out more and thinning more. I tried all the products but nothing helped until I use Monat IR Clinical thickening shampoo and conditioner. I also added Nutrafol supplements and wow what a difference these 2 products have made for me! I don’t sell these…ha, ha, just thought I’d add that.

I also have fine (thin) hair, and I have learned to see it as a positive. This is because it is so easy to wash and dry it quickly and we learn to look after whatever we have. You are right we should be grateful for what we have anyway. One question I do have, is your hair coloured or is it your natural colour? I have watched you for a long time and never heard you mention that you colour your hair. It is a beautiful colour whatever you do. Love the picture of your grandmother. ❤

Nikki, my daughter is a hairdresser and says my hair is "so baby fine it's slippery," though I have a lot of it. I prefer hot rollers also. I used to have very long hair but as I aged it pulled my face down and looked stringy all the time. Mine is now about the length of yours and it is so much easier to curl and it stays looking nice all day. I try to avoid moisturizing products because they tend to weigh my hair down. In the dry winter I struggle with static in my hair so it's kind of hard to find a balance. Maybe a hair repair type shampoo would help. (My daughter says Pantene contains paraffin to make your hair look shiny and it's not a good product.)

Nikki, I'm a long time subscriber and I started following you after seeing your vlog about removing the hair extensions all those years ago.
I've never regretted following you, and, in fact, your channel is one of the very, very few that I will recommend to my sisters in Christ.
I, too, have been critical of myself over my thin hair, and finally decided to think about it the way you mentioned: thanking God that I even have any hair at all.
As I get older, it gets thinner, and after 3 bouts of Covid....well, I have a new normal.
I appreciate your honesty and your faithfulness!
    Praise God!!!!

I too have very oily and thin hair and I tried the not shampooing every day and was miserable. I wash mine every night and let it air dry because heat causes a lot of damage to mine and I only use it for special occasions, so I do use a dry shampoo in the morning to help combat some of the oil but lately I have been really unhappy with it. I think it’s the shampoo I’ve been using, so I may try what you talked about in your video to see if that will help! I see all the cute hairstyles and know that there is no possible way I can achieve that and it bothers me a lot, but like you, I just need to learn to be myself and be grateful for what I have been blessed with!

I think your hear looks always very elegant and beautiful. Your haircolor is vibrant and the whole ensemble so feminine and classic. So good to hear that you can feel confident in your own hair and embrace it as it is😊 I have had a quite thick hair (for a Scandinavian, as most of us have VERY thin hair) for the most of my life, but after my forties it has become thinner and much dryer, especially on the front. I also have quite a lot grey hair which both myself and my husband like, but thise silver strands are even drier and more vulnerable 😊 So, I try to be very gentle with my hair and that has helped some. Since my hair is so dry I do not have to wash it very often. I brush it very carefully with a boar bristle brush or a comb and during the night I gather it all on the top of my head with some small clips, so it wont get rubbed and tangled. That has actually helped a lot. I know this sounds crazy for the most people, but my best shampoo has been for the last 6 years ryeflour mixed with water, two washes with it, conditioner and a final rinse with cold water mixed with appleciderwinegar and rosemary or peppermint oil. I have sometimes gone back to regular shampoo, but the ryeflourmix is so much better for me so I keep coming back to it. Our water is very hard (has very much calcium in it) that the vinegar rinse is a must. If i miss it, my hair becomes terribly dry and frizzy, especially in winter. After my hair has dried I like to add a tiny drop if arganoil to the dry parts and that usyally does the job very well. Thank you for this happy video and interesting tips. It means so much to us viewers that you are yourself, that is why we keep coming back😊. Have a blessed weekend, Nikki!

It took me a long time to embrace the gift I was given as well. Better late than never :) I have very fine, thin hair and an oily scalp (I think my hair is a 1B). I found a hairstylist on a YT who talked about proper shampooing for this type of hair. I was surprised that it totally changed my hair for the better! Shampoo the scalp, NOT the hair. Then condition ONLY the mids, not the crown, then a leave-in conditioner for the mids, with some oil (like jojoba) for only the ends. A night-and day difference for me. My hair (which is now all silver/gray and down to my waist), has become fuller and less damaged. I even started getting compliments on it when I go out - never happened before! I would love to see you do different styles using different accessories.

Great vlog. I was born with a mane of hair. Still is even after yrs of drug treatments, that thin hair. But now it is more average thickness. My stylist says now that I am off one of the serious meds( liver issue). My thick mane will return. Side note I started turning silver at 21....never coloured my hair as its natural colour was near black ... Grow out would resemble a skunk, and that is not my look. So I embraced my silvering hair..... even in my 60s, I still receive lots of compliments on my hair ..no clue why.... but may be it is a gift from God, the silver, and the compliments. Embrace what you have....which you are doing beautifully.

Thank you for sharing this video today Nikki. I can relate to this very much. I too was very close to my grandmother, my mom and I lived with her. She developed alopecia and eventually had to wear a wig too, but she was always beautiful to me. I have thin hair myself, and have always tried to make it look as full as possible. Now, in my 50's, I have just cut several inches off and am just trying to embrace what the Lord has gifted me. It is still long enough for me to do up-do's and I am loving this season of my life. Thank you again for sharing your Grandmother, who was beautiful. I will always remember my "Gram" the same way!

Hi, Nikki. Thank you for your videos. Yes, you are correct to pronounce Elvive with the "veeve" sound. L'Oréal is a French origin brand. Garnier, which also falls under L'Oréal, has a conditioner called Garnier Loving Blends with Avocado Oil and Shea Butter that really helps with my hair's dry ends. It is a leave-in conditioner but does not weigh my fairly long fine hair down. Greetings from Susan in the Netherlands, and have a blessèd Christmas.

I think you do a wonderful job styling your hair. I also have thinning hair as I’m getting older. Iv learned to refrain from using shampoos with sulfates as that contributes to drying and breakage. I also started taking a gelatin supplement a couple years ago and I have new growth. I use a castor oil shampoo and conditioner which makes my hair shiny. I only shampoo once a week.😊

I have a long thick hair and I feel like hot rollers are the most underrated hair appliance. I struggle with finding large enough but I just found a set of 10 that are jumbo size which is perfect. They do not curl my hair but they do add a little body and shine and I believe they also close the hair shaft so my hair is much softer.

In my 20s, I've always had long hair - all the way down by back, long. Now that I'm in my mid-30s, my hair has thinned out and I've been contemplating cutting it to my collarbone, but I've always felt my identity was in my long hair. You've inspired me to cut it and be who I am (and need to be) in the present.

I really relate to changing hair styles after seeing yourself filmed. For years I had my hair in a beautiful chic french bob with very straight, thick bangs. I thought it looked great and people complemented my hair all the time. Then I took a dance class where at the end of each class, we were filmed doing the choreography so we could learn it each week. Seeing myself, not just straight on, but from all angles, and especially seeing how it moved on me was a game changer. I saw that it was a great hair style, but that it didn't suit me. It was too harsh -too angular -too edgy. The hair style wore me. I saw that with my softer features I needed softer hair. Do you know what a huge pain it was to grow out those major thick bangs!? Now I have long, flowy, hair with no bangs and it suits me so much better. Now people say that I look nice instead of saying they like my hair cut. It takes some time, but every woman needs to figure out the right hair for herself.

I loved hearing about you and your grandmother’s hair. My hair has always been difficult to manage. It’s kinky, frizzy, and fine. In the 80s I was the only one who could style it. I had big hair and it looked stylish and good. Once when I was at the hairdresser, a lady in the waiting room said, “You looked better when you walked in.” Haha. This was a much needed comment to me as it validated what I always knew, but others that I told didn’t understand. Today, I am 61. After COVID, I lost hair. I actually lost more on one side than the other. I do not feel feminine showing my bio hair. I now have a collection of European human hair wigs with some having a French top. All that means is that it’s almost impossible to detect if it’s a wig.
At home, I wear a 4” head band or a ball cap with my hair pulled back into a tiny pony tail about the circumference a small grape if that.
I love my wigs. They have been colored and cut to suit me.
It’s not the same as having one’s own hair, but I feel so blessed to be able to wear them.
May God bless all of you and may He keep you and your loved ones safe and healthy. ❤️✝️🙏🏻🕯🌹

I loved ur pics of your grammy. Thank you for your story on this topic. I have medium thin curly hair and it took forever to except it and learn how to work with it. I had a bit thicker hair before I had kids and I used to straighten it all the time cuz I liked it better that way. Since I have thinner hair now it shows more when I straighten it so I don't straighten it the same way or as often. I love how your hair looks when you use hot rollers and have been considering buying them to try. I also wash my hair everyday, I myself don't like the look or smell of day old hair. Even when I tried dry shampoo, it just didn't look or smell that great. I've just embraced my thin curly hair with some silver strands added in, and finally learned what products work best. However, I like to change it up "just cuz" sometimes 😊.

Your hair is lovely. It’s funny how we always want what we haven’t got. I have super thick hair and lots of it. Before I got an undercut it would take me over an hour to blow dry it. I was so against getting an undercut as I thought it looked horrible, especially when wearing hair up, but I never do that as my hair is too heavy, and now I have one there is no going back. Drying my hair takes half the time and my neck doesn’t get as hot.

Thanks for this great info. Your hair always looks so beautiful so I've been wondering what products you use.

I recently found the channel called Junstin Hickox. He is a hair stylist for 30 years. He has a lot of videos on thin hair. He said if you need to wash your hair everyday then do it! Each head of hair is different.

You said you just cut a couple inches off your hair... if you were to go somewhere to get it cut, how would you describe what you want to the hairstylist? I have very similar hair and have always styled it similarly, but I always get it cut differently because I never know how to explain what I want, and then I have to relearn how to style it because it's always different, or I chop it up myself and then have to deal with that mess. Please advise. Lol

I have struggled with thin hair my entire life and I still do. So many issues that were part of my childhood. I have stopped the extensions that are painful for me and I am trying to embrace my hair as it is. It's hard. I use sulfate free shampoo. It"s a product line called Divine.

I'm sorry. I know if mine thins much more, I'll likely go the route of my Grandma and invest in a couple of wigs 🎄
