We went to mercadona every other day last year on holiday and tried different wines each time. Not once did we pay more than 3 quid or get a bad wine. The quality of the food and drink was amazing. Thanks for posting
@Paul-eb4jp is that the one that used to be around 90cents to 110 a bottle? Sound familiar, and we used to drink it as well, before we started paying a little more for the syrah. Thanks for watching and the comment 😊
Sincerely, I am Spanish learning English. And the wines of that price range are really not good at all. Most of us use them to cook or like a day to day drink if there is nothing better. I mean they are no bad. But for us the difference with them and something a little better with no much of increase in the price.

Great video post, very informative. Now I know what some of the items on the shelves actually are. I live north of Porto in Portugal and we have two Mercadona's in town - one at each end. Mercadona is my supermarket of choice. The isles are clean and spacious and the quality is excellent and very well priced.
Thanks for watching and the feedback. 🙏 the whole purpose was to show people what was available and what some items were (boiled eggs, for example) so that they didn't make the easy mistakes many have when visiting.
You reminded me to be on the lookout for the coconut ice cream in the coconut shells which I saw as you panned the ice cream section. Can’t believe the olive oil is now cheaper here in the US than in Spain and most of it is coming from Spain or Italy. We like to get the manchego cheese when in Spain since it is usually 3X the price over here. Surprised to see Hellmans mayo. Love some of the British English vs American English words you use ie trolley vs shopping cart, ice lollies instead of ice pops😂. Have a great day and thanks for showing everyone around.
Spain is the biggest olive oil producer in the world, but has been experiencing the worst draught in decades, which is why olive oil prices have recently multiplied. Even now, you can get a 1 liter bottle of extra virgin olive oil for less than 10 bucks. Could you please tell me exactly where in the US you can get Spanish extra virgin olive oil for less than 10 bucks?? Cheers!
@@1650million Hi just got your comment. Just outside NYC in April onLong Island I got extra virgin olive oil packed in Spain but said from olives from Italy Spain Greece or Tunisia for $ 8.99 but it was store brand name Bogopa. I got a 1 quart almost a liter from Trader Joe’s for $12.99 too. And Fillipo Berrio an Italian brand 1 liter $9.99 on sale recently. My point was just that the olive oil was so cheap in Spain that I would bring some home to US every year but when I saw the prices had skyrocketed last year it wasn’t worth it to bring back. Being Italian American I do use a lot of olive oil so I do tend to know prices.
@@tedg4171 I used to buy 750ml of extra virgin olive oil for 3.75 euros a bottle, five years ago, in the supermarket right in front of my house. Like I said, it´s mostly the draught (and worldwide overall inflation), that has taken it to these unheard prices. I actually cannot think of a single food ingredient which has multiplied its value more than olive oil, in a country well known across Europe for its more than reasonable food prices. BTW, I suspect you don´t know "Italian" olive oil is often not Italian at all. We sell cheap olive oil in bulk to Italians, who take it to their country, rebrand it as "Premium" Italian olive oil, then export it to the US, charging 3 times the value in Spain... :D Please don´t trust me, do your research online. Best!
The Mercadona in Nerja is the best by a long way, especially as they are the only supermarket there to stock a large range of gluten free products for Coeliacs.

The washing liquid and fabric conditioner smells lovely and last along time I try to bring some back to the UK. You forgot to mention The Guvnor wines a must only in Mercadona €2.85. In the UK only in majestic wines £7 - 9.
Hi. Lots of people like the Guvnor wine but we actually prefer the Syrah one that we showed (2.35€). Just shows the difference in prices through! Thanks for watching and the comment 😃
It needs to be mentioned that Mercadona has the best choice and labelling for Gluten free for anyone with Celiac desease. Instead of putting it all in one isle like other supermarkets ( and mainly cakes and biscuits lolll ) they scatter it through out the store in the normal sections but with a big Sin Gluten sticker on the front. Perfect for me.
@@britslivinginspain Apparently the guy who owns the chain has a daughter who is Celiac . . so he knows what a trouble we have with shopping. In the UK it used to take me hours and hours reading all the labels lollll
The food in Spain is not spicy at all, so it is normal that those sausages are not spicy. We don't put cereals (?) inside the sausages either, I've never heard of that in my life. Here the sausages only have meat, maybe a little bit of animal fat and maybe a little bit of black pepper, but that's it.
You are correct. Spanish is not spicy. We mention cereal because ALL English sausages contain cereal so people from U.K. might find sausages with no cereal a little strange. We on the other hand love the Spanish sausages. The aim of this video was to inform visitors of the variety of product in their local supermarket. Thanks for the comment.
@@britslivinginspain Yes yes I see, no problem, sorry. I didn't know that english sausages had cereal inside them. Maybe it's due to some historical fact.

I've been shopping in Mercadona down the coast from you since I moved out 10 years ago. Most shoppers I see are Spanish obviously but there are more Brits coming in these days (some like rabbits in the headlights 😛). The fear of someone trying to talk to them in Spanish has obviously diminished now that the boxed Iceland sh*te has gone through the roof and they're forced to buy cheaper. That said, prices have rocketed obviously since the pandemic but the brakes seem to be on now. When I used to drink Gaseosa it was about 21cents not so long ago so now that it's 50c it shows how much it's rocketed... Still our go to shop where I now supplement our keto diets with their products. I love their butter at 1.90 a 250g.... You try telling those back in Blighty... they'd never believe ya what with the prices they pay 😐
But very little in Mercadona now ( the cheddar, yes). Prices have increased so much in last couple of years. Ok, they pay their staff well, but now prefer Economy, Consum or Lidl.
Supermarkets quality in Spain is great, but most Spaniards cannot afford their own local products. I am a “expat” in Germany and everything is even more expensive there in Spain, except the alcohol…
''but most Spaniards cannot afford their own local products'' WTF? are you rtrdd or something like that? 95% of Mercadona costumers are spanish in all Spain...
Been using Mercadona for 20+ years and no complaints but one: I only buy meat from my local butchers at the market. It's tastier and cheaper, has more variety and you can choose your own cuts. Mercadona's meat is...average.
This is true of most supermarkets that don't have a fresh meat counter: we've got a Spanish butchers that is recommended to us that we will try when we're not working. Thanks for watching and the comment 👍
Thank you for another helpful video. I picked up a couple of tips I’ll implement when I do my shop when over there. Especially what chicken not to buy!! Ie neck etc! Can I ask a question? How is the fresh chicken prepared there? I always find it tougher than UK chicken . I ended up buying mine through an Irish butcher .

Spain has really getting expensive over the years..Im happy im living and working here in Bangkok for a fraction of the European prices and in what reargued luxury in Europe.. I spend about 25% of my salary for rent food and everyday life a month here. Never cook food at home and rent a nice 1 bedroom condo for around 270€ a month+ 25€ for electricity and water and a dinner cost about 1-2 € same with clothes transportation and all other things in life...its extremely cheap

@barbasevic you can't compare the two as they are completely different. But. Costs wise, Thailand is a LOT cheaper, and is a beautiful country. Mercadona is a low-cost supermarket where they only sell their own branded products. It's like the Lidl or the Aldi of Spain. It's not where you are supposed to buy your meat, fish, charcuterie, cheeses, fruit, etc. For that you have to go to local, quality butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers etc.
Will disagree on this one- they sell a lot of their own brand products and also sell some "branded" products- Knorr, Nestle, Weetabix, Juardo, Pescanova, Danone, Unilver, etc. The meat and fish we've had from there is good. It won't beat a traditional butchers, or bigger supermarkets that have a meat or fish counter, but some of the bigger Mercadona do have fresh fish counters etc. There are, of course, Lidl and Aldi, if you wish The meat we've had from Lidl hasn't been as good.... Thanks for watching.
@@britslivinginspain It's is true that they also sell some products that are not their brand, but most of them are their own brand. I'm not saying that the meat and fish they have are bad, after all they are Spanish products made in Spain, but given that there are very good butchers, fishmongers etc. in Spain, it's a shame to go to Mercadona to buy fresh produce, but many hicks do as it is cheap, and they don't care or know about quality.
The problem is that the butchers and fishmongers are often only open at certain times- many people working would struggle to get to fishmongers or butchers when they're at work.... but thanks for calling us hicks 👍

@@pja7 Noticed in a video today that milk in Spain is the same price as in the UK.
The frozen chicken kebab meet is awesome - takes minutes to fry and its good with chips, rice, salad, pitta bread and tsatsiki (also from Mercadona) 😊
Helen was sceptical about that kebab meat but maybe we need to give it a try! Thanks for the comment! 😄
I think it is good also.

Thanks so enjoyed that, I shop at Mercadona and you showed me new products, going to try the body cream you recommened!!

Amazing selection of meats there, ham hock is always good roasted and cutting up into a soup with good stock and veg x

We don’t go to Mercadona often. It feels like Aldi to me. I like the little shop in my village with regional products.
However the toasted salted almonds at Mercadona are definitely my favorite.
Thanks for watching and the comment- those almonds are very morish! 😊

Hi Fred. Thanks for watching
Amazing sharing big 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! 😃
Hi Ted. Thanks for watching. Those coconut ice creams are delicious! 😋

"gaseosa" is soda water with limon "aroma" - Never try "tinto de verano" - Buy any red wine and mix it with "gaseosa" - It's dem goood
We prefer the red wine solo 😂
Red wine, gaseosa (or Fanta Limón or similar) and A LOT OF ICE.
The ICE is fundamental.
That's what makes it a good summer drink. 😎 thanks for watching 👍
🍷🍷🍷😁
Include a couple of peaches in regular pieces inside a jar of "tinto de verano" with some ice. Eat them when you end up with the wine. Best dessert ever!

I used to always do my shopping in Mercadona but drastically changed my diet so now only ocasionally go to buy orange juice and salted butter.

Thanks for the video. Fizzy drinks better than fanta/ tango. The washing up liquid smells better and last longer than fairy.
@lesleycarney8868 that's one of the things we aimed to highlight as it is unusual. Thanks for watching 👍
@@britslivinginspain Apparently the guy who owns the chain has a daughter who is Celiac . . so he knows what a trouble we have with shopping. In the UK it used to take me hours and hours reading all the labels lollll
Yeah. Win-win for everyone (apart from being a coeliac)
Spain has rich and diverse producers, unlike uk it’s very limited product, which do not have diversity, and you will not find some basic things

Hi guys! Thanks! See you soon 😃

Spain has really getting expensive over the years..Im happy im living and working here in Bangkok for a fraction of the European prices and in what reargued luxury in Europe..
I spend about 25% of my salary for rent food and everyday life a month here.

As we mentioned at the start... some mercadona charge different prices. We did show the prices of some items... if we were to show prices of everything we would have been there all day... thanks for watching 👍
There are, of course, Lidl and Aldi, if you wish
The meat we've had from Lidl hasn't been as good....
@@britslivinginspain They are open all day (9 am to 20h) as far as I know. No, you are not hicks sorry, I mean that some do. Sorry for my comment, it was very rude.
@@Ilar-en7lg if you look in our back catalogue you will see we’ve made videos of other supermarket chains, local butchers, fresh food markets and also British food shops. We just like to show people about life in Spain. No all visitors integrate as we do.
Why did you not mention price of English brand food products, Weetabix silly price, PG tips very expensive, Fresh Salmon crazy price,, a liter of low fat Fresh milk about 1.10,
We don't know UK prices on the whole as a comparison. A lot of the British stuff there are Spanish alternatives. Fresh milk isn't used that often over here, probably because of shelf life dates and storage (uht can be stored in a cupboard until opened for example)
