This is a fine video, but I'm not sure you state anywhere what the type of battery is. (It's a BR2032, btw.)

Why would one do this? Like what symptoms does the Mac show to do this

Your Mac mini will forget various settings when this battery dies. In my case, I would configure my display but when I restarted the computer it did not remember my settings. This is only one example of many possibilities. I do think Apple could've made this battery replacement a little easier.
