Absolutely right. Face shape theory misses out on size of forehead. I thought I had oval face for longest time due to my long and broad forehead but I don't. And side bangs have worked for me which theoretically shouldn't.
@@seanstevenson8669 Yes, with measuring tape! She actually has a video briefly explaining how to measure your face. It’s in the first couple minutes of this video: ua-cam.com/video/CvHYaoOW_-c/v-deo.html Her explanation is: 1. pull all of your hair away from your face 2. measure width of forehead 3. measure width of cheekbones 4. measure width of jawline 5. measure length of face After showing how to measure she goes through each common head shape and describes what face shape you would fall into based on your measurements
Finally, a video that addresses the long face shape correctly. I've seen so many videos advising long faces to get bangs to shorten the face but when I tried it just made my face look shapeless, lengthened my nose and made my eyes even smaller. Realised that revealing my forehead made me look so much better and never understood why until I read somewhere that bangs on a long face will draw attention to your midface, not your eyes.
The nose makes a difference, too. I have a narrow face and a high forehead, so I've always read that I should wear straight-across bangs. However, I also have a long nose, so straight bangs make me look the cartoon depiction of a 1950s beatnik. I do sideswept bangs.
@@maggip.1963 thank you for this, I’ve been trying to sort out my hair, and I have a larger nose, oval face, longer forehead. Can not do straight across bangs, nothing not my best look either, I looked her up, and very helpful!
I've been watching your videos for a while, and I always am amazed at how the information you share is not the same as what everyone else shares. It's not a rehash of the same info that float around, stuff I already know or have heard a thousand times. In every video you post I actually always learn something new and useful that I haven't heard anyone share yet. Your videos are really great, thank you so much for all of your help!!!
This is a great video, and I like how you mentioned the drawbacks of face shape theory as well. I have a round face and I'd like to share my personal preference for bangs in hopes someone who also has a round face and reads this doesn't get discouraged if they want to keep their bangs 🥰. For context, my face is round, small and I have a small forehead and voluminous dark hair (it's very easy for my face to become rounder because of this). I keep my bangs short and mostly full (completely full will make my face rounder), just above the brows, this adds drama and attention to my eyes and eyebrows which are my favourite part of my face, while also hiding the forehead enough to make it seem bigger (volume and fluffiness of my natural hair helps with this). I also like to keep the side bangs as you showed in the video to add length to my face. I need to keep them longer like the Selena Gomez pic, it's more flattering on my smaller face. Without bangs, my face can become rounder because of my bulky hair, and with my small forehead exposed the lower part of my face becomes bigger, and my whole face is more plain because there is no attention to my eyes anymore. In short, my bangs change my face dramatically and even as a round face I keep them to highlight the key features of my face. As stated in the video, it definitely is possible to have bangs even with a round face 🥰
You know this type of video helps you a lot in knowing your physical uniqueness and maximizing your natural beauty. I started watching more of videos like this after realizing how weird I looked when I had bangs, or when certain types of clothing didn't look flattering on me or like why wing liner didn't compliment my eye shape. Sometimes when I get my makeup done, I told the makeup artist certain points of my face features that made them wonder how did you know that? Or when my friends and I were casually talking about fashion and suddenly I mention how body shapes affect the clothes we have on etc... I feel my confidence grows better rather than just putting on everything I want just because it's on trend or looking good on others.
This is so accurate, I never agreed with someone more in these type of videos where it seems no one can thing and judge for themselves and just say what others say
Oh my god, finally a video that makes me understand what fringe could suit me. Although I was looking for actual fringes and not hairbands, the theory applies to it literally the same way so this has been extremely helpful! As an oval face shape with a long forehead “ovals can get any type of fringe” has never been helpful. I already have side bangs, but I was trying to find out wether a fringe with a little more hair in the middle would suit me better. I suppose I got my answer. Thank you so much!
omg, thank you I always wondered why my supposed oval face good for all hair styles or whatever felt like BS! You're so right, there's more to consider! Thanks!
Basically just get bangs one day to experiment. If it looks good and makes you happy keep it. If it looks bad, it's hair...it will grow back. Good luck!
People rarely adds pear face shape in their videos so it becomes difficult to gather information about it. But thanks to you this video was really very helpful ❤️🥰
Oh this explains so much! I love bangs, but I do find they can sometimes emphasize the roundness of my face. I have a very short forehead. Side swept bangs or longer side pieces are definitely the most flattering on me. Your explanation makes perfect sense!
I usually lose focus on videos longer than 2 minutes, but this video was so entertaining and went by so quickly at an amazing pace! I loved your explanation and the pictures you used to support it! You’re amazing! Thanks for your help :)
Woa, now I know why side bangs works like a charm for me! Thank u! Your videos are great ❤ btw, this new hair color suits you so much, you look amazing.
Chin! One of your best videos so far! I've always loved your content. It's very informative. But this video is just WOW. It's the best video I've ever seen about cutting or not the bangs, even better than the ones from hairdressers! You brought some critical points that people don't bring it, pretty much what they say is oval shape get it and square shape don't, but you explained way more and gave some exceptions too. Can you bring a video with types of bangs? Thank you for teaching us 🙏
Honestly there is so much more than just everything according to face shape. my parents were giving me straight bangs as a child because I do have a tall forehead, but I have low eyebrows and a bigger nose too.. So I wouldn't say it looked the best.. Just attracted more attention to my nose 😂 I rather have them look at my forehead 🙄😅
Wonderful educational video! For some people like me, figuring out the best hairstyle and makeup is some kind of mystical. I did learn years ago that bangs suited me better than none. Usually people said I looked younger with them so I rolled with it.However, I started to also notice that without bangs, my face looked really long. I have an oval face but a really small chin and a longer nose thanks to that. The bangs really help ease away that long-look. Gonna look through your other videos and see if there's anything about overall hair style since I'm lacking heavily in that department (but generally think shorter is the way to go - perhaps even a pixie.)
This has been so helpful! I have an oval face and without bangs I look like I have such a high forehead…even though it’s really not too high. The appearance though without bangs is very high…now it makes sense. And I was thinking I’m being too critical. Back to bangs for me! Now…where are my scissors?
What about diamond face shape? I struggle so much with haircuts and styles. cuz I think my face is also slightly long or maybe slightly thin/narrow for a "diamond" but it doesnt fit "oval" or "oblong" or any other face shape. Im like ALL cheekbone lol. Most information I have found regarding diamond face shape is very conflicting and always seems like an afterthought. Ppl also tend to use Jennifer Lopez as the only example and I find some people categorize her as something else. So it's very confusing. Your videos make the most sense and you are so skilled at being able to articulate & pinpoint the key differences in a way the is easy to understand. Thank you! and please do a video for diamond faces!! 🥰❤️
Hello, Lani! Side-swept bangs always look amazing on a diamond-shaped face and longer bobs are great as well. The idea is to open up the face by adding a fringe. This will complement the bone structure. I hope this helps! ☺️❤️
This is incredibly helpful!! Everytime a friend gets bangs I go “maybe I should too” BUT I always look terrible in them. I thought maybe I wasn’t styling them right. But now I see I don’t have the face for them cuz I’m pear-shaped! Thank you for this, I love your videos
I’m not too sure what my face type is, but many have described it as a doll-like face. I’ve been able to pull off light bangs down to the brows, side/middle parted bangs, and pushed back (out of the face) bangs. The only style I looked terrible in was the side swept/behind the ears bang style. And no bangs at all also looked weird on me. And I’m also assuming short bangs wouldn’t do my face any justice.
This is such a good video and helps a lot. I have side bangs and was thinking getting those korean bangs but when I was younger I got bangs and it was terrible. But then I saw a video saying that if my forehead fits 4 fingers I should get it. In the end it would turn into side bangs though. However, my face is round like yours and it would make my face smaller and this video just confirms it. I stick with my side bangs.
Terrific information and analysis. We can't change the shape of our faces or our height, so your tips on what to do with what we've got keeps us on the right track.
holy cow! i never thought of this. havent had bangs in years. turned 50 and am thinking of it again. i got a huge for head. dakota johnson and i are the same.
I want to have long hair and thick long straight fringe (like anime girls) but my face is absolutely not suitable for that. But I still want to try it. I know it won't look very well on me, but I don't want to limit myself from having what I want. Also, I used to like a hairstyle on a picture of a pretty woman, and when I had the hairstyle myself I would always be dissappointed with the result, since it wouldn't look as good on me. But lately I imagine myself with the desirable hairstyle, and I think it will be much easier to accept the result

I did get called by my ex reminiscing and realizing how I was good to him(as per him) and how everything was so good and he messed it all up by leaving me for someone else. Guess that was my closure which I might have wanted, without me expecting it. Also me thinking about an ex is right too. Thank you Chris. Be blessed ❤️
Thank you for the differentiation of long face shapes! I have a longer oval face (nobody I ask and ne don’t know if it is barely oval or just a bit too long to be oval) and you mostly either find information that tells you to get bangs ASAP or an oval face is perfect do nothing. But many bangs never looked good on me and I couldn’t figure out why. I wish more people talked about the thirds of the face and how bangs set a different focus on them.
im 59 menopausal and my hairline is receeding and i have a big round face ive bought toppers head bangs i love em they hide my big forehead and my frownlines thank god for wigs
I find her information useful. If I enjoy a certain style and she happens to suggest it is not the best option for my face or body shape I am not simply going to toss out all my , well in this case hair bands. Next time I may try to nail that voluminous ponytail instead but it is just suggestions . If you disagree wear your hair band. BTW thanks for all the info and have a nice day.
I definitely have the long face and I just got bangs and they make me look really bad. But I really love bangs so I should probably get long curtain bangs in that case. Thank you so much this video has been so helpful!!
I have a long forehead and round face, if I use side bangs my forehead looks HUGE. I've been using bangs in different lenghts to discover what works better, and I've seen that when it covers my eyebrows it's the most flattering. Which sometimes makes me conscious about my face's roundness, so I try to let the sides a bit longer and curve them to hide it. I was always in denial about having bangs because I thought it wouldn't suit me, but I'm glad I tried it
I have a really skinny, diamond shaped face with a big forehead and massive(MASSIVE)cheekbones. I think the so called Birkin bangs make me look less skeletal, which is amazing! It kind of neutralizes those features.
My jaw is wider than my forehead, and my eyes, nose, and mouth are all evenly spaced between my forehead and chin. So nothing needs to be hidden, but the length of my face is longer than the width is wide, so I focus on hair styles that appear to widen my forehead and face overall. I like a pixie that is shorter below my ears all the way around with longer, fuller hair above my ears and off my forehead to open my face to give the appearance of width to my forehead. But I don't add a lot of height to the top, as this could add length to my face. I do have bangs, but I have a natural part from left to right. I razor my bangs shorter in the center and let them grow longer to the side. That allows my forehead to be open but have bangs that swoop over and add width to the sides. It takes a lot of thought and study to know what looks good and why and how to correct imperfections lol! TY for your vid, it's very insightful and interesting.
Any recommendations on where to find these hair band products? Thanks - great references here - I have a long face because of long forehead so want to try this out!
I really struggle with findings hairstyle that suits my face and your video is really the only one I've seen talk about the long face. Personally, I have a longer face and both my chin and forehead are big so I have a hard time finding out what really would suit that. This video really helped me out but, I was just wondering if you had any specific hairstyle that I should try out?
I have a wide forehead but have a widows peak and cowlicks at the front so there is no way I can have a fringe that falls straight down. There was nothing I wanted more than bangs when I was young but it just wouldn't work.
I actually don't know what my face shape is I always get confused if it's an oval or heart shape. I have a small for head, small chin, witch nose, jawline and small cheeks. Can you tell me what my face shape is supposed to be from this? It would be great help.
Hi Chi! Thank you for your video. I first viewed your determining face shape video and then moved on to this one. I am still not certain if I have an oblong or oval face shape? I used a seamstress tape to measure the 3 horizontal & one vertical, but wasn’t sure if I was supposed to pull the tape all the way back to hairline for each horizontal measurement or just keep it straight across (not bent) and eye it? The vertical length of my forehead from hairline to in between eyebrows is about 2 1/2”. From there to bottom of chin is about 6”. So, total vertical is about 8 1/2”. If I pull the tape across my forehead from edge of hairline, it’s about 6 1/4-6 1/2”. My jaw is about 3 1/2” width (I think). For the cheekbone width, I am uncertain. If I pull the tape across my nose from ear to ear, that measurement makes my face seem fuller/wider than it looks straight on. If I just have the tape pulled tight and eye it from cheekbone to cheekbone, it’s between 6-6 1/2”, I think. From my profile view, I have a straight, pointy nose with recessed jaw and very small lips. I do not have pronounced cheek bones. Pronounced wrinkles on my forehead. I used to have a LOT of natural curls, but as I have gotten older, I have lost a lot of the curl pattern. The wave and curls are towards the bottom 7”. I wear my hair long (about 10” from the bottom of my chin when I pull the back, forward). I do have some long layers around my face. I am thinking about changing the style up. Any thoughts? Thanks! 😊
Enjoyed the video, thank you. I checked out your site, you don't sell hair bands...I never knew such things existed. Could you or someone reading this, advice me on a good site for hair bangs ? Merci !
Thank you so much. I have an oval face but my forehead is short and I wondered by the longest time why I couldn't wear bangs anymore like when I was a child. I look horrible now with them and I looked even worse when I was way heavier than now.
If your face is longer than it is wide, you may have an oval face shape. If your face is wider than it is long, you may have a round or heart face shape. If your face is twice as long as it is wide, you may have a rectangle face. If your face is as long as it is wide, you may have a diamond or square face shape. I hope this helps 😊
I can't even tell what face shape I have 😓sometimes I think it's round, then I think square, then oval until I'm through every other shape and then back to round
Where did you get your bangs? I’ve always had bangs and my face looks really nice with them (oval face) but I feel like I’m too old for bangs now. I want them temporarily
Very interesting topic hair bangs according to your face my shape is oval face love your video more sensible very educated and good explanation brilliant from femylene
I ♥️ your videos! I was listening to this when doing laundry and, Chi, I thought you were saying hair BAND... 🚫 hair BANG. 😘 My hairdresser and I discuss my options and she says I have a perfect oval shaped face, however I'm hesitant to wear my hair pulled off my forehead cuz of deeper horizontal creases there. That said, I typically do pull my hair back when at home and I'm needing to get stuff done. It's like I think better. 🤔 Anything on that connection/theory, Chi?
Hello, Linda! You can pretty much go for any style you like, but a pair of blunt bangs will be extra flattering. Soft, blunt bangs cut straight across visually flatter oval faces ☺️
Absolutely right. Face shape theory misses out on size of forehead. I thought I had oval face for longest time due to my long and broad forehead but I don't. And side bangs have worked for me which theoretically shouldn't.
so I think mine is not oval!

Thank you!
You're welcome, Dianna! ✨ I hope this video helped you ❤️
I definitely have the long face and I just got bangs and they make me look really bad. But I really love bangs so I should probably get long curtain bangs in that case. Thank you so much this video has been so helpful!!
Great video!! those pictures are so helpful and explanation is very clear. thank you!
You're welcome! ❣️
The difference in Dakota Johnson is crazy.
4:43 idk about that, i find these hair styles pretty interesting, in indie-alternative way. They are not ugly for me, quite opposite.
I really glad you think so 😊
You are so sweet! My hair is a fluffy waivy medium hair, I want to get a wolfcut with bangs! +my face is oval, so its gonna be perfect! Keep it upppp
Yaaay thank you so much!
Thank you for an excellent video with refreshing information that I haven't heard elsewhere. You're amazing!
Hi Chi, great video with excellent content and clear comparisons. 👍💖 Queensland Australia
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have elongated head so I would do better with bangs, but it's impossible to keep them from moving
A bit of mouse before blow drying, a bit of hairspray after blow drying. 👍🏻
Thank you Chi, very helpful video, I have never heard somebody else taking about the subject 🙂
I look nice with any shape of hair bang.
And yes I do have an oval face.
Lucky me!!.
That's good to hear! 🥰
How about big forehead with round face?
I have a heart shaped face and tried to cut a short bang. I didn't wanna leave the house for weeks 🤣
Same here, I looked like a freak
Hey can you tell which bangs suit short forhead but it's not too short?🙂
Although I am 5'7 I still love your channel new subscriber you are wonderful lady so grateful to have you in my life 🙏💜
Always such detailed videos answering te Whys & Whys don’t. 😍
Great video Chi!
Thanks, Suzan! ❤️
I have a wide forehead but have a widows peak and cowlicks at the front so there is no way I can have a fringe that falls straight down. There was nothing I wanted more than bangs when I was young but it just wouldn't work.
Absolutely beautiful and love from Australia 💕
Thank you so much! ❣️
This woman is amazing.
Thank you, Lydia! ❤️
Thanks! 😊
Thank you so much! ❤️
I have said it before! You are brilliant
Thank you, Mary! 🥰
Enjoyed the video, thank you. I checked out your site, you don't sell hair bands...I never knew such things existed. Could you or someone reading this, advice me on a good site for hair bangs ? Merci !
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much. I have an oval face but my forehead is short and I wondered by the longest time why I couldn't wear bangs anymore like when I was a child. I look horrible now with them and I looked even worse when I was way heavier than now.
You're welcome!
I’m really struggling figuring out what my face shape is 😢
If your face is longer than it is wide, you may have an oval face shape. If your face is wider than it is long, you may have a round or heart face shape. If your face is twice as long as it is wide, you may have a rectangle face. If your face is as long as it is wide, you may have a diamond or square face shape. I hope this helps 😊
@@PetiteDressing Thank you so much
I can't even tell what face shape I have 😓sometimes I think it's round, then I think square, then oval until I'm through every other shape and then back to round
Nice video!! Need one for selecting the ideal glasses shape!
Thank you so much! ❤️
Thank you 😉I almost made bangs and probably would of regretted it.
You're welcome 😊
Very thoughtful and helpful
Aw! Thank you, Suman! ✨❤️
I find your channel interesting and useful! Thank you!!
You are so welcome ❤️❤️
Where did you get your bangs? I’ve always had bangs and my face looks really nice with them (oval face) but I feel like I’m too old for bangs now. I want them temporarily
you are spot on. well done
Glad to hear that! Thank you, Victoria! 😊
This is the best explanation, thank you!
You're welcome! ❣️
What about diamond face? 😢
I have Heart shape face and also i have widow's peak, what kinda bang should i get
You can try straight-across bangs or long and piecey ones
Who do you dress to not make your arms look short/petite? I ask because I’m 5’0
Very interesting topic hair bangs according to your face my shape is oval face love your video more sensible very educated and good explanation brilliant from femylene
So nice of you, Femylene! Thank you 💕
I ♥️ your videos!
@@PetiteDressing Thank you.
Best video about this whole topic! I understand it now :) Thank you so much!
That's great, Keah! You're welcome 🥰❤️
So what about oval shape without wide forehead?
I'll take note of this!
@@PetiteDressing Thank you!
Thanks! I l always wonder if bangs would be cool on me. Now I know that I should never try XD
Thank you Chi. Excellent information. Thanks. 👍😁😘
Glad it was helpful!
