In regards to Arcane Trickster and needing Int and Cha, just take spells that don't require spell saves like; mage armor, shield, magic missile. Int isn't required to multiclass so you can keep it 8. At least doing that you'll regain a lost caster level. Would also allow 9th lvl spells at 20 if you stop at 3 rogue.
I've made a similar build before, only it was solely Sorcerer. It's total cheese with booming blade and a rapier. You cast darkness with sorcery points, then run in to booming blade + quicken spell. Since your foes are blinded, you don't provoke attacks of opportunity from movement, and your own attack rolls have advantage. Assuming both attacks hit, that's 2d8+Dex+2d8 thunder; then, when and if your foe moves, they take another 4d8 thunder damage. Assuming Dex 16, that's an average of 21 damage if both attacks hit, followed by an average of 18 thunder damage if your target moves. Your real average damage may be much higher, since your crits will double the damage dice (but not the triggered damage) as you are hitting with advantage. At 5th level, you can attack twice per round a total of 3 times, as you must spend 3 sorcery points to quicken your booming blade, and an additional 2 to cast darkness. If you want to REALLY cheese this build, then simply burn your spell slots to make more sorcery points. Since the only time you'll make this build is when you're trying to be obnoxious - why not? It turns combat into a total can of EZ-cheese, but your party will hate you for it. Combine with Devil's Sight Warlock for maximum shenanigans.
I’m playing a Rogue assassin/ Bladelock/ Arcane archer Assassinate with long bow + shadow arrow, or shadow blade. Both use extra attack so you can assassinate two different targets or hit the same creature twice
its my first time multiclassing in a game currently, and I started with wild magic sorc, atm we are level 6 characters and I just took my first level as rogue, so sorc 5 / rogue 1 rn, but i neeeeed that cunning action at least, and the sneak attck as been great as we've been playing with homebrew rules where I have a firearm that I can infuse with magical abilities through expending spell slots and the firearm gets new buffs as my wild magic count goes up. its really fun and cool haha the damage on the firearm is 1d10+DEXmod but with all the other things its been great, my DM was worried about it being OP at first, but so far its been really balanced.
Note: I dont get to add spells to the firearm by expending spell slots, I can use a thing called "Empowered Shot" which requires me to spend a spell slot of any level and will use all magical 'bullets' and I add 1d10 for each bullet, which is 3, I always have to reload after using Empowered shot, good burst damage firearm. I also noticed you called the multiclass a "Silvertongue Devil" and I am literally a Tiefling Han Solo inspired character omg looool
It's a very interesting/intriguing build but the criticisms I'd have is: - constitution save of +1, this build is really focused on never taking damage since a single hit has a minimum 40% chance to interrupt concentration. - I am not so sure that all the Charisma is really needed As far as Charisma goes, it seems Faerie Fire, Acid Splash, Scorching Ray, Rakish Audacity, Panache & Strength of the Grave are the things that use it. In this build, Faerie Fire looks like the better pick for that concentration since the character themselves gets elvish accuracy and would grant advantage to all allies too. Shadow Blade would be more useful for the thrown option to avoid getting in melee distance to protect that low concentration but this loses the green flame blade/booming blade options. Darkness is a last ditch spell for when you're under threat already. Given this is a rogue, scorching ray and acid splash seem mostly like a waste, mainly used for quicken spell. This build already has high initiative (+5 Dex +Alert), how much benefit is there to pushing this all the way up to 15? And if you had to go to Strength of the Grave, it means everything else above already failed you and will probably immediately fail you again. Finally Panache, this one is good but you already have significant investment in this via the Expertise in Persuasion to get double proficiency. There is also a lot of consideration on how to use bonus action here, since you need to stay out of range a lot of it will probably be used to dash and so dual wielding becomes questionable, unless you're in the darkness spell or confident that you can get somewhere safe. If you're using Shadow Blade, you're probably gunna toss it more than melee and so the bonus will often be needed to resummon the blade. And then the hound of ill omen For an alternative that can do Darkness/Shadow Blade, I figured a more fun one of a Feral Winged Teifling with Warlock instead of sorcerer and decided to avoid the obvious Hexblade to get a bit more fun with Celestial Patron instead - ddb.ac/characters/30032967/kStBF0 It's not a min-maxxed build but still designed to be a fairly interesting one, focusing more on utility and ritual spell casting than anything else, on the warlock side. I don't have a sub for d&d beyond (tho the group all pays towards the DM's sub), so I will probably end out deleting this one at some point. I've never played Adventurer's League and no idea what is legal for it, so not built to those standards. I am guessing the big conflict would be the feral variant tiefling but that could go to a number of other choices

Shadow Blade is a concentration spell, so without Warcaster or CON proficiency your blade will go down. Also you dont mention using Cantrips - Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade. I dont see why you cant use Sneak attack with the cantrips.

Lol just starting a new campaign an im about to take 1 lvl rogue, and x lvls clockwork soul sorcerer. So basically I'm using a back story that my pc was kill by a bunch of wizards due to he was a sorcerer, and they believed he was tampering with time magic which is forbidden. However when he was a child his father had build a extremely detailed construct, and gave his son an amulet that upon the death of his son would transfer his soul into the construct. So now have have a warforged assassin sorcerer ready to make the world a better place 😆
This is a perfect build for something that I’m trying to do! I read a lot of Percy Jackson, a certain character is named Nico di Angelo who I’m trying to play as a dnd character. Those who have read the books will know what I am taking about!
You could add to the idea of the sensual arm candy of the big bad with Blessing of Corellon so the character can choose which sex s/he wants to be every day.
I found shadow blade by accident with making my shadow sorcerer and I fell in love with it when I killed a bunch of bandits with it. Totally want to make this character now.
One thing you guys forgot to mention was that the level 3 sorcerer gets the free spell, Darkness, and can cast it for free during the round with sorcery points. Then, with the bonus action used to cast Shadow Blade, your attack action automatically gets a sneak attack opportunity. Shadow Blade gives you advantage in either dim light or complete darkness, and the sorcerer can see in his created darkness.
I was thinking a straight Arcane Trickster would probably be a better way to go with this; if a multi class is needed or absolutely desired, then could do a Rogue Arcane Trickster and a warlock of some variety, to give some short rest rechargeable spell slots.
I've done a longer lasting build with Swashbuckler/Arcane Trickster and Bladesinger. The defensive spell abilities of the Bladesinger combined with Swashbucker/Arcane Trickster abilities to reduce damage further to be very agile dodgy character. It's much more of a duelist build that makes up for some of the weaknesses of the blade singer. You could go Hexblade/Swashbuckler for a similar style and get that shadow from anyone you kill along with some long range game in case the enemy is really too tough to get near.
Depending on whether your DM considers a lock pick a nonmagical trinket that can fit in your hand, Prestidigitation and Mage Hand with the Sorcerer's Subtle Spell and Arcane Trickster's Mage Hand Legerdemain makes you pretty much uncatchable...
Spell progression is so slow with Arcane Trickster. Also you don't get as many slots as a full caster. Magic initiate helps, but not completely. When you multiclass you are looking for something specific like metamagic or fighting style. AT is a rogue with a couple of magic tricks.
Funny thing. I was planning the same thing but I was planning on going with Thief for climbing and escaping, 3 in ranger for gloomstalker for umbral sight and wrapping it up with 5 in shadow sorcerer so I can get most of the spell i love like enemies abound, haste and still have shadow blade. Though my build was inspired by Styx
My first character to reach level 20 was very close to this! It was before Xanathar's guide came out using UA, but I grabbed 3 levels fighter samari Midway for action surge and fighting spirit. His background was a Homebrew about selling his soul for immortality, but his existence was tied to our keep and was forced to serve it's owner, our party leader. It was the only way my DM would let me play lawful evil in that campaign, and she constantly tried to kill him off or have NPCs upstage him because of how broken I ended up making him. We roll D20s for stats, and he had 4 maxed out stats at level 1.
Going Drow adds a lot of flavor and synergy and still gives off that things that go bump in the night feel. Love the build, glad you like the idea and had fun with it.
@@Bombasaki as someone who frequently plays characters with sunlight sensitivity, it is a lot of fun to play around when it's in effect, and also all my companions know: if you wanna go adventuring in the day, don't count on me to notice anything.
@@Bombasaki spam things that don't require attack rolls like create bonfire and infestation then cast darkness you can see through, shadow hound and shadow blade
Arcane Trickster immediately gets you two 3rd level slots which gives you an extra d8 on your Shadow Blade and frees up 2nd level slots for Mirror Image or whatever else, and you eventually get 5th level slots for another d8.
I did a version of this with mark of the shadow elf pally 2 / sword bard 11 with criminal background. Ability breakdown 13/20/12/8/8/16 after racials and asi. elven accuracy. expertise in athletics, investigation, perception, and stealth. Two fighting styles: defense, dueling. Use magical secrets to grab shadow blade and shadows of moil. Crit fish with 2 attacks and smite/blade flourish gets you the extra damage. Used as a scout/thief/melee canon but also has some face skills to help in that roll. How should I finish my levels? Stay bard? Splash rogue/fighter/???
For that background and if you want a lower cr monster to eat your players the Shadow is a good option especially with that whole Strength damaging power they have plus they sneak little things that do steal their victims shadows if they survive. Now if you don't mind I need to find a Lvl 20 Life Cleric because now I have a huge cut from all that sweet,sweet edge I'm about to see in games cause of this video.
To be perfectly honest I feel like gloom stalker ranger might fit this kind of sorcerer build a bit better than rogue if you're not focused on getting a lot of skills.
5/5 Hexblade warlock Divine Soul sorcerer. By level 10 you have two charisma based attacks (melee or ranged) that you can use Eldritch Smite on. You also have haste for a third attack and spiritual weapon for a 4th attack. Divine Soul sorcerer has sorcerer and cleric spell lists.
Uh, no it's in Xanthars as well. Reprinted for this exact reason, I'll bet. To put all the character options in one supplement. That's also why the swashbuckler and storm sorcerer and other popular subclasses were printed as well.
@@ericpeterson8732 Not everything from the SCAG made it in XGtE, especially not if it's considered setting specific. We don't see the Battle Rager, Purple Dragon Knight or the Blade Singer in anything besides the SCAG. The SCAG cantrips obviously exist on other spell lists, but they are heavily tied to the Blade Singer wizard tradition which in turn is heavily tied with the Forgotten Realms setting.

I like to think of this as an assassin type build in that the man is searched for weapons and the guards find none and then finds the target alone and kills him with the shadow blade and then slips away into the crowd and disappears
Shadow Blade spell conjures a weapon that you use like any other weapon, so in my table I'd rule that the spell itself has no damage dice that you can reroll. That said, if I was playing Sorc/Rog I'd still try to haggle that from my GM :D
Great build guys I'm a fan of a Sword Bard 15, Hexblade 3, paladin 2 gish build. Helps reduce the MADness and allows you to wield whatever weapon type you want with your cha.

I’m looking to create a Drow Oathbreaker Paladin/Shadow Sorcerer as a villain that the party has screwed with before. It’s a party of three adventurers and I want her to be a challenge for them on her own (with undead minions). Did think about having her working with a necromancer supplying her with undead, but still working out all the details.
I would really love to see a great seductress build... how would you built it up... race, class, etc... Love your builds... they are so amazing and inspiration to many other builds....

Sword bard gish though. Magical secret them paladin smites, defensive flourish is op. If you need a multiclass get paladin for the true smite or fighter for action surge. Play any strength or charisma race. You can even bias charisma if you want to pocket nova spells.
saw this vid on my list and reminded of my Sorcerer(Divine)6/Rogue(Swashbuckler)7 Drow in which the only trouble i have is to give her some defense in front line fighting (because AC of 20 is not enough). i think my DM plans to go all the way to lvl 20 so should I increase the sorc level or multiclass to another class (fighter/paladin/warlock) ?

really cool idea for a character, i really like it, but for AL you can't boith use Xanathar for your class choices/feat choices and SCAG for your spell choice, you will have to ditch Green-Flame Blade :)
I made a 16 assassin rogue 4 shadow sorcerer with the entertainer background gets a +17 to performance persuasion stealth tools and deception(the performance is a role play perspective)
Speaking of multi classing I’m a 6lvl inquisitive rouge could I multi into something else and any suggestions on a class to go into I’m a winged tiefling if that matters

Recently worked with my DM on a backup character, randomly rolled the race, class, background and abilities. I ended up with a female dwarf shadow sorcerer folk hero. Any brief ideas about possible multi classing? The ability scores I rolled are STR 17, DEX 13, CON 14, INT 15, WIS 12 and CHA 13.
I know you were asking the Nerdarchists specifically, but looking at those stats, I'd go Eldritch Knight. Doesn't add as much to your casting abilities as a true caster, but it makes good use of the stats you rolled without totally losing out on spell slot gains. And what dwarf wouldn't want levels in Fighter, right? :D
@@y2a1979 Thanks for the suggestion! I've always had an interest in playing an eldritch knight. I'll be sure to look into it. Any recommended spells? I plan on using sorcpoints to cast darkness when ever possible.
@@moth-queen Given that you're mixing it with one of the physically weakest classes, you'll probably get even more mileage than my purely Eldritch Knight character did, but Shield would be my first choice. After that, I went with a couple of classics, Burning Hands and Magic Missile. But it will depend on what you've already taken as your Sorcerer spells. If you do this mix, though, I would at least semi-avoid taking Evocation and Abjuration spells with your Sorcerer levels, unless it's for a slot you can't/don't expect to get from your EK levels.
@@y2a1979 I was toying around with a build calculator today and ended up pretty satisfied with 8Sorc/12EK. Character isn't in play yet, running through ToA right now and if I lose my current character this campaign the sorc is my back-up. Already lost one character at level 3.
I like this idea, now there is a shadow monk and a shadow sorcerer I wonder if you could make a character with all the shadow things in the game. I don't have all the books so I don't know what more there is to the shadows other wise I would have done it myself but I want you to make the shadow master because it sounds cool

Hey does anybody know what they're saying at 0:01 in the beginning? "You know Ted, most _____ characters just suck." Is it "gith?" That wouldn't make any sense. "Gish?" What does that even mean??
Gish is a bastardizatiom of Gith where comes from the Githyanki and the first wizard/fighter and now just means someone who can spell sling and weapon attack well, usually through multiclassing.
I think Jarlaxe would be more of a 2nd fighter (action surge) and 17th level Master mind rogue, with maybe a level (or 2) as a Sorcerer (just for the sheer number of magic items used (allowing for the new 5th ed attunement)). comments??

Booming blade is really good if you quicken it but if you have illusionists bracers then you could twin it instead
The problem is that Illusionist's Bracers is tied to GGR (Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica), and GGR is a setting-specific book that's not A.L. legal.

You could go Hexblade/Swashbuckler for a similar style and get that shadow from anyone you kill along with some long range game in case the enemy is really too tough to get near.
Depending on whether your DM considers a lock pick a nonmagical trinket that can fit in your hand, Prestidigitation and Mage Hand with the Sorcerer's Subtle Spell and Arcane Trickster's Mage Hand Legerdemain makes you pretty much uncatchable...
Spell progression is so slow with Arcane Trickster. Also you don't get as many slots as a full caster. Magic initiate helps, but not completely. When you multiclass you are looking for something specific like metamagic or fighting style. AT is a rogue with a couple of magic tricks.

Adventures League allows custom backgrounds. You can fix Haunted One, just add in the missing piece, and it is still legal.

Funny thing. I was planning the same thing but I was planning on going with Thief for climbing and escaping, 3 in ranger for gloomstalker for umbral sight and wrapping it up with 5 in shadow sorcerer so I can get most of the spell i love like enemies abound, haste and still have shadow blade.
Though my build was inspired by Styx
If you take Gloomstalker to 5th you'll get rope trick and an extra attack.
Kobold beast master with a velocoraptor. Lvl 3 then multiclass into fighter. Garentee yourself pact tactics on every hit.
My personal favorite is my gloomstalker/ raven queen warlock drow. He's on the surface on a mission to kill nevromancers
My first character to reach level 20 was very close to this! It was before Xanathar's guide came out using UA, but I grabbed 3 levels fighter samari Midway for action surge and fighting spirit. His background was a Homebrew about selling his soul for immortality, but his existence was tied to our keep and was forced to serve it's owner, our party leader. It was the only way my DM would let me play lawful evil in that campaign, and she constantly tried to kill him off or have NPCs upstage him because of how broken I ended up making him. We roll D20s for stats, and he had 4 maxed out stats at level 1.

@@Bombasaki spam things that don't require attack rolls like create bonfire and infestation then cast darkness you can see through, shadow hound and shadow blade
Arcane Trickster immediately gets you two 3rd level slots which gives you an extra d8 on your Shadow Blade and frees up 2nd level slots for Mirror Image or whatever else, and you eventually get 5th level slots for another d8.

I did a version of this with mark of the shadow elf pally 2 / sword bard 11 with criminal background. Ability breakdown 13/20/12/8/8/16 after racials and asi. elven accuracy. expertise in athletics, investigation, perception, and stealth. Two fighting styles: defense, dueling. Use magical secrets to grab shadow blade and shadows of moil. Crit fish with 2 attacks and smite/blade flourish gets you the extra damage. Used as a scout/thief/melee canon but also has some face skills to help in that roll. How should I finish my levels? Stay bard? Splash rogue/fighter/???
For that background and if you want a lower cr monster to eat your players the Shadow is a good option especially with that whole Strength damaging power they have plus they sneak little things that do steal their victims shadows if they survive. Now if you don't mind I need to find a Lvl 20 Life Cleric because now I have a huge cut from all that sweet,sweet edge I'm about to see in games cause of this video.

To be perfectly honest I feel like gloom stalker ranger might fit this kind of sorcerer build a bit better than rogue if you're not focused on getting a lot of skills.
5/5 Hexblade warlock Divine Soul sorcerer. By level 10 you have two charisma based attacks (melee or ranged) that you can use Eldritch Smite on. You also have haste for a third attack and spiritual weapon for a 4th attack. Divine Soul sorcerer has sorcerer and cleric spell lists.
I'm playing this combination now.

The character can't use Green-flame blade according to AL rules. It comes from SCAG and you guys are using XGtE for your classes.
Uh, no it's in Xanthars as well. Reprinted for this exact reason, I'll bet. To put all the character options in one supplement. That's also why the swashbuckler and storm sorcerer and other popular subclasses were printed as well.

@@ericpeterson8732 Not everything from the SCAG made it in XGtE, especially not if it's considered setting specific. We don't see the Battle Rager, Purple Dragon Knight or the Blade Singer in anything besides the SCAG. The SCAG cantrips obviously exist on other spell lists, but they are heavily tied to the Blade Singer wizard tradition which in turn is heavily tied with the Forgotten Realms setting.

I like to think of this as an assassin type build in that the man is searched for weapons and the guards find none and then finds the target alone and kills him with the shadow blade and then slips away into the crowd and disappears
Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade would work well with Sneak Attack.
Assassin would of been a better archetype in my opinion
Shadow Blade spell conjures a weapon that you use like any other weapon, so in my table I'd rule that the spell itself has no damage dice that you can reroll. That said, if I was playing Sorc/Rog I'd still try to haggle that from my GM :D
Also makes eligible for spells like green flame blade and booming blade.

Great build guys I'm a fan of a Sword Bard 15, Hexblade 3, paladin 2 gish build. Helps reduce the MADness and allows you to wield whatever weapon type you want with your cha.
Hexblade is super strong for that.

No increasing number of player options will ever satisfy the 5e power gamer.
Rogue/Sorc is nice but you might get better results with Warlock instead. Some great invocations to work with darkness as well.
Sure but that wasn't the request. It would be an interesting way to not use hex though. Shadow blade paired with green flame blade. Maybe we'll do redux.

I’m looking to create a Drow Oathbreaker Paladin/Shadow Sorcerer as a villain that the party has screwed with before. It’s a party of three adventurers and I want her to be a challenge for them on her own (with undead minions). Did think about having her working with a necromancer supplying her with undead, but still working out all the details.
I had a character where I planned to take two levels of rogue and the rest as shadow sorcerer. Race was Drow reskinned as a Darkling.
I would really love to see a great seductress build... how would you built it up... race, class, etc...

There is quite a bit you can do with AL builds. It's kind of why we started the series to show case that.

Sword bard gish though. Magical secret them paladin smites, defensive flourish is op. If you need a multiclass get paladin for the true smite or fighter for action surge. Play any strength or charisma race. You can even bias charisma if you want to pocket nova spells.

saw this vid on my list and reminded of my Sorcerer(Divine)6/Rogue(Swashbuckler)7 Drow in which the only trouble i have is to give her some defense in front line fighting (because AC of 20 is not enough). i think my DM plans to go all the way to lvl 20 so should I increase the sorc level or multiclass to another class (fighter/paladin/warlock) ?

really cool idea for a character, i really like it, but for AL you can't boith use Xanathar for your class choices/feat choices and SCAG for your spell choice, you will have to ditch Green-Flame Blade :)

I made a 16 assassin rogue 4 shadow sorcerer with the entertainer background gets a +17 to performance persuasion stealth tools and deception(the performance is a role play perspective)
low wis and inteligence hopefully you have someone else in your party for finding traps/ spotting treasure/bad guys!

Recently worked with my DM on a backup character, randomly rolled the race, class, background and abilities. I ended up with a female dwarf shadow sorcerer folk hero.
Any brief ideas about possible multi classing? The ability scores I rolled are STR 17, DEX 13, CON 14, INT 15, WIS 12 and CHA 13.
I know you were asking the Nerdarchists specifically, but looking at those stats, I'd go Eldritch Knight. Doesn't add as much to your casting abilities as a true caster, but it makes good use of the stats you rolled without totally losing out on spell slot gains. And what dwarf wouldn't want levels in Fighter, right? :D
@@y2a1979 Thanks for the suggestion! I've always had an interest in playing an eldritch knight. I'll be sure to look into it. Any recommended spells? I plan on using sorcpoints to cast darkness when ever possible.
@@moth-queen Given that you're mixing it with one of the physically weakest classes, you'll probably get even more mileage than my purely Eldritch Knight character did, but Shield would be my first choice. After that, I went with a couple of classics, Burning Hands and Magic Missile. But it will depend on what you've already taken as your Sorcerer spells. If you do this mix, though, I would at least semi-avoid taking Evocation and Abjuration spells with your Sorcerer levels, unless it's for a slot you can't/don't expect to get from your EK levels.
@@y2a1979 I was toying around with a build calculator today and ended up pretty satisfied with 8Sorc/12EK. Character isn't in play yet, running through ToA right now and if I lose my current character this campaign the sorc is my back-up. Already lost one character at level 3.

It means a spellsword type character that isn't always done well not sure how to spell it
Gish is a bastardizatiom of Gith where comes from the Githyanki and the first wizard/fighter and now just means someone who can spell sling and weapon attack well, usually through multiclassing.

I think Jarlaxe would be more of a 2nd fighter (action surge) and 17th level Master mind rogue, with maybe a level (or 2) as a Sorcerer (just for the sheer number of magic items used (allowing for the new 5th ed attunement)). comments??

Rogue + wild sorc (tides of chaos) halfling (lucky) or elf (elvish accuracy). All spells are support, defensive or utility.
