  • Negombo Lagoon Boat Tour to The Monkey Island
We started the tour at a point of the Dutch canal (aka Hamilton Canal).
We were cruising a short distance through the heart of old Negombo town before entering the lagoon. It was a close up view of local fishing life.
You'll see thousands of colorful fishing boats. and you'll pass by the fish market and the fish farms.
You'll also see the daily life of the fishing village:
    Where boats are being repaired
How the excess catch is being washed and sun dried to be sold out as ‘dried fish’
Where the lagoon meets the sea.
Fish market as you can see from the lagoon
    Fish farms
How fishermen get their fishing nets ready for their next catch.
    Experience:
The lagoon is known for its beautiful mangrove swamps. You can drift along past mangrove forests
The boat stopped at a place surrounded by densely populated mangrove swamps. The water is shallow. You can wade in the lagoon. The boatman prepared a meal for us which we enjoyed in the middle of the lagoon!
    What a cool idea!!!
Finally we visited the Monkey Island to offer food to the monkeys. After that we went back to the Dutch canal were we started the tour.
This was about a 2 hour journey and it was wonderful!
