- So I realize this is kind of a risky time to be releasing a guide on how to build a computer with the release of The Verge's not so successful guide.|
However, I was actually already making this guide before that video came out because a lot of people on my channel have been requesting it so here it is.
ON THE CHANCE that you find any mistakes or see things that need clarification, point them out. The best comment will be pinned and I will respond to it and/or address it however need be, but from what I can see after the time I spent on this video, I believe it to be a guide that will help any person be able to build a computer on their own whether it be their first or 100th time building.

I want to thank Kris for this video. Having been convinced by people half my age ( yes you Paul, Linus, Jayz ),
that this was possible. I have watched a pile of videos, but this is the only one that showed me what a 'standoff' screw looked like
up close and actually made me think I could do this successfully. Thanks for the clarity and honesty, much appreciated
and very helpful.
Hey man I could still be half your age. Asians don't age until they turn 60 then boom we look like Mr. Miyagi
Love Miyagi and could 'wax off wax on' with the best. But would rather have you
for computer knowledge! Best wishes Alan.

I have to say that you're among the very VERY few creators who actually made a video for beginners when advertising a video for beginners.
Most other beginner videos on YT are simply a bunch of smug pros almost making sure that no beginner understands more than 5 words of what they're saying. Or maybe I'm just a moron idk. But thank you so much for this video, truly appreciated

You deserve way more subscribers: this build guide is the most detailed yet simple guide i've ever seen.
Since your motherboard was used, it was missing the plastic cover that was keeping the pins safe. If you order a new motherboard, don't throw it away like The Verge, keep it in case you sell the motherboard or you need to cover the pins. The cover usually flies off when you start to push the arm down after you've placed the CPU. No need to take it out before.
He already had the board...
My point was that it says Full Tutorial, but is missing a step where people might get confused.
Just to remind you guys, the very important part in building a PC is to build it with confidence!
Where do I put the tweezers and Swiss army knife?
Just put the tweezers somewhere inside your case and same with your knife so people can see it through your panel. I usually put it on top of my graphics card. 😜
Fasten them inside with the allen wrench
Just jam it into your extra ram slots or maybe pcie slots.
Open your power supply (it keeps it cooler) THEN, make sure all the blades are out and drop it into your power supply. This will make your PC look sharp. The tweezers can be used to uh tweeze the knife to one of the big capacitors in the power supply for more stability.
That hopefully has a screwdriver
But you didn't make sure the the PSU was on rubber dampeners, isn't it going to short out?
Where's the tic-tac-toe thermal pastery? *UNSUBBED!*
oh lord
do as verge did apply paste like it's a honeymoon happyending XD
Nah, the Verge method of applying thermopaste is more accurately described as "pile of bird shit"
You mean you arren't supposed to glob ten tubes on there?
I used to assemble PCs and servers at work but those were usually not so fancy on the aesthetic/modern HW side, so having a guide by an awesome youtuber is a great reference. Thanks!
I don't know how clear and specific this guy explain this i already know how to build, before this video i have no idea. Thanks Krstofer :).
oh sorry, I missed half of the video because I was too busy reading the Verge jokes in the comments

Just used this tutorial to build my first PC... it booted up with no problems!! :) Thanks for the helpful guide!
This is a good palette cleanser after The Verge's PC build.
This is a very helpful pc build tutorial for a novice like myself. Let’s also pretend I made a joke related to The Verge pc build to keep in line with the other comments
No thank you, I only trust the verge
G Kang really?
Verge is doo doo jm a beginner and verge was real wrong
r/woooosh
@Lachlan Chandler that was the joke
It's a bit nitpicky but I'd argue that the CPU is more of the brain of the computer, while the PSU is the heart, pumping power to all the components that need it.
Nah, the psu is the mitochondria

This is one of the most helpful build tutorials I have ever watched. Thanks Kris!!
I've never built a PC and I plan to soon. I've watched quite a few tutorials on how to put together PCs but I've still been left with questions. This video answered all of those questions and showed me more of what I need to know to build a PC that other tutorials didn't mention. Great video, 9/10, not enough thermal paste.
well your comment is a month old, have you built the pc? if yes, how did it go?
@@ChefSporty I did! The building part went very well, got all the right parts and put them in the right places. Installing the OS was the hard part. Usually you would use an existing Windows PC to make a bootable USB drive, but my house only has Macbooks. So we tried to download it through the Macbook using some coding magic, but for some reason it never worked. Long story short, after about a week I went to a family member's house and used his Windows PC to instal the drive, and it worked. Not sure why the Macbook didn't do it but I no longer care. After about 2 weeks of pain and confusion I eventually ended up with my own working PC and I love it
@@LeoD.J damnn that sounds so cool! congrats on your build! i want to build a pc but i’m kinda in the same boat as u were now that i think about it. i only have macbooks so i’ll try to research more on how to get windows for the new pc
@@ChefSporty Yeah do some research. It might be possible to make a bootable drive through a Mac, I could have just done it wrong. But if you have a friend or family member with a Windows PC, I would recommend asking if you can use it for the drive. It'll be much less risky since you're downloading it the way it was intended.
@@LeoD.J yeah i’ll try, now that i think of it my neighbors do have a windows computer! thanks for the help man
I'm so relieved by the length of this video. I'm working on a verge PC parody video and it's getting long. "Console Peasant Builds His First PC" isn't really a guide by any means, but it is start to finish. From the explaining the tools you'll need to the benchmarking. Also, grand video.
Best UA-camr ever
Hey thanks AssHole
Lol...
XD
Agreed
My only real critique is to always place the ram in the slots based on the manufacturer's suggestions and not to "give space for the air cooler." maybe suggest an air cooler that has sufficient ram clearance instead?
I wish I found your channel before I bought all my parts lol. All these other UA-camrs kept using these tech terms I didn’t understand until after a few months of watching different videos everywhere and drawing connections between them . Thank u for explaining it all so clearly!
Always come back to this guide, thanks for this fantastic guide Kris
You forgot to add enough thermal paste to glue the cooler to it for maximum cooling potential. You also need to add more foam and whatnot under the power supply so it doesn't ground out and electrocute you while you're using it.
Lmao. I should be a comedian 🤣
Don't forget the tweezer XD
If it ain't smoking you aren't doing it right....theverge! XD
bruh the verge wrote ur entire standup for you...
This is the best video I seen so far, nobody goes in depth about the wiring, or even the proper screws to use..someone that's never built a pc wouldn't even know what screws to use for mobo..
Thanks a lot! Just bought, for the first time, my computer parts by my self and figuring out how to get all together. This video saved me a lot!
26:39 dude the bottom fan on the PSU sucks air in, the air is exhausted out the back of the PSU
27:02 OH NO NO NO! mah dude, the fan is an exhaust fan !!
the 2 front fans are sucking air in...
you got messed up there.
29:03 you could have opened the back panel and screwed the CPU cooler bracket without removing the mobo from the case.
31:23 you could have used a zip tie (or tweezers like the Verge called them ^^)
maybe you want to redo that build guide, not perfect at all.
geez little harsh at the end
I was cringing soo hard when he messed up which way the air intakes 😭😭
I was about to ask which case takes in air in the back, and exhausts it in the back. I've never seen that.
I thought I was dumb enough to think he was wrong with the air direction of fans. Thanks for correcting him.
Hope this gets pinned! Very good guide, but this something that new people needs to know.
The 1 dislike is a The verge sub, and prefers a messy pc.

This is honestly the best step by step video you even included what each part is for most people skip that leaving us ( the consumers ) clueless so thank you
I just found you around 3 months and I was planning on building my first PC. This has been VERY VERY helpful. Thank you Kris.
oh god!!! i was laughing out loud when you clarified 'Z' doesn't mean motherboard is overclockable! I know that wasn't THAT funny, but common, who thinks motherboards can be overclockable man!
Idk if I’m bout to be wooshed but ima try to help rn.If motherboards are not overlockable you can’t overclock cpu
👊😏 26:20 Buddy, ur going Full Verge on Me, a couple of boo boos but maybe theres more... the big fan on top of the psu is an intake fan so it sucks air into the psu case then that air is pushed out the back of the pc case. And the case fans, ur front case fans are oriented to suck air into the case, and the back fan next to the cpu is going to suck the hot case air and blow it out the back. Personally I always try to orient the psu fan facing into the case ala old school retro way however many psu cables are stupid short so if u do that make sure u have extensions for the 4pin cpu plug ☺️ And dont worry about the mistakes u did, its difficult to be perfect when you are recording video, thats what happened at The Verge they were in too much of a hurry and no one quality controlled the video 🤠🐂🐃
I must point out though that he can flip the fan to blow air either way.
Yeah, I noticed this too..and for a second I almost doubted my fan orientation knowledge because I usually trust Kris. Lol but glad to know someone else noticed this too
@@Teacher5000 🙂 yes, the motor side is the exhaust side
I came across your channel a few days ago and absolutely love it. I've always been interested in computers but only knew an average amount about them. Your channel has really improved my knowledge and given me the courage to want to try building my own rig! I appreciate the great content. Keep it up!
at 26:50, Usually, fans take in air from the exposed fan blades side and exhausts out where the beams hold the fan blade and motor, so the single fan you pointed out was the exhaust fan and the two front fans are the intake.
Also I believe the power supply takes in air from where the fan is and exhausts it out the ports near the plug socket/switch
I can’t wait to get home from school today and watch all of this
Perfect! Thank you so much i needed this video keep up the good work!😁😁

I've already built my PC before I discovered this channel, but I still like to watch these kinds of tutorials. Thanks for the vid, watched this while building my own!
Hey, loved this video. It actually taught me stuff i didnt know. good job and thanks.
I build my first computer last year, and spent a half a year before that getting into the PC tech univers. I have watched all the big tech youtubers to acces my todays PC tech knowledge. I saw you first time doing the cringe Verge building guide, i got a good impression of you, and wanted to see what els videos you have been doing. You are very down on earth and have not become "too" geeky for the normal guy to understand what you are talking about and you limit yourself to the relevant and not high tech geeky level. Thx alot you are my new favorite :)
Dude I cant put it into words how much I thank you. I am 10 years old and built a pc using your guide. Thank you!
Better than the Verge.
Very informative I learned a lot
31:05 I think you mean "tweezers"
I have already build PCs three times, yet still watching till the end. Just an example of a good good tutorial/guide.
I haved seen many a "how to build" but yours just comes across as relaxed and an easy listen which just makes the whole experience enjoyable and educational, in that I have some confidence for future upgrades... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
thanks man this is such a big help for my first build xD :)
Thx u are very helpful your the best pc tech guy
Finally, another beginners guide to building a computer. This I’m going to need in a couple of months.
I know this is an old video and a lot of people have been making jokes about the PC made by Vergina, but I just want to mention that when you explaining airflow, you got the direction of the fans backward. Fans blow toward the structure that holds the hub. They blow toward to concave side, away from the convex side. (as a general rule)
Even if what I described is the exception and not the general rule, I have that exact case and the fans that come with it and they follow the pattern I described above.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, just mentioning a slight mistake.
pc made by vergina??
@@DGDGDGDG It was the only pun that referred to them as pussies that came to mind...
Im a bet confused by how you said the intake is the rear and the exhaust is in the front kris but your fan was place correctly front intake and rear exhaust..
Thanks for this Bro!
Just in case new builders are skeptical of it being “outdated”; I built my first PC last week with this tutorial playing in the background (mind you, I’ve sat through the whole video a month or two back when I decided I was gonna build a PC) and I couldn’t be more happy w how my rig turned out.
14:45, Most motherboards recommend that you run Ram slots A2/B2 for the dual channel. if you run A1/B1 it doesn't harm your computer, it just doesn't run as efficiently as it possibly could. You put the ram slots in the correct spots, but it is worth a mention that there are recommended ram locations.
Sorry , but i believe that ' The Verge ' did a better job . So for my very first build , i will follow ' The Verge ' guide !
Thanks anyway ;-)
WHY IS THE COMMENT SECTIon NOT DISABLED

Mate, great guide. I love that you when you forgot the cpu bracket you show the process of back tracking rather than just talk through it afterwards. I really love the detailed explanation of how things work and how to plug in cables - so daunting for me when there are all these spare power cables and Im not sure if Ive used the right one or not plugged in something that Im meant to.
Why didn't you use tweezers?
4:17 "not necessarily enough for a beginner to notice, but it'll definitely help"
4:21 "It will help with your performance, maybe not enough for a beginner to notice, but it is definitely worth it."
Mistake 1 😂😂 I kid. I know ya meant to cut that first one out and used the 2nd.
I really appreciate this video, I was thinking of building a pc myself and I didn’t know where to start. Thanks for the help
When applying the thermal paste to the CPU make sure to put on a big dollop on your finger and just rub your finger all over the top, don't mind if you spill over. That will just improve performance.
I still find that funny
When you applied the thermal paste with your finger. How'd that without btw?
The build starts at 10:51
I recomend listing to every else he had 2 say but I know you won't because your impatience
UrAvgGamer hey i watched it all but i dont trust him because he didn’t have a allen wrench or tweezers
Even though i know how to build, I like it how u explain
Thank you so much! I was having trouble with the build but then I re-watched your video and got it done! Took way too long for me though. Again, thank you so much!
Blimey, you didn't even really hammer in the "brace"! :) Nice work, thanks!
Can’t you just attach the motherboard directly to the front of an Air conditioner to keep it cool?
I just have Kanye west hold mine.
don' bother with a case it's overated, just have all of it assembled on a carpet for a nice open air design, longlive the verge! XD
When I built my last pc, it wouldn't boot up and in frustration i eventually just took it to a shop. turned out the motherboard came in DOA. The shop (it's a canadian computer store..hint hint) replaced my 8 sata port motherboard with a 4 (!!) sata port motherboard.
I dunno if the person was lazy or they didn't have any in supply and didn't want to order one. But now I will forever need a pci e sata card
most tech youtubers just build PCs with two drives so if that's your use case and a single 2/4/6 terabyte drive is sufficient then the above won't apply, but just in case...
Never knew building a pc is really this easy because I only play on consoles but after watching this video I'm going to build myself a gaming pc. I already have made my dream pc specs:
Asus TUF B450M Plus Gaming/ASRock B450M Pro4
Ryzen 5 3600
AMD stock cooler (Wraith Stealth)
GTX 1660 Super
16GB 3200MHz 2x8
EVGA B5 650W
NZXT H400i
Gigabyte NVMe SSD 512GB
I don't know if this specs can get 60 FPS (average) in all modern games at ultra settings 1080p but I hope it can. Atleast most of the modern games because I know that there is a lot of unoptimized or demanding games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019, ARK: Survival Evolved, etc.
I'm building a PC whilst watching your video your a brilliant PC builder your confidence comes across so I trust what your saying without you I'd still be a console pleb hahaha. Thanks dude great video liked and subscribed

That means you're early ;)
Now we have 1080p
Who's using this to build a PC rn
no shit, that‘s what it is for, its a tutourial
sorry if that sounded rude :)
Nice build ! the only thing you got "wrong" was the case fans, as they blow air in the opposite direction than you showed in the video. If anyone watching this for their first build is having trouble understanding, the side with a plastic cross section (you'll see wires running through them) is where the air will be GOING , and the side without a cross section is where the air will be COMING from :)
Yo kristofer just wanted to say thank you for this video. Just built my first pc using this video and it went without any hiccups. I will be posting my experience this weekend on my channel. So thanks again bro, it was such a satisfying experience
You should check the orientation of your fans... he was completely wrong about intake/exhaust. And please make sure you are not blowing hot air on to your ram but out towards the exhaust fan in the back...
how would I tell this? the whole fan orientation thing did confuse me a lil but I been monitoring my cpu n gpu temps and they have never gone about 40 celcius so I should be good right?
You also have to consider your vrm temps which arnt monitered... as long as airflow is going thru from one end to the other orientation isnt a huge deal... however you dont want you heat sync fan blowing hot air on you ram modules. The easy way to tell is the frame side of the fan is exhaust and the side with the fan blade exposed is the intake side. In theory the blades should always be facing the front panel so they are pulling air in from the front and out the back. Even if one of them is on a radiator same thing. Also make sure your cpu heat sync fan is pushing air from the ram module side toward the back exhaust fan...
@@cjwest10159 so from that pic I need to switch the fan to the other side?
@@ThePatmanGaming no... the worst part about this is the fans are all facing the right way but he explained it all wrong. And he actually installed his cooler fan right but also explained it wrong and his whole theory behind it doesnt make sense... so yes go by the pictures... and just make sure your air flow is doing from front of case to rear and you cpu cooler (if air cooled) is also flowing in that direction... if you also have a radiator at the top it is best to exhaust to out with the fans pushing thru from the inside of case otherwise you may mess with your airflow. I suggest going to bitwit or paulshardware channels as they have an amazing amount of knowledge on pcs and they have so many different build guides that explain all of the little things that so many new builders overlook simply because they are in experienced. If you gonna learn you should learn right the first time from someone who knows their shit. And good luck. Pc building is an awesome hobby even for beginners.

@@justaperson8815 Agreed, but these kids aren't mature enough to move on, it's pretty obvious as you scroll through the comments, I mean, that video is weeks ago...
Fishing Kid Exactly, every video now people are commenting saying stuff like " You did it wrong, you didn`t use a Swiss army knife. It was funny for a few days then it became rather old fast.I `m amazed how badly he messed up, were as if he knew seen a desktop before. I never learned did research or anything on how to build a Pc i learned by taking apart a gateway desktop and putting it into a hp case because i liked the case more.People say you shouldn`t work on carpet but my room has carpet so i just either sit on the floor or on the bed working on it.Never had a issue with ESD because i constantly ground myself before touching any component. So there really isn`t any reason why he should of messed up so horribly but he somehow manged to.He learned from it shortly after and knows how to build a Pc correctly now which is all that matters.
