"Do they have a name for what's wrong with you?"
"Yeah it's called the script."
Best line: "Robot has no heart. Robot is powered by a fusion pulse generator."
Well most of Gary Oldman's lines were cool.
I'll be using that line from now on.
ROBOT LOVES WIFE
This feels like one of those movies that Joey from Friends would star in. I mean the bad acting gives it away. So the way I see it Matt LeBlanc isn't playing Major West, he's playing Joey Tribbiani playing Major West, it makes perfect sense.
"I hate spiders."
Joey is afraid of spiders. Even when he's wearing a Superman costume.
And yet somehow he still out-acts the once great Oscar winner William Hurt.
Playception
Nice
He has the cape, yet he cannot fly...
"I love you wife" Academy award winner William Hurt.
+1997residente He so stole that from Harrison Ford.
Meh witness was pretty boring anyway. And we love Ford In general, not his character, John Book.
Have you seen kiss of the spider woman? I've never liked it. But his performance was great, yet I prefer Raúl Julia's character.
OMG...He will be RED HULK?
SpeedyEric1 he doesn't become red hulk (I'm assuming you know that), but there's always time
"It's right up there with Batman and Robin".
Both were written by Akiva Goldsman.
dreamlandnightmare well he did its beautful mind
He also wrote The Dark Tower.
@@Dim4323 I enjoyed the Netflix series for a good binge watch
@@Dim4323 i couldn't even tell that was based on this crap!
That makes too much sense...

And years later, Gary Oldman finally fired his agent and got an Oscar.
Good on him
Well, today he truly is an Old man
Good for him
He listened to Nostalgic Critic..
More than 7 years later, The Dark Knight Trilogy saved his career when he played Commissioner Jim Gordon...
"I love you wife" worked fine in the Abyss when dude was basically losing his mind and typing....but when someone says it out loud.....it just.....sucks.
It was also more appropriate....they were still married but separated. He still wanted to be with her and still considered their relationship to be salvageable, she thought he was living in the past.
There's zero need for it here.
The writer of this, Akiva Goldsman, also wrote Batman & Robin and Insurgent.
Really puts things in perspective, huh?
Benjamin Johnson really? Wow!!! Lol
Yes, but he also wrote Winter's Tale, one of God's favourite movies. So that makes up for everything else.
@@geoffreysorkin5774 he also directed that piece of sh!t
@@jediknightgeo Proving my point. Winter's Tale is amazing.
@@geoffreysorkin5774 Amazingly terrible
Why is Joey in a movie? I mean his job's a joke, he's broke, and his love life is D.O.A.
+AWildNintenerd Well, he got fired from being Al Pacino's stunt butt, so this was the next best gig he could get.
+SunnysFilms then he got fired from his std ad campaign so he resorted to this
Did you see how bad this movie was? Even when he gets a movie it must feel like he's always stuck in second gear.
It’s like he’s always stuck in second gear. It hasn’t been his day, his week or even his year.
@Peighnis Honourchign woooosh
The actress who played Jenny (or The Chipmunk as Doug called her) is a young Lacey Chabert, best known for Mean Girls. She is also known as Alue from Balto, Vitani from The Lion King, and Meg from the first season of Family Guy.
And sadly, Princess Elise from Sonic the Hedgehog 2006
And Zatanna from Young Justice. What she isn't is Peridot from Steven Universe.
You looked all that up on Wikipedia but you didnt even include Eliza Thornberry? Shame
Fact
For her performance in this movie, Lacey won the Stinker Bad Movie Award for Worst Supporting Actress
Don't forget about her role as Claudia Salinger from Party of Five (1994-2000).
So this is where the "legion of spiders" guy comes from. How did I manage to miss this review for so long?
Whenever I think I’ve finished watching a full season of NC, there is always a review or two I’ve missed. Often those are nice surprises.

+pharaohyami5000 Because redundantly repeating lines the creator pointed out is totally funny.
I thought it was a good line just cause of how odd it is. like an alien wrote it
+Alex Horbacz getting butthurt over people quoting lines that are funny from a video.
Its gonna happen no matter what. Enjoy.
Anyone else remember the Lost In Space show? My favorite episode is the one where Dr. Smith was summoned to alien court and the Robinsons convinced the judge that he's not guilty by reason of insanity. Classic.
If you wanna see something good with Gary Oldman and Matt LeBlanc, go back and watch the season 7 finale of Friends, The One With Monica and Chandler's Wedding, where Gary played Joey's co-star in a World War 1 movie. Side note: That was the first thing I ever saw Gary in. Before I saw that episode, I had no idea who he was.
I recently rewatched the whole Friends series and was shocked Oldman was in it. He's one of my favorite actors and don't ever remember him being on Friends
RIP William Hurt
“We love you, actor”
"I love you wife" I shed tears.
of painful laughter.
Genius
Tell me they make a Hallmark audio card of William Hurt saying "I love you wife." then sighing like Eeyore. Who knew his son would be a bad clone of Jared Harris.
That WAS Jared Harris playing future Will.
Rest in Peace William Hurt
God! I will never forget that line....And also his minor yet important role in MCU
Would love to have seen him as Red Hulk.
his role in the MCU makes me say THANK GOD!! him dying IRL awwww :(
@@anubusx welp. At least you'll have Indiana Jones.
I feel horrible wanting to giggle over hearing Lacey Chabert talk in an angry manner but her voice is just so distinctive and unique. There's this big dichotomy between her edgy, '90s goth girl look and that high-pitched, squeaky, sweet as cotton candy voice of hers.
yeah, honestly i remember watching this as a kid and conflicted between being annoyed by her, and having a minor crush on her, cognitive dissonce for sure lol
Brought to you by the same hack that wrote 'Batman and Robin' AND 'Winter's Tale'!!!

+Marc Aquino Matt Leblanc was contracted to make a film...any...film. So they slap some shit together, rip off the original idea of creative people from decades ago and pray they can fool suckers into forking over their money.

So no one told you life was going to be this way critic?
gary oldman pretty much only got villain roles in the 90's. lost in space, air force one, the professional, true romance, the 5th element, state of grace, bram stoker's dracula, and i suppose you could even count his role as lee harvey oswald in JFK. so bizarre but so many great memories of bonkers gary oldman characters.
Yo, this movie predicted vlogging and the Apple Watch
There's a ton of better movies that predicted the apple watch
+Duskull Kid Really? Apple watch? Apple weren't even close to making the first smartwatch . . . .
+ihave7sacks thats why he used the word "predicted"? ^^
koppsr You sir, have missed the point of my comment. Shush now.

XD
Joey Tribbiani's only major motion picture.
What about that war movie he was in (which ironically had a guy who somehow looked exactly like Gary Oldman).
Marvel/DC/Star Wars Fan he WAS fucking Gary Oldman!
i think i'd rather watch him as Dr Drake Ramornie
I kept waiting for Matt LeBlanc to say to Heather Graham "How you doin?"
When you compare it to Batman and Robin, know that it has the same writer. However, I just watch A Time to Kill, The Client, and A Beautiful Mind to remember that he can write good movies, too.
Oh, we know that. It's just a lot of times, Goldsman doesn't seem content with giving us his best.
@@matthewmoran5297 from what I can tell, his strength is in grounded dramas. Not superhero or sci fi films.
3:11 I love how they're advertising the Intel Pentium II processor, a single core 450 MHz processor from 1997, in 2058.

I swear there was a different ending where they killed the villain in a different way, They cut open the eggsack and the spiders eat him. I guess that was an alternate ending that played in some movie theaters.

@@Tsumefan2 yea for literally one episode.
What's Critic Smoking? I'm with Joey here. There's a space ship full of giant spiders, I don't care how amazing the scientific research is, you blow that shit up.
+The Fantastic Paul Exactly; seriously those spiders probably ate everyone on the other ship including Joey's token black best friend.
+The Fantastic Paul
Blowing that ship up is what made them crash into the planet. The research wasn't the problem, but that they were too close for them to be blowing it up for no reason other than revenge.
+Mario Morales Yeah, and besides those ship could potentially be their way back. I mean if it was the rescue team, then they probably had the FUCKING MAPS WHICH COULD HELP GO GET THE hell OUT of there.
Actually in the film they downloaded the maps right before the spiders showed up.
Wouldn't discovery of new life like that be pretty important? And wouldn't it piss off a lot of biologists if they came home to earth and said " oh hey we have discovered alien life that has evolved, on a space ship, and would probably be incredibly interesting to study. But Leblanc decided to blow it up. Sorry for committing genocide on a the first alien life ever discovered hours after its discovery."
Very impressed by your use of Wagner for " I love you wife". Perfection. I hope to stop laughing by next week. Thanks for all the giggles you give me and your fans.
"We're the only single man and woman....OF CONSENTING AGE...."
God I hope he's thinking about Laci Chabert and not that blonde kid. That would be....marginally less creepy.
I have to agree with you. If Heather Graham doesn't put out, when Lacey Chabert gets tired of playing with the monkey, Joey ( Mat LaBlanc ) Major West is going to give Lacey ( Penny ) some Major Pain.
This reminds me of what Dave Chappelle said about Michael Jackson in his comedy special.
Is that Joey from Friends? He finally got an acting job!
Ah, he's probably gonna be pushed down an elevator shaft in the sequel.
(answer me if you got that reference)
@@adrianschagerl4486 maybe they put his brain in the body of a woman.
@Mai Nyigguh ?
The scene where Robot said, “that..... was..... a ..... mistake” was my favourite line.
Why does Penny sound like Peridot?
Kinda does, yeah. Sadly, it isn't the same person, though.
Anime America? Didn't know you guys follow NC
She is, however, Zatanna, in Young Justice...
I knew she sounded familiar.
She is? Cool
She is?! Cool
Wife and son... the future must hate names.
5 years later: wife and son are outlawed because gendered language = bad.
Loved Matt LeBlanc as Joey in Friends, William Hurt (Rest in Peace) as Thunderbolt Ross in the Marvel movies and Gary Oldman as the voice of Viktor Reznov is the Call of Duty games, Commissoner Gordon, Sirius Black in Harry Potter and Winston Churchill.
And I don't care what anyone says; the original show was awesome. But if you're trying to adapt it into something epic, you might as well turn in a one-page screenplay that just says "I didn't understand or like the show". The original show was INANE; that's why it was fun.
Plus, John Williams did the music for the TV Show.
Annie Trinity then the Netflix show came...

THIS MOVIE SHOULDNT BE CALLED LOST IN SPACE! ITS NOTHING LIKE THE SHOW!!!!!
Well, it’s better than most remakes, it adds something new to the old series
Well, Netflix announced they will be remaking Lost in Space. Hopefully it will do better than this movie. After all, they managed to make Daredevil cool again after that travesty of a film with Ben Affleck ruined it for a while.
NexAngelus405 I'm hoping The Punisher is good too
Well I liked Lost in Space back in a day, so I'm in whatever they do with it.
Just hope they don't turn future Doctor Smith into a spiiiiiiider who wants to create more spiiiiiiiders.
NexAngelus405 Just watched the entire new lost in space series and its amazing!
Kitten_Wizard It's amazingly bad. It rips off so many things I lost count.
Sometimes I feel like you never really watch the movies you review. Two things here. One, the communicator wasn't programmed to knock out the doctor. It was supposed to kill him. He yanked it off his suit and prevented it from stopping his heart. The other is the ending. Moving to the right a little wouldn't have helped. The issue was they didn't have enough thrust to escape the planets gravity. Traveling through the core allowed them to build up more speed to reach escape velocity.
RIP William Hurt
Those WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH bits were golden

They would deserve a serparate clip, or clips, based on what intensity you need atm. :)

the one at 14:13 made me lol the most 😂😂😂
I want those as sound effects.
12:20 well if there was a giant spaceship full of deadly giant spiders that can mutate people i'd blow it the fuck up too.
I'll be honest, I loved this movie as a kid simply because I had a childhood crush on Lacey Chabert...lol
The twist with Zurg in Lightyear reminded me of this.
oh thank god i'm not so alone lol, it wasn't a major crush for me but i def felt a stirring in my youth for her lol
Dewey from Malcolm of the Middle is that you?
No, but he does look very similar doesn't he? And no there not related.
they're not there
Yeah, I thought it was him too.
RIP William Hurt 😿
It's crazy that Lacey Chabert starred in this & The Wild Thornberrys in the same year . Thank god Nickelodeon helped her career tremendously.
Fun fact she left family guy to do this, let that sink in.
Her other great role was in Mean Girls
10:48 Oh my god its that thing from the Nutshack...

Who else came here after watching the trailer for the new Netflix Lost in Space series.
I was just looking for the Misfits song.
That Netflix version was real stupid. When I saw Lost in Space I recognized the seen from the ‘98 movie where Dr Smith attempted to program the robot to kill the Robinsons.
Paul Bauman I'm talking about the 2018 Lost in Space Netflix reboot series. Not the '98 movie that just so happens to be on Netflix.
Update: The Netflix series is way better than the movie.
Can confirm, binged it over the weekend. Enjoyed it a lot.
6:15 You know you're a b**ch when you quote YOURSELF!!!

I just realized Peridot from Steven Universe is totally based on Penny. High pitched voice, socially off-putting, incessant need to record her thoughts; she's totally Peridot. Except Peridot is in something good.
+Deathsbastardbro Admittedly hammy acting aside I do actually kind of like the initial design of the Robot in this version..
Now onto Penny Robinson... Holy crap, does this mean she's going to become a Kindergarten teacher?
+Kevyn The DevylMan Penny is also Grechen Weiners from Mean Girls
yes you saw the resemblance to i thought i was the only one
Kevyn The DevylMan the last parts debatable

The future: you can have a conference in any type of place you want.
NC: why not just a regular room?
I remember watching this as a kid and being super confused by the time stuff. I feel like they were trying to set a series Stargate style, but fell very short.
i can forgive Pennys voice only because she turned into Lacey Chabert.
I crushed hard on Lacey Chabert in this movie. I never noticed her voice, to be honest.
+kungfuman82 yep and pretty sure the next time i saw her she was Amanda Becker in Not Another Teen Movie
I love Lacey Chabert
She's so fetch
0:00
Its that bad eh?
13:18 im sorry but i cant take joey seriously
He was cast because he was recognizable and from a popular TV show, but he seems like a dufus and wrong for that part.
Or maybe that's just from seeing him in Friends it's hard to see him as another character and take him seriously?
well I guess doctor Smith never got his legion of spiders
Mr. Robinson's monotone voice was very fitting for the conference scene where he was introduced. But it was a missed opportunity to give him a more human side seeing him off the stage and in the position of father. In fact the family vs mission/job theme is something the film looks like it was trying to explore but never stayed focused on these type of story arcs, resulting in film that's inconsistent.
my second favorite line in this film next to "I love you wife." is Heather Graham's line "I don't like the sound of that sound."
5:40 Nostalgia Critic: "What the f*ck were you doing in a desert?"
Me: "He was looking for the horse with no name and it felt good to be out of the rain."
this movies actually pretty good BEFORE they get lost in space
So does being a spider mean that you have a really long neck?
Is it bad I had the biggest crush on Penny when I was 7?
Yes
The Nuka-Cola Man Figures.
I too had a huge crush on penny, when I was 5.
Nope. Same here. I was 13 and had a crush on her...but it's okay, she was like 15-16 in the movie, and Lacey Chabert is smoking hot now.

As flawed as the movie is, I still enjoy coming back to this movie every now and then. Mostly because the Soundtrack is relaxing in a way as well as the effects being pretty good for the 90s.
I remember when I saw that, 'I love you wife' scene as a kid, I was like, 'Huh, that's weird!!'
RIP William Hurt.
As a 7-year-old, LIS was the high point of my TV week. (So what if it didn't hold up very well? Try watching a re-run of 'Sky King' or 'Flipper.") The only moment of joy this dog of a movie brought me was hearing Dick Tufeld as the voice of the robot.
Oh puhlease! Kevin Costner is a better actor than William Hurt. Even John Hurt was better too(may he RIP😔)
Spider Smith is still one of my favorite Critic side characters!
At 14:28, OMG! Is that Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle?
"...because LeBlanc hates SPIDERS."
lol The way he said that
Don't know why I laughed when he said you get no continental breakfast in the robots voice, lol.
Lost In Space isn't that bad, it's not great but not terrible. I don't think Doug has a leg to stand on when he made the gem that is Suburban Knights.
You've much improved over the years....
Honestly, this film had two big issues.
1: Over hype. As hard as they hit with the toys and ads it could have been the best movie ever made and still not lived up to the billing.
2: It couldn't decide if it was going to stay true to the 60's kids' show or do its own thing and in trying to do both it failed at both. Decent enough movie if you like light sci-fi, but not an award winner.
But come on, the Banana-beef exchange was good. Quip about a can of Raid was a bit 80's action cornball, but decent action quip.
The lesson for filmmakers here is don't try to do two seemingly contradictory things in one movie; if you pull it of it will be fabulous, but it is a bit like threading the needle and mach three and if you fail you fail worse than failing at doing one thing.
Gary Oldman IS Aiden Gillen AS Littlefinger IN Lost In Space!
