The idea of a Hero Shooter Gamer reading a comic book is hilarious. No This won't replace comic characters because there will hardly be any crossover between game and official continuity
There are people that are huge fans of Spider-man and have never read a Spider-man comic. They grew up watching Spider-man cartoons. Saw the Spider-man movies. Play Spider-man video games. Collect Spider-man statues. But have never read a comic.
This literally makes no sense. If anything it's going to drive people to read the comics. Like me. I never read a comic book until I started playing Rivals. I can't be the only one.

These guys bring up a really bad point in this too saying that “if this game like this is was ever to take hold and become the next world or Warcraft, how relevant would marvel comics be?” That’s such a bad point he made. When World of Warcraft was the popular game they had die hard fans who would buy any lore book they put out. And they still have diehard fans to this day.
This is a hero shooter, which is hard to actually get right, because Overwatch has always been the game to stand out on its own, but thats just a milking station for pay piggies now. OW, not 2, on release, was an experience that stands out on its own, the chaos that came from what OW was, was something that couldnt be replicated by any other dev team/company that tried. Im not a fan of blizzard, but even with all the issues, Team4, did something truly great. Overwatch always gave players free updates, even though you bought the game, this went on for years ( things got worse when they split their focus towards PVE/OW2 but still they didnt stop updating the game) if you want a DEI game, its overwatch 100%. Look up "venture" the tumblr "bro" hero who was designed by AI to tick all the right boxes (look up blizzards AI algorithm for designing heroes lmao). Yes this is made by Chinese devs, thats true, but they make mobile games, this Rivals game is completely different from what they normally do. I dont know everything about them, so give me some leeway here, but they are doing something which is hard to create. A genuinely fun, chaotic experience in a hero shooter. Overwatch, was directly inspired by comics and superheroes. Its very fitting that the only way to "beat" overwatch, was to use real superheroes and Rivals is doing the extras that OW did, but in the game. Im pretty sure they are going to add the comics inside the game too, I think that was mentioned somewhere, as comics were always ignored by casuals who didnt want to dig through blizzards website for OW comics. Over the years, Ive stopped enjoying shooters, in general, I would much rather play Monster Hunter or Souls games/Elden ring, Rivals has blown my mind in ways I didnt think possible. I cant remember the last time I had this much fun in a shooter. The devs, actually want to make a good game, and a part of that meant listening to players who have been burned by other shooters. Theyve been doing surveys and directly taking shots at overwatch, halo infinite, and others. They are taking shots at the monetization of these games as well, not just the quality of the game. Rivals has a store and a battlepass. Im not buying something but I will say this, the devs are listening to players. If you buy the battlepass, its permanent, which means you can work on it whenever you want too. Overwatch 2 and infinite, have some of THE WORST battlepasses even though infinite had permanent BPs. This is more Marvel than Marvel is and I am not saying Rivals is 100% perfect either.
Maybe the "woke" version, the comic book industry went off a cliff years ago as it seemed feminists were taking over out of spite and quality died. Seems it's currently reminding people of what was there.
As far as licensing it’s already happening with Marvel and Japanese Manga/Viz and the. You have DC’s doing the Star Wars Visions thing with Batman. I love how the devs decided that The FANTASTIC MTHRFCKING FOUR were picked because they are marvels first family. Its already a good game, giving people a bunch of reasons to fall in love with superheroes for the first time OR again, however, it warms me up a bit on the inside knowing thats the reason. Not only do they look good, but their kits are CRAZY fun. Is it illegal to make superheroes fun in the west????? I cant wait to bonk heads together, I dont even care if I dont love his kit when I play him, Id main him just for the laughs. I would have expected this with Hulk or the Thing, I cannot wait for the smack talk that comes from Mr fantastic. Sues already taking shots at Nay morrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lmao. They are adding more content in one season, than overwatch can manage to scrap by with in over half a year. 2 heroes a season is wild but 4 heroes together in the first season is just insane?????????? New game modes and maps are already on the way which is good too, the game needs it, however Ill happily wait if it means that these maps will have even crazier changes during a match. Its so nice to get a hero shooter that doesnt generate new characters with an AI algorithm.
I don't understand we have then big studios with these comic book companies and we have zero synergy between what's the Studios are marking and the comics. I see what Japan does with manga, where they basically grow a good manga and or Light Novel series for like three years or so. When it's ready adapt it into an anime and when people see the anime there is already like five volumes of it they buy can buy as merch ready to go. Why can't like DC make a Batman or Superman comic series with the idea of in three years this will be an animated TV series that will sell these comics later.
I believe that Multimedia interest in Marvel characters does not translate into sales of the publishing of current books. Silver age comics and TPB’s are the thing that gets a boost from a characters popularity popping. And it doesn’t draw in new readers or consumers. It only promotes current customers to spend more. Marvel desperately needs to cultivate new readers but on that end it is flatlining.
@ 22 pages for $4+ makes zero sense in the 21st century. Only old heads are going to subscribe to that model out of nostalgia. The floppy model is not the arena where you are going to build new readers. Therefore, not keeping floppy comics catered towards your current audience of old heads doesn’t seem reasonable to me. As soon as I see OGN accounting for 50% of Marvel or DC’s catalogue that’s when I will know they are actually trying to grow. I’m not talking about tpb’s or collections, I’m talking about graphic novels like Rage of Ultron or the Season One books. I also think it would be beneficial for marvel to license out their characters in ernest to Viz Media or start a manga publishing wing at Marvel.

I've heard that the Comic adaption of Injustice was pretty good, Would love to see what kind of comic adaption Marvel Rivals would have, I haven't play the game but those versions of the character looks fun.
If Disney was smart they would use the popularity of Rivals as an opportunity to bring in real talent into the comic. even if they cannot make profit off the comics, comics are a good place to test out new stories and characters. hell maybe send the comics to China, the west seems to dum to curate its own ip.

Concords failures are layered and multi faceted. Their 1st mistake was trying to jump on a trend. Their 2nd mistake was not being able to respond to the trend in a rapid fashion. They had 6 months to get in and be all in on the trend and they took 8 years. Yes. The task of developing an entire game in 6 month is impossible. Hence why these 2 major mistakes are the biggest parts of the failure. Everything after these 2 major misteps was just dirty toilet paper on top of a steaming turd. Discussion of character models is relevant here, because the studio is positioning these "characters" for use in other games. They want to make something off them. But thats the issue. In a competitive market place, sex sells and these characters were made to be unsexy.
Concord might well be worth a heap of money to have a physical copy in the future.. Look at the ET Atari game... How awful it is meant squat, in comparison to rarity.. People will play it for its Cult value (The Room, for example).... And Rivals looks awesome... But (and granted I have only played a small amount of time) it'd be better if it had more dynamics, like a story-mode... ROCKET RACOON LOOKS INSANE! And happy to have Cloak & Dagger.

Reskinned overwatch? LMAO NO. Overwatch was easily one of my fav shooters but Rivals is evolving the hero shooter formula where OW went down hill. Rivals is doing what OW did at the very beginning, when there was the capacity for 6 of the same hero on one team. Rivals is doing what Overwatch didnt do, which was improve the game. Overwatch made the game easier by adding in heroes who are easier to play. Rivals is doing the exact opposite, which is to make heroes complex and opening windows for players to create unique interactions with their teammates. Rivals is nothing like overwatch for the majority of its life cycle. Let me give examples from me dipping my toes into Rivals. I was a junkrat player, I instantly fell in love with Squirrel Girl (which blew my mind) because they didnt just put her in the game, everything about her kit is full of personality just like junkrat, but even better. Not only are their kits similar, but they are completely different at the same time. SG in an evolved form of Junkrat, who is now a bland, boring character to play as. Rivals made SG cool, which Im still surprised by, I dont even understand how this is possible haha. its so wild. The punisher has a deep kit full of variety, everything about his kit, makes me want to learn how to play him because its just fun though. Overwatchs undoing, is partially because every single hero in OW2, needs to have a jack of all trades kit, so these heroes can never truly be great. The punisher has more variety than any ow2 hero, and yet he feels like hes meant to be like that, hes designed to have flexibility. The punisher also has an ult which reminds me of mauga, one of the very worst heroes to ever be released because he was "the meta" and you had to buy him from a battlepass lmao. Overwatch devs always tried to make every character unique, as in their kits never bleed over each other. RIVALS has a whole crap ton of abilities that are similar but yet they are always different because the characters that use them, make them more unique. Seasonal team ups and being able to destroy the walls etc...are some of the coolest things to add. Not only do they make every match more unique, but they open windows for higher skill ceilings in ranked I bet. Im not playing ranked, but allowing more complex ideas into the game is something that overwatch did not do. Let me give an example. Overwatch, in the early days (after hero limited to 1), stood out a lot because the tanks created unique synergies that just couldnt be replicated. How many players, who dont like shooters, played OW because it used to be one of the best experiences for tank mains? How many of those players fell of, when OW went down hill? How many fell off when OW2 took away tank synergies completely?? By taking away the 2nd tank slot, they destroyed any creativity the game had, because it always starts with the tanks. My fav tanks were wrecking ball and orisa, the devs ruined both of them by making them jack of all trades tanks :(. Rivals is doing what OW did right, and making it better. Rivals is looking at OW/2s failures and learning from them.
Overwatch ended up failing because Blizzard didn't support it right. Huge content droughts, bad balancing, and the terrible shift to Overwatch "2". Rivals has a better chance if it has better support.
Kids don’t know who Mr.Fantastic is. They think he’s a Luffy copy. Bridges and pipelines like this are needed to keep these characters alive.
If anything this is going to help the comic industry. People who don’t know these characters might end up liking one and picking up there comics.
