Boy did this bring back memories! My dad pitted for a friend that ran a modified at our local dirt track. Back when these were built in a barn or a friend's garage was the most fun time in racing. What a great find!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I am from the Uk and although I’ve never seen a real sprint, modified , midget oval car, I can’t get enough of them from this and earlier period. Would it be possible to show a few rear suspension and chassis details please
This was the typical supermodified from the 1950s. Some of these were raced well into the mid 1960s. This looks like a Buick V8 with 6 carbs before the Hilborn style fuel injection systems began being used. Almost all of these were home built.
It looks like this was recorded with an old video camera. Remember those with a video cassette tape & it made those squiggly lines when the tracking was off? 🤓
I don't know about "restoring it" but at least you could clean up and repair the chassis and brakes , and put an engine in it. I don't see any value in a dead and rusted corpse. Leave the body just like it is. Then you could drive it around the track with the other vintage survivors.

The ingenuity that went in to them is really fun to see!

Yes, it's a Buick Nailhead with a Mickey Thompson intake for the 6 carburetors.
Great find . Best era in racing imo.
Thanks, was really lucky to get the opportunity to buy it!
That is so freaking awesome. Thanks for sharing. Ron
We're just glad we were able to save it! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! I have a ready to race Mustang Mini Stock and a ton of parts for trade ! lol

🤣🤣🤣 yep, but it was just a dirty camera on a phone
Looks like an old Delaware and Nilestown Super. You mentioned the driver has passed, can you tell us who he was? The good old days!
It is an old Delaware and Nilestown super, it's home track was Flamboro. The driver was Gary Held.
Thanks, enjoy the memories. Another source of info might be Tony Sammut at Murray’s Transmission in London. Been around these for years!
@robertwood5395 when I had the car at the Earl Ross racers reunion, Mark actually helped push the car back in to the trailer.

Where did it run?
It's hard to get history on it, but from research it looks like Flamboro was it's home track, with occasional trips to Nilestown and Delaware.
Buick engine right?
Yes sir, Buick Nailhead

We see the value in it different. I value it more as a survivor.
