I appreciate that you mentioned Avatar is technically not anime, even the creators have adressed this n people cling to it being like an anime cause of the art style. Under that logic so should Teen Titans, 2000s TMNT, Totally Spies, the Super Monkey Team Hyper Force Go and other similar animations that draw on eastern styles. It's not anime because of Nick being the original airing channel/studio, same went for astroboy when it was noted to be inspired by cartoons like early Mickey Mouse among other cartoons for it's simplification of shapes to animate. At the end of the day it's all animation and that it's the studios that deem what relm it is, not us.
If anything Avatar is more Korean than Japanese, considering it was animated in South Korea by a South Korean animation studio.
The term anime is just a confusing term in itself, it got two definition and the second one doesn't even know what its own definition is, so everyone is arguing

5ds actually had a great story. Synchros are awesome. The card games on bikes is weird af, but the characters, story, and duels were nice. And it had well-written main villains who were, in truth, tragic heroes. They weren't just evil for evil's sake
