Technically oxygen isn't flammable. The chemical reaction of burning is defined as a reaction of a substance with oxygen with a release of heat. Oxygen can't react like that with itself, so it's not flammable. It's like you're not technically killing with a gun. You're killing with the ammuniton, the gun is only part of the process. Same thing goes for oxygen and burning. It's part of the process but not actually being burned.
You can indeed cheese power using the gas power stations. Biomethanol is made from oxygen (free from the air), wood (greenhouses with water), and steam (water + wood). You can make a modular build if you like since the ratios actually work out quite nicely (3 greenhouses, 1 boiler, 1 oxygen machine, 3 fuel refineries, 3 gas power stations) and get as much power as you want with water as the only ingredient. Generates a ton of pollution, but nothing an air filter or two can't fix ;) If you do this, hook up a storage tank to a power switch. Set the power switch to disconnect if the biomethanol tank gets close to empty. This will blackout your factory if you overdraw power, but it will recover automatically, which is awesome :D
Here's a non spoiler tip : when you get new tech and have lotsa new things highlighted in your inventory crafting menu, you can hold shift and mouse over everything without stopping for half a second every recipe :3 (like at 3:50)
For easier access to the grid to show chunks you can press F5, when I first played factorio I accidentally turned it on and had to look up how to turn it off
I started playing Krastorio after your first episode. I'm ahead, which is a good thing, but it's funny how similar our experiences were. Trying to put coal into a car and realizing that I needed a special fuel was a fun little trick the mod pulled. Also, air filters surrounding the base to keep pollution from spreading is more or less what I did ... but your approach of then burning the dirty water seems super counter-intuitive to me, since the flare stacks create pollution. I would've assumed that it would make equal pollution, but maybe that's crazy moon logic.
The flare stacks don't make as much pollution as I thought lol, the filters are OP. But towards the end of the video, almost all of the dirty water is ran into a filtration plant to turn it into a small amount of rare metals :P
@@DocJade Depends on what you burn. Some things like hydrogen or water seem to produce little to no pollution. Burn Chlorine though? I got Big pollution clouds from that. (By then I had artillery walls and didn't care about pollution so much, but it was noticeable)
Actually, sand and water are how you can synthesize quartz. Quartz is made of silica, which is what sand is made off. You just get the silica to dissolve in water with high temperatures, and you can generate arbitrarily large crystals of quartz.
Ok but that’s exactly how you would get quartz, it just wouldn’t look like a nice crystal like that. All you’re doing is using water to liquify the sand and then filtering out anything that’s not quartz particles
Sand, quartz and glass are all the same thing made of silica. Just break them down and you get silicon. I also assume that the rocket fuel using air is the creation of hydrazine, N2H4.
I used dirty water to filter out rare metals before I discovered the ore patches. Idk if it was AAI's fault but the miners with liquid inputs require rare metals.
After watching your 1st video I decided to give Krastorio a shot. Glad I did. My currently most fav thing to do is get 12 greenhouses, hook them up to 20 boilers and watch "free, renewable" energy.
I recently realized that if you dont balance the sides, you can only get half the maximum output from your buildings (I noticed this in my smelting array) say you have 1 furnace per side if one side is backed up, now you're only running at 50% capacity
Mmhhh, so in this mod, you can capture pollution in filter, clean them with water and getting dirty water, and then you can burn the dirty water to get the pollution go back in the air =)
Enjoying the series so far, I got super far into krastorio 2 in 1 day over summer and my version of the mod doesn't save correctly or something so all my research was gone. Rip 14 hours of gameplay...
In Krastorio 2 you can grow wood from water, then burn that wood to make steam for your steam generators and get a power profit. It will take a fair amount of area for the greenhouses, but its unlimited power. Setting up a few of those held me until I got to fusion power.
Its crazy, i started olaying this at the same time as your first episode and think its going well and it took me 9 hrs to get to blue card automation lol
12:55 Oxygen is HIGHLY flamable. its one of 3 vital parts of fire, Fuel, Oxygen, Heat. People think that fire is all about the fuel, no, oxygen plays a huge part of it. Its litterally what makes things go from small flames to torches capable of cutting and welding steel. Its why your not allowed to open flames near oxygen tanks. Here is a video of oxygen burning in a propane atmosphere: ua-cam.com/video/8jmX-TUQkx4/v-deo.html
Oxygen is not flammable. Oxygen in and of itself does not burn. It is an integral part of fire, yes, but it is not flammable. It enhances flames, and even causes other material to be able to catch fire, but it isn't flammable. Oxidization =! Flammability.

Just to clear something up, someone in the comments mentioned that Oxygen is "HIGHLY flammable". This is not true. Oxygen is an Oxidizer. It promotes flames, but does not burn itself. Oxygen devoid of fuel is no more dangerous than a tree covered in snow. Also, I'm unsure where the information that Oxygen radicals are flammable is from, because from what I can tell, they as well are just oxydizers. But honestly, I could be very wrong about that, and if you have a quote on that, I'd love that.
I'm not to the end of the video yet so maybe you figured it out but shotguns will destroy wooden chests lol (at least they did in krastorio 2 + industrial revolution)
Pollution neutral is not carbon neutral. Burn the trees, straight from greenhouses. This makes more power than it needs, while taking just water. Then, greenhouses take some pollution. If you insert speed module, than suck more pollution. You can burn wood from greenhouses (100% carbon neutral power!), and suck pollution at the same time. Later you can also use wood for mater liquefication and production of any resource. No need for mines :D
I feel like air filters are the worst part of Krastorio. The mod is great and integrates so well into the base game, but then the air filters come along and are so blatantly overpowered. It makes no sense to me.
The large crystal graphics of quartz after the filtration plant are just a dramatic representation of the quartz that exists in sand
Yeah, theyre just hilaruiosly huge so i thought I could get a joke outta it
I totally knew that... totally...... 😅
This nonsense of "because combining 4 belts into 5 belts wouldn't have made any sense" caught me off gaurd. Bravo; have my subscribtion for that.

@@TheJklgamer but oxygen radicals can burn since O1+O1--->O2 but due to that you can't keep them as radicals to burn.
To be fair, saying that oxygen is flammable is kind of like saying that water is wet--a self-referential paradox waiting to happen

Great video, as always a pleasure to watch.
Oxygen on its own may not burn, but its a GREAT accelerant.

I wonder how well this would work when paired with the factorismo world gen
Did you know you can rotate things like belts and inserters anti-clockwise by pressing shift-r? Just something i found really useful
Im aware, but i can just mash r 3 times faster than i can press shift r lol
Honestly I just haven't developed the muscle memory
Don't ask how it's possible to burn water. It's just possible
Just heat up a metal inside the pool of water and it will steam up and go out of the building oo
Have you considered live-streaming? This would make some fun content to watch!

as far as i know those loaders are bad for ur ups
ups is irrelevant unless you are making a huge megabase, even more so if you have a very fast cpu.

Especially considering all of the cool military research later on that you will never get to use if you use air filters.
