I crewed and fabbed on a Hyder Hawk Super in USAC Western series in the late 80s. Car owner Brad Gattie. #73. Driver John "JT" Ryals. I was tire man and fab guy.
410 to 450ci aluminum SBC. Brad Andrews Race Engines - BARE
Ran away from and lapped Billy Vukovich III and all the rest. Just saw video of some of the same guys running Copper World a few years ago.
What is amazing to me is how LITTLE the cars have changed since. Our car was straight axle. IFS and a somewhat, though not dramatically new nose, is pretty much ALL that I see new.

Thank you. I'm wondering, how did everyone find this clip again almost two years later?

winged super mods are some of the most wicked looking crazy cars, they are some of the fastest on pavement and run even bigger motors then 410 sprints sometimes depending on the sanctioning body, but that said they look like something off mad max in the thunderdome. and problably some of the most dangerouus with the speeds they reach not a lot to them to protect the driver at least as far as the osweego versions I am refering to, though I know not all super mods are of the winged type, having seen it was Nathan Bird show footage in one or one of the silver crown drivers I know from my trips to carb night and the winchester vogler classic the last two years, or one of the drivers from there talking about not all of them are like the osweego supermods with wings and there are differant catigories.
but thanks for the close look at one of the beasts after a second search it was nathan bird that showed footage of a type of super mod he ran

What is the wheelbase? I am going to attempt to build a model at about 1:18 - 1:24 scale.
I have tons of pictures from years ago.... Randy Sweet sitting at M-40 waiting to hot lap along with all the guys from the 90's. I just don't have a wheelbase and the width.. I can pretty much scale some of my pictures for detail if I just had the basic dimensions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..I would really like to build possibly a 1:5th or 1/4 scale car out of metal's that would run a weedeater motor like the RC cars run.....
    Thanks
    Peace

I think you can look up the rules for building a super on line.
