Hey everyone! I've been dying to film this video and I'm so happy I finally did because it has been super fun and it leaves me with a memory of my room for when I move out :)
I live in a single room in the newly built c̓əsnaʔəm house (building 7) in the Totem Park Residence at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus. Need me to say, the experience in Totem Park has been far more incredible than I would've imagined!

hey girlll i’m from the us and am thinking about applying to ubc but I was just wondering if there’s a big party scene there? i know canadian universities aren’t that into partying like in the us but just wondering!!
alli nicole It’s okay here, it’s more up to you. There’s a lot of frat parties going on and clubbing downtown Vancouver but if you’re not into that, you can defiantly stay away from that! 😊

BWT, there is a bottle of apple cider vinegar on the top. What do you use it for?
jtcber Not in this building, no. The food is in the commons block which is like a 2 min walk away (I toured it in the video!)🙂 & I drink the apple cider vinegar!
Hoping to get accepted in UBC for 2022-23! What are the marks needed?
How different are the costs of attending UBC versus an in province university (I’m from the GTA and my other choice is UOttawa)? My family is concerned about the big transition and factor of flights and high costs associated with Vancouver in general. Is it easy to get a job on campus for first years?

Sun Shine It differs by which residence and room type you’re staying in! The costs also differ by program so you can defiantly look it up based on what your in :)

80% of ubc's dorms are single rooms, two single rooms share a bathroom in some cases, also first years are guaranteed a room

Pelin Tezcan Unfortunarly not! We don’t have access to a stove or oven but there is a microwave!! And the commons block serves food :)
Odd question for you: is the shower water warm? Are there times that it runs out of warm water?
haha it’s warm & I never experienced it running out of hot water☺️
Hi just curious, are there specific dorms for first years, second years etc? Do we get to choose and if a friend and I are applying and want to live together would that be possible.
Shania Joy yeah the first year dorm areas are orchard commons, totem park, and place vanier. You can request to live with a friend but it’s not a 100% guarantee. I.e my friends wanted to live in orchard together (separate rooms, shared washroom) but ended up getting a place in totem park with separate rooms (communal washroom) but they were right next to each other!
Im moving in in like a couple of weeks.. i was just wondering how you hung up your lights above the bed? Tryna do some do some shopping but i have no idea how to hang stuff up on the walls other than using command strips and tape or whatever... thank you for the room tour!!

I have been accepted for UBC 2021 winter session. Is Totem park, Place Vanier (basically the residences that have a shared accommodation) a year residence? Can I live there (if accepted) for a full year?
First year residences like Totem, Vanier & Orchard are all winter session which runs from September to April (non-renewable for new school years)!😊

Stuzzo2 There are meetings with your floormates from time to time but usually in the beginning of the year people hang in the lounge to socialize. You also meet alot of ppl when ur in the communal washrooms tbh lol

Would you say that sometimes it was inconvenient for you because of the communal washrooms? It’s usually really busy in the morning right? How do you cope with times of inconvenience?
I actually never thought that! I made so many memories in the washroom getting ready with people haha. It was never busy in the morning because everyone starts class at a different time and that applies for showering too - I never had to wait for a shower! Truthfully, I really enjoyed my first year residence and didn’t mind communal washrooms:)
Itsyvn thanks for replying! I actually got an offer from UBC and I’m just wondering how the communal washrooms are...how about when there’s like an emergency (like the worst of them all..period stains)? 😖
Chloe Yang haha based off of my experience, I got to know my floor pretty well that even if an emergency happened, I wouldn’t be too embarrassed!😅 With all this being said tho, I really lucked out getting a brand new building and really good floor mates for my first year so I’m just speaking on my experience:) Regardless, I do believe that being on residence in your first year is a huge part in making memories and friends!

Last question lol (sorry if I’m bothering you) because of the buildings being far from each other and there’s only 10 minutes between classes, do you have a bike or car or something because I heard on other videos of UBC Vancouver that it takes quite a bit to walk to your next class.
Chloe Yang not at all, don’t worry:) I had a class first year that was on the opposite side of campus and if I speed walk it was like 15 mins? A lot of the time, people are always scrambling in late so it’s all good!! :) (I don’t think people usually drive to get to classes but I do see a lot of bikers!)
Hi Yvonne, I was just wondering how many ppl usually share a communal bathroom? And how many ppl share a private bathroom? Also how many rooms on average are there on each floor? Thank you so much - I have tried to find this info on the UBC website but I couldn’t find it :, )
Elizabeth A umm based on my experience at this totem building - I think I was sharing with over 15 residents (and there were twice that amount on my whole floor). There are no private bathrooms for any first year residences but the closest one would be a shared (between u and ur roommate) in orchard! :)

Elizabeth A no worries! OH I see what you mean by the private washroom. Okay, hmm idk if they have that available all the time. I know that on my entire floor, only my side of the floor had it and we could have access to it but I’m sure it was prioritized for people with accessibility needs!
So, I wouldn’t take that private washroom into consideration if you’re thinking about residence choices. If you’re looking for a smaller group of people to share with, I’d definitely recommend orchard commons - since you only share between you and your roommate!😊

Hey I can’t remember off the top of my head cuz it’s with a meal plan too but you can defiantly check online! You can look at the different room types and residences and it gives you a price range! But all in all, I defiantly think it’s worth it! It’s so fun and you meet so many people:) A lot of my friends off campus have said they wished they lived on!

It depends on the building type! There are single and shared units and also single units with a shared washroom! Hope that makes sense :)

Hii! I think you might be looking at upper year housing! How it works it there’s first year housing & upper year housing.
• first year housing is for first years (totem park, orchard commons and place vanier - you can search those up!😊)
• upper year housing is for second year students and up (I think that’s why you saw the age requirement here). First year housing is guaranteed for first year students I believe, while you have to apply for upper year residence. After first year, some people like to live on campus but some still wanna stay on campus (like me haha).
