If you hold your brush upside down, allowing the water to drip down, it will go into the ferrule which will dissolve any glue causing the bristles to fall out and down to the handle causing it to rot if its wood. Not something I'd do to my brushes.
Using hot water or not drying your brushes after is what will cause issues with the glue in the ferrule.
