    Prices might vary if you buy at PriceMart/Costco. But you are buying in bulk. Many expats in the city as well as in the countryside group together and buy in groups. But you never know what is going to be in stock there.

    Local panamenian here. Panama city is stressful and expensive. Most foreigners love coming to Boquete in Chiriquí province and even move there, one the best weathers and places. On the other side of Panama's highest point, is Volcan and Cerro Punta(other alternatives for foreigners who dont like Boquete being crowded). Cerro Punta is Panama's BEST FARMLANDS and the cheapest and easy ways to buy vegetable.
    Also people in those highlands are more happy due to open spaces, nature, tourism, cheap, accessible, chill, very low crime, good police presence anyway. Visit those towns.

    4:45 you can ask in the "embutidos" section from different types of bacon at different prices, and it will be a fresh cut "deli style" they will weight it and you'll know the prices and you can ask them to add more or take out cuts If you want. I'm a Panamanian born and raised and that's how I buy cold meats and cheese.

    I'm told that fresh fruit and vegetables are much cheaper when you buy from stands on the street. Buying in the Boquette area will be much fresher too. The same applies when you buy seafood from the boats at the beach which was probably caught hours before.

      A lot of street vendors in Boquete have jacked up their prices to take advantage of gringos, sometimes higher than the supermarket. Street vendors are amazing down in David & other small towns in panama though.

      I was in Bocas del Toro at a restaurant that had tables on the dock where the boats would arrive with the fish the guys just caught and I could see fish 🐠 swimming below the dock where we were sitting. I joked with the waitress that I wanted that fish I just saw floating by and she said the fishermen would get it for me and I could have it for lunch 🥗. I'll gather up our Buenos Aires video and do one for you. As an answer, we LOVED BA. But, some areas aren't safe and pretty sketchy, even in a big city like buenos Aires. Although we never experienced a problem. And it's not really a very stable country, especially their money. Their politics makes US politics look quiet and friendly. You wouldn't want to have to have all your money in AR currency due to living there. Lunacy. But...if you can manage to live there yet keep all your money out of Argentina, then their continually falling peso will make your life exceedingly cheap. I'd say this; for having an exciting and amazing life living in a vibrant city and country, Argentina would win out. To live a great life in safety, serenity, with friendly people all around. It'd be Panama. And...a big one....Argentina gets cold in summer (their winter).

So hopefully we'll answer your questions. Generally though, it's pretty safe all over Panama. The bigger questions are climate, small vs big town, rural or city, expats or locals, beach versus inland etc.

    • @PhoenixBeI
      @PhoenixBeI Рік тому

      We considered Uruguay for a hot second. It's so far south that a tickets to fly to the corner store are over $2K. They also have cold winters, something we're trying to avoid. They're also in a horrific drought right now. I mention Uruguay because it's in the same region as Argentina, and these would be problems here too. Great beef in both countries, though. :)
      One of the several reasons we are looking into Panama is water. Even thought there's a drought right now, it gets more water than other regions. Also, I'm not sure abt what I'm about the say, but it seems to me that Panama relies heavily on rain and doesn't gather it in reservoirs. Their fields aren't quite irrigated, and rely 100% on the rain. A little infrastructure would help relieve this water problem. Having said that, the air has a lot of water, and we're considering getting an atmospheric water generator if we do decide to move there. It draws water from the air. Great little invention!

Third time gave us a completely different view of it all and turned us around. No idea of where to rent from yet though. As for living on the beach, that'll be a problem. There are BIG BIG (as in expensive) homes on the beach and they close off the beaches with their land and gates. So it's actually difficult to get to the beach given those houses unless you're in one of those big high rise condo buildings on the ocean. Then, easy.
