Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Angelina’s sister Juliet sitting there, she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day.
Elvis' version is great, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 83 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song.
The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers.
The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister.

Angelina can adapt her voice to almost any genre. Also, Angelina has been writing songs since she was 10 years old - So far 12 have been released: Oslo, What is Life?, Shield, Million Miles, 7th Heaven, Love Don't Let Me Go, Now I'm The Fool, Fire and Rain, All My Fault, Good in Goodbyes, Diamond, and Our Time. Angelina has stated that she has written about 100 songs that have yet to be released. Her songs are taken from her Journal writings. When she was 10/11 she rewrote the Lyrics to Amy Winehouse's Back to Black and Rehab to make them more age-appropriate at that time.
Everything is her wheel house so to speak. Pretty much any genre she attacks and subdues. She appears to really like Elvis and covers him so well. That said it is just one among many great songs. Same place similar time try "My Funny Valentine" it has probably the best vocals I have heard in my 70 years. Thanks for a nice reaction.
The baby and very little girl are Angelina's cousins - the preteen girl is Angelina's sister Juliette and the Piano Player is Rob Christie Director of the Republic Records Los Angeles Studio which is the record label that Angelina has been signed with since she was 14 years old.

I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life She has recently performed at the Nobel Prize 2023, and also performed at the FIFA AWARD, also performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old invited by Norah Jones.
She was also specially invited by Quincy Jones to perform on his 85th birthday in the O2 arena / London. And so on goes the list... She has over 250 songs on UA-cam with cover songs and many originals. Angelina also plays piano and guitar.Angelina, is the young legend! The truth is that within a year or two she will be the artist for the big occasions. and not a artist who tops a list for a week and is forgotten just as quickly. When she sometimes belts is it because the fits in the performances. She sings to us only she can do!
Angelina recently had a sold-out concert in Portsmouth, New Hampshire., where there was an audience from many different country all the way from Australia and from 39 different states in the USA.

You said this was right in Angelina’s wheelhouse. You’re right-and you’re wrong. It’s just an example of the girl with a thousand voices hitting on all cylinders: vocally, musically, artistically, and even visually. She can do this in many different genres-turning the original song on its head, but openly respecting the music and the singer.
Since you’re a jazz guy, you need to watch Angelina’s jazzy cover of Billie Jean. I liken it to Suspicious Minds or Bohemian Rhapsody where Angelina completely disassembles the original and gives us back a stunning take that makes us understand every nuance in the lyrics while she re-interprets the melody as only she can do. With minimalist accompaniment, there is no place for her voice to hide- and she delivers it, kills it while we listen and shake our heads at what she can do. You like scatting? More than any song I’ve heard from Angelina, I can’t imagine any other singer even attempting to cover what Angelina does with Michael Jackson’s iconic gem. Thank you for your reaction and analysis. For me, Angelina is all about singing the story of the song. Every vocal choice adds to the story and the emotion the story was meant to convey. Angelina told us she has written over 100 songs and we have been blessed with 12 to date.

"Unchained Melody" ... the word 'time' could not be sung more beautifully than in her latest version at the recent Nobel Peace Prise ceremony.
All her Adele covers are incredible, Easy on me and All i ask to name two 👍
The pianist Rob Christie (music studio director of Republic Records distribution of UMG, two-time Grammy winner) changed the musical arrangement and Angelina changed the vocal arrangement, but she didn't change the lyrics. Angelina changes the lyrical structure starting with the bridge and gives the song a different meaning than Felton Jarvis and Mark James , Angelina version absolutely fits the lyric better. Once again, many people don't hear and understand the song until Angelina tells the story. 👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣
The producer Felton Jarvis from Elvis Presley cleverly covered this *Mark James song from 1968 in 1969* , Elvis' last #1 hit in the US and #7 of his most successful songs. Felton Jarvis took the original country arrangement completely from Mark James and pushed the song with more speed and additional instruments (wind instruments, violin etc.) and a spectacular backing choir (in the studio version).

Try Now I'm The Fool from her 2023 EP "Old Enough". She very much explores how many ways there are to pronounce the word "soul". It's also currently the only other song from that EP where a video is available.
Also, she performed Unchained Melody at a Nobel Peace Prize event in early December, backed by an orchestra. Excelent!
She covered a total of 13 songs from Adele, including "All I Ask" at age 14, "Easy on Me" and "Love Is A Game" at age 15, and also though only as quite short TikTok snippets "I Drink Wine" at 16, and "Love In The Dark" and "Set Fire To The Rain" last year at age 17.
As you mentioned them, she also did "Rolling In The Deep" and "Skyfall" at age 7, but those sound somewhat rough...

This is a masterpiece and I appreciate your analysis. I've been an Angel for 6+ years, watching all her available performances, and have yet to find her in a "wheelhouse" she couldn't dominate. I've seen a few professional voice coaches make the same remarks you made about her being in her "wheelhouse" and seldom are they referring to even the same genre. She can, and does, arrange songs to make space for whatever improvisations she wants to include. As you have noticed, she has done that from an early age. Her skills, at this point in her life, seem to be completely mastered. For a normal person, that assumption might be valid. I have been following her long enough to know, she has only just begun.

From the very first words, the warmth, tone, passion and sweetness that Angelina manages to instill in this mythical song are truly incredible, you just wish the song was much longer. Her phrasing, backed by her wonderful use of breath and her peculiar jazz tone, always fascinates me and gives me chills every time, I love this absolutely amazing, so personal rewrite of this iconic song, with so many Elvis tribute details. Now it's a different song, but it's also the same, it still has that harmony, but somehow (in a way only Angelina can process) it's even more emotional, it's slower, but it's so close to your soul flow that kidnaps you. 💛🧡❤

Angelina has done quite a few Elvis songs over the years, this being certainly the best of them. Apart from the incredible vocals and arrangement, the production honours Elvis with the black leather and guitar used in the 1968 comeback, the hair style like Pricilla Presley.
To really appreciate her rendition, you would need to be at a live concert - I was there on July 10th 2022, in Norway. This song was part of a three song bonus at the end, emotions were running high in the audience and on the stage, happy tears had been running down her face, she really felt the song, so did all of us in the audience....

Her beehive hairdo, is in the homage to Priscilla.😇🌺Many photographs of her hair exactly like that. And a leather outfit he later wore. The guitar is the Elvis 1968 "Comeback" Guitar. Rob Christie actually owns this one. The two young cousins, are Uncle/Manager Michael's children. The young girl is her sister, Juliette. What are scoops, melismas, riffs, and runs! "Scoops" are fast sliding notes that create a stylistic effect! On "Melismas" 😲 AJ sings a single 🎶 syllable of the lyrics! while moving multiple notes 🎼 at the same time! Both techniques give the song more expressiveness and flair!! When listening to any cover of this song by Mark James, only one question needs to be asked: which artist, read and understood the emotional content within the lyrics and conveyed those emotions to the listener? In my book, only one has done so - Angelina Jordan.

I highly recommend that you do ten year old and then sixteen year old Angelina’s covers of “My Funny Valentine”. The sixteen year old version was videoed in the same sofa and chairs shop this video was taken in. Both versions are just breath taking.

🌟🌟🌟Another great performance that I couldn't find in your lineup was of 10yo Angelina singing "Feeling Good" before a large televised audience. I recommend jumping back to this one, as it gives a good grounding to her vocal technique and power. She's accompanied by a an orchestra with a solid showing of strings and horns.

The song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them. To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aires (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).
Wishing for more content is a criticism I will gladly take ❤️

In summer of 2022 she visited her home country for a number of concerts. I strongly recommend her concerts in Kurbadhagen (It means Garden of the Spa in Norwegian). You won´t regret it. She was so happy to sing again, especially to her friends, after Covid, she cried.
