Dude. Hit the head on the nail. You can also buy a bunch of games off Mercari and stuff but its always awesome to hit up a goodwill or a second hand store and find some games.
@@IowaRetroGamerDad yea I havent purchased a game at retail in 2 years. All my pick ups are random games I find at the thrift stores. Theres a ton of games I want but I'd I don't find them in the wild for cheap or find someone to trade with, then I'm not purchasing the game. I'm also not the type to collect every game, just the ones I want to actually play.
@@IowaRetroGamerDad just the other day I found a box full of dreamcast goodies at a goodwill for $50. I really couldnt believe it, theres was 22 games, a console, arcade stick, 6 boxed controllers, 5 new and 1 used, 2 light guns, 2 brand new vmus and 2 used vmus, 6 loose controllers, and a fishing rod.
TBH not so much anymore. Everyone thinks they have gold and are selling em like gold. I blame the smartphones that allowed for people to search up prices on eBay regardless if it sold or not and pick the highest price.
It is still fun, but, we all have to acknowledge : "the bigger our collection gets, its more difficult to find those particular titles in the wild/regular stores. And with the big fluctuations on the prices, now it's harder to find good deals. Still fun, but it can get frustrating and frightening expensive at times lol
I still buy games, but only games I really want to play. I cut my SNES collection down from 350 to 100. Cut NES from 200+ to 30. Etc etc. I still go to flea markets and thrift, but I'm a lot less hardcore. I mostly look for CDs at this point. Fun because you can find awesome stuff for $1 each. It's like the good ole days of game hunting
yup still fun of course, just so awesome when ur hobby or passion is cheap and easy (y) thank god for emulation if ur truly just in it for gaming :D as long as shit can be preserved cuz the ip owners and developers sure aren't doing it, that's what fans are for
Yea bro I agree. When I was in high school back in 2011-2014 that was the time I was buying alot for my collection and buying stuff to resell (at a fair price). Now everywhere ebay/Craigslist/letgo, they ask for the maximum price possible on a system that has lots of age , usage ,wear and tear. Terrible times. Even now with the switch.. people be reselling that for double
I'm starting to build my collection. I started in 2013 and I was working on ps3 mostly. Now I'm focused on ps4, and original Xbox and sometimes switch.
I find that in Canada at least, there is an opportunity right now at starting PS2 era and above collections at very affordable prices, if going through traditional means of thrift stores, pawns, events, etc...Some decent stuff can certainly pop up. Finding however SNES, Genesis, N64, Dreamcast, NES, SMS...even PS1, and also vintage home-computer titles...and older game then those eras... is next to impossible. I think that if found, these are usually priced in line with eBay prices, unless we are talking about common titles or sports games. People are certainly more informed and it takes two minutes to look up a game title online for prices and comparisons, so odds are lower at someone letting a gem slip by a google search prior to selling. :)
Vintage Computer Museum agreed man. Here in Canada we are getting fucked with prices and I can never find Dreamcast. When I find anything super nes, it’s too expensive
This was a great video where I found myself nodding along in agreement with your thoughts on game collecting...especially after you have a good number of your favourite retro titles in your collection.
I just wait for Black Friday now and sometimes when there is a great deal on past generation games I get some that I will play. No new games though and no games that require a battery to save.
5 a month nowadays?? what sort of stuff you buying? I can see maybe new indie titles or some obscure systems, otherwise anything outside of handhelds and atari that would break.my wallet....
@@h3corptempbutevadinganass I don't buy recent games, I do retrogaming and old gen mostly. My last purchases are: fire emblem shadow dragon (NDS), oddworld the stranger's wrath (PS3), Tintin (PS3), Axiom Verge collector (Wii U).
Short answer: No. My biggest reason lately: It's no longer enough that you got a cool game, now you have to get it as cheaply as possible. You can get Earthbound, but unless it was $5, no one will care and there's always someone one-upping you with "well *I* got it for *THIS* little cash."
@@bnr32jason No, not when it's all, "how much you pay for that? I got it for "X tiny dollars" so I did it better." I rarely post my aquisitions anymore because of it, Especially with rare titles, it happens all the time.
@@JetWolfEX I almost agree except for junk that exists like VGA graded stuff, which sort of counterpoints. I actually deleted a 300 word response to you, the rabbit hole is deep, and I've seen real people buy a load of stuff they never intended to play just to, and I quote, "Throw it into the Collection." Put simply, I no longer collect, but I still acquire, as I don;t classify our games as a collection; it's a functional, accessible library for our productions now. Not much more.
@@JetWolfEX Oh, and I'm REALLY looking forward to unsealing, unboxing and playing a handful of Dreamcast games we scrounged up for a production we're doing. A big part of me hopes they're the last of their kind, just to counter annoy the value/profit snobs.
A lot of it is personal perspective. For me, the thrill of the hunt and finding a game out in the wild for cheap that I've been wanting to add to my collection is probably the biggest reason i still collect. It's just a thrill to still find stuff, especially nowadays when its getting tougher for all the reasons talked about. I just get more satisfaction out of buying a game for a great price than paying market value. So for me, these days I'm only still collecting when i find those great deals since that's what brings me joy in the hobby.
I think I overdid my collecting from 2014-2016 or so. Even started a neo geo aes collection which i ended up selling. I think it's good to just take breaks from collecting or really pace yourself so you don't get burnt out or spend too much $.
...I'm a big Sega fan and held onto all of my classic systems and games (Genesis, Saturn, and etc) while still building libraries/collections for all of my modern systems. It was the Analogue SG that motivated me to start buying Genesis and Sega CD games again. It solved the major issue I ran into in playing retro stuff on a modern tv. I've found a bunch of stuff on my list hitting a good chunk of the local retro stores in my state. ...I'll grab some more stuff online from the solid online retro sources and FB marketplace. After that I'll fill a few of the holes in my Saturn and DC collections. It's sort of difficult collecting for retro and current, but I'm still having fun collecting.
Hell yeah it’s still fun. I love this community. I will tell you this though. It’s not fun when you have those who just got into the hobby and doesn’t know anything about any of the games they are buying nor have any intention of learning the game, just buying for the sheer money value of it. People around my age get it because we grew up in that time and that’s where it becomes fun to surround yourself with those who collect for the fun of the hunt and to reclaim their childhood
Definitely a yes. I still love collecting PS2 games. Just this week I got Yakuza 2 and James Bond Nightfire and I’m enjoying every minute playing them. Prices are beginning to become an issue but nothing beats grabbing a new game for your collection.
We have a video game pawn shop in my town and it's seriously the best thing in the world. They have basically every console (usually) and the walls and shelves are lined with retro and new games. Most games are below $20
Im starting to get to where i have stepped back and started looking at my collection and realized i have games that i will prob never play so im going to slow down
Just waiting for ps4 games to drop to 5-10$ you know cheap as ps3 I have 44 ps4 games so far and I defintly prefer carts more but the Japanese games man...
I've lived in Hong Kong for the last two years. It's been an amazing time looking around for and finding games that would cost a ton to ship back home. So it's been more newer games for me, but been fun to collect stuff over here.
Collecting games is great if you have the time, space, and money. Over the years I kept my collection but over the past few years I sold everything and decided to keep only the PS4 stuff. It sucked but ultimately I’m happier and appreciate my PS4 collection more. With the PS5 apparently don’t backwards compatibility with PS4 I’ll keep everything on PS4 and continue gaming with PS5. Anyway pretty soon, collecting games won’t be possible if gaming ends up becoming digital or streaming only. I agree that collecting games isn’t as fun. But I think it’s more about getting older. I’ve been gaming starting with the NES but more so really with the SNES. Maybe I’m slowly getting burned out with gaming? 😱
I want to preserve the history of gaming I’m lucky enough to have A very large room and spare room to display all my stuff so I buy games all the time wether I’ll actually play them or not because I want these things to be preserved and looked after for future generations
Its harder to find something I don't have now, than it was when I first began collecting. I don't go out looking for games as often because of this. My area is dry when it comes to variety....
I’ve slowed down, mostly because I ran out of room. I’m not trying for complete sets, rather I’m going for complete series. I buy most my retro games from a store in Vancouver Washington and I live on the east coast😂
Yes and no. Everyone thats selling these days tends to think their game is worth way more than its actually worth. I started collecting for the Switch but I'm starting to realize it's going to be near impossible with all the limited physical releases from small companies that only sell them for 2 weeks and then stop. Hunting is fun but around where we live, there is no where to hunt. Garage sales are generally grandma's stuff, Good Will never has electronics, not a single pawn shop... We have 1 resell shop but its full of chain smokers and all the games I bought from him are gross inside so I stopped buying there.
Online game hunting is where it’s at now. I recently found 2 games for half their value online. So if you are willing to pay a little bit more you might still score online. You just have to be diligent to find these deals. But even if there is a deal, as you said, don’t buy to many at once.
I'm mostly satisfied with my collecting too, I have about 100 retro games left to buy and I want to buy custom game cases for them all so another $1000 CAD or so roughly. I'm waiting until I sort my career out more before I buy any of that so for now it's just enjoying what I have an keeping an eye for any can't pass-up deals. We are in the golden age of gaming though, that's for sure.
I completely agree with you. I started really collecting in 2010 and found a lot of deal (on the internet, in stores, pawnshop and what not). Nowaday I can't find anymore stuff at cheap price. Almost everybody kind of know now that games are worth something. Recently I just bought every retro game that was on my list (around 50) and finish my game collection. I'm buying only new stuff right now. It was fun back then when you started and found a game lot for 60$ and got 300$ worth of stuff. I think when you are around a certain number of games, you kind of think back: Maybe I should start playing them! Had great surprises like Suikoden 1, Black and champions of norrath (as exemple).
Yeah it's true. There are some retro games I want to buy but some are so expensive. At least with SNES, N64, and Genesis I don't care much for the cases so that helps get them cheaper. But for other things it's crazy. I have been buying stuff from Gamestop when I can find it cheap.
I think the trick is not to buy to many games. I just bought the big box resident evil ntsc version, was not cheap, and i am really happy, it feels good. Thats why i love game hunting, having an aim and trying to accomplish it, never gets old.
I've been picking up NES games nonstop lately. Bundling on Mercari and scavening ebay. My favorite games I got though are still the ones from when I was a kid. I still have my original NES and Sega Genesis Model 2. I had to repin my NES but my Sega worked no probs. I love finding games in second hand stores the most. Its such a surprise sometimes especially if at a good price.... not when you find sports titles for like 15 bucks.
Game collecting is always fun because here in my city we don't have any retro game seller like pink gorilla, and for me is funny buy stock of ps2 game for My collection
It's still fun as long as you are looking for games to play. I see a lot of people who seem fixated on finding valuable games to show off. The time for finding $5 copies of Earthbound is over, but you can still find some great inexpensive hidden gems out in the wild. I usually look for stuff 2-3 generations back, stuff that casual players are getting rid of.
Well it's a bit of a long subject to talk about is this, Now up til 05 i had around 900 games for various consoles (Nes,Snes,Megadrive,N64, PS1,2,Gamecube,Atari , Saturn ,Game boy,Commodore C16, and some others) and i got rid of it all!!!! just to get an Xbox 360! because back then that console was so hyped up and all the games that was promised to blow your mind ect..so anyway i sold it on..got nowhere near the amount i thought I'd get..but i was kinda happy because i got my 360 and a few games and what not..but around 08 i wanted to go back on Zelda Ocarina of time.....and that's when i sat down and thought..what the hell did i do..i got rid of a load of stuff, barely got anything for it all and now i miss it all. .. So i tried to find N64 and Zelda (Bare in mind i didn't have internet back then ) and it was hard to find..the game shop i went to supposedly got rid of all the stuff i took down so i couldn't re get it from there.. free ads had nothing in them..so i was stuck in a bit of a rut. Wasn't up to around 6 month to a year later i found one and started recollecting everything i had again..but that was tough to find the game i had..until we got internet back in late 2010..by that time some of the prices on the games i wanted back had shot up in price (not as much as they are now days) but I wanted them in boxes with manuals..most of what i saw was cart only.. so i kept waiting..occasionally buying the odd game.. then the collecting retro games need/want went away as by that time I'd already been bough a PS3 so i was playing games on that too..Then the retro buying games bug game back around 2012/3 so like the story goes..i kept buying what i saw (that was complete ) and been doing it ever since but only if i see them cheap. What hurts the most about re-buying is I'm paying way more than what the game shop gave me for games..and my games were immaculate and i mean immaculate ..not even a dent or wear on a cardboard box or sleeve, or a scratch on a disc. some of the games I've had are now worth £300 / £400 Now I'm buying stuff nowhere near the condition i had ..upsets me a bit too this day. I blame the hipster types for making it a big trend why the prices have sky rocketed. It's only ever going to get more pricey as time goes on too.
Yeah, I drive around to 5 game stores in my area and check out details online. I mostly collect for gens 5-7 since many games haven't been ported to PC and most probably never will. Been collecting games I actually want to play, hope to build a decent games room soon.
I find it more satisfying collecting controllers and other accessories. Id started a fb group specifically for controllers and it neat seeing stuff others have. The game side is not as much a priority for me like it was.
If you live in the UK the best place I would say for someone in a rural area is CEX. I pick up so many good games their for relatively cheap prices. Collecting for the 360, PS3, DS, 3DS and most other consoles is so cheap and CEX do the best prices really.
I sold all my stuff and just kept the stuff nes sms SNES genesis and dreamcast that I owned and a few ones that i always wanted like ducktales 2(went on a sweet vacation). Yard sales that aren't advertised is the only option now
It's still fun but it's nothing like it was 10-15 years ago. You used to be able to go to flea markets, yard sales, etc and just get so many games. Not just common trash games either, the good stuff
I absolutely love game collecting. Especially cheap games that no one really ever played and games I would have never have played when they were at full price when they first came out. My UA-cam channel gives me a reason to play these games and discover fun games I wouldn't have gave a chance back in the day. Just bought a huge PS1 lot at super cheap and I am stoked to play each one. 😊
I collect mainly gameboy/gbc/gba consoles and games and I think it is much less fun now because getting great finds is so hard these days. No more goodwill finds, yardsale finds, etc. for me at least. Ebay is extremely expensive and finding a decent deal is tough.
I still enjoy collecting, but I am slowing down for a while to actually play the games that I have already gotten and not played, or only played a little. I'm not having a problem with prices, as long as I stay away from the rare games. I predict that game collecting will get cheaper again soon once the new consoles come out, as there will be more games on the market for those who want to sell their old games to buy the new consoles and games.
Gotta agree with a lot of what you said. Especially the part of collecting being a trend. I’ve seen plenty of collectors who seem to collect just to collect, but don’t even play the games in their collection. Well, as far as I can tell. It seems like they believe it’s more of a status symbol or bragging rights showing just how prolific their collection is and how many sought after and rare games they have. Lol it’s like they forgot the whole point of video games. They’re designed to make money and be played. They’d spend the extra cash to get a CIB game or insane amounts for a sealed copy, which is nice I’ll admit, but I’m not going to pay crazy prices for some extra plastic and some great cover art if I just want to play the game. I’ll profess, I have a moderate collection myself, at least in my opinion, that spans several systems. However, I have played and beaten probably 70-75% of the games in my collection. It would be higher but due to time constraints I have amassed a decent backlog. Not to mention when I do play, I take my time and sometimes replay old games I really liked for example a lot of the RE games I’ve played more than three times as well as many of TLoZ games. Like you said it’s become a trend and hopefully the trend balances out soon because some game prices are just baffling. You can still get some great deals here and there but I have a feeling the bubble is going to pop soon (like a year or two).
I just buy two types of games, the newer games that I am interested in, and the retro games that I am interested in and that are going up in value...I would never pay a good price for a game just because it is rare and expensive, without me having a personal interest in it :)
I just bulk buy and find ppl who like discounting for bulk. Negotiate. Get doubles for trade bait. Have fun w it dont overthink price drops think in the moment. Its all about how you feel when you walk away-some people are happier paying more money for something minty they really want. Nowadays the big finds r the hard finds and they dont come up as often hence more appreciation when the lucky finds do happen
The only thing I feel that's changed negatively is the prices, otherwise, there's a lot more in the way of conventions, homebrews, etc that didnt used to be available.
Contrary to what a lot of people seem to suggest it can still be cheap to collect if you do it smart. The single greatest mistake (from a price perspective) is to search for, and buy specific, individual games. My collection is quite humble compared to a lot of people, but 2,200 or so titles in and the most I've ever paid for a game pre 2015-ish was a 3do title at $9AUD (about $7 USD) and for more recent times, $12AUD for some Vita games. I think enthusiasm can dwindle once a collection hits a certain level though, because at that point you need to be a little more selective and patient, the effort of which can be a bit of a chore. Just my 2 cents :-)
I normally go on the offer up or let go app. I remember I got Silent Hill on the ps1 and the complete Shadow Hearts series for 40 bucks. But this is RARE! Which is why I'm also worried about the future kids because people were constantly charging over the top prices.... So it comes to the time era..
In my area it has died, we loosed CEX witch had new games for cheap, we had a retro store at our Mall but that lossed. Now I find myself doing Ebay,Marcari witch isn't as fun because your not hunting. An gaming cons forget it too many ebay prices. If gaming cons would lower the prices you would see more cons pop up. But so true...
Eye spy Martin playing bubble hockey and my hands haha. Yeah I'm not collecting much and have about 98% what I want too. New gen games and going to conventions is my fun now.
1. I simply have to mention this: You get an immediate high five from me for playing an OST from T.R.A.G. (Hard Edge) in the background. You cant fool me and try to hide it Reggie, i love that game and recognize every single track immediately. 2. At least over there (in the US) you have possibilities like Cons, Shops, etc. Over here (Germany) you dont have those possibilities, especially not where i live. Sure, a con happens here and there but its not like over in the US in any way and where i live...............basically no shops exist (yeah, outside of brand names like GameStop). There is a "junk market" every week a few minutes away from my home but i noticed that they THINK they know what they are selling and go insane with the prices. I mean, 30 € for Fifa09? So i just stick with Ebay, PlayAsia, Amazon, SquareEnix and NISA. But to be honest, when it comes to collecting, i cant go far back anyway since i've been only collecting for about 4-5 years. Yeah, pretty late to jump in but still. And its a very "high level" of collecting as well, i focus mostly on Sony systems and get what i am interested in there, the rest (X-Box Classic, Dreamcast, etc) i only get exclusives..............at least thats the idea but i can give in if i find a game that i already own on the PS2 for cheap on the Dreamcast or something. When it comes to J-RPGs, i collect anything but my main goal is a full PS1 and especially PS2 collection (both my number 1 and 2 favorite systems). Yeah, it will take decades since the PS2 alone has around 5000 games overall but still. No, not US only, not EU only but worldwide. Every single game ever. Yesterday Final Fantasy Anthology and The Princess Guide Limited Edition arrived at my home, a day before i finally got Suikoden (only two titles missing from the franchise), and the rest (Xenosaga III (hard to find in Europe), Ty 2, Monster Rancher 2, Star Ocean 3 (Cardboard box), Atelier Sophie LE, Atelier Lydie LE and Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists LE are on the way and should arrive in a few days. So i order really all the time.
I was recently in Seattle for a week in the first week of March this year, the online scene was awful on apps like Offerup, Letgo etc.. higher prices than back home in San Diego. I stopped into Pink Gorilla and some other shops in the area with no success. I dont look for insane low prices but I refuse to pay full retail for used items in person... ever.
I like collecting games but sometimes it pisses me off when I see those stupid expensive prices just because the game is popular on UA-cam. Most of the time games are not rare, just popular. I hope someday the bubble for retro gaming will burst and prices will normalize but this will probably not happen any time soon.
Picked up a SEALED DBZ Budokai 2 for the ps2 at the Goodwill in Bellevue last week, the Seattle area still puts them out, you just have to catch them at the put out time
Hobby is to expensive nowadays more fun late 80s and 90s . Just a brag fest on Social Media . I started collecting Atari 2600 in 1983, 84. Own all my favourite games and Systems and what I still play.
To me, game hunting will never not be fun! I love traveling to different cons every year to satisfy my collecting needs. I've met so many amazing people that share my interests and made some great friends through the hobby. It's the one of the most fun, satisfying, and thrilling hobbies that I've got.
I stopped collecting because I just have more important interests in my life. I only spend maybe 4 hours a week playing games, and it's usually online with my friends on PS4. I was originally collecting to get those old nostalgic feelings and buy all the games I couldn't afford as a kid, but that only satisfied me for a short time. I've since sold the majority of my 800+ collection and just keep PS4 (since I play it most) and keep only the old games I have a real connection to like Ocarina of Time, FF7, stuff like that. I like my smaller, more meaningful collection a lot more than the big one.
I like bargain hunting in pawn shops. Not much retro, but the going rate is about $5 for PS3 games and $10 for pS4 games which is pretty good. I have a backlog of about three years worth of games I haven't played yet, so I can afford to wait for prices of newer games to drop before I buy them. Don't really see the point of collecting anything PS1 or older as my Raspberry Pi fulfills all my retro among needs.
I’ve been collecting for my Wii U for about one year now and only have 25 games so far because prices keep going up. It gets expensive real quick and idk where else to look for a great deal
datboijr01 you’re about 1 year too late. I almost have a complete Wii U collection and finished collecting for It around 2 years ago. In 2017 the games were going for dirt cheap. Now they’re steadily rising in price due to the scarcity. You can still find them for good prices at Gamestop online. Wait until they do a buy 2 get 1 free deal and that’s probably the. Best way to buy them.
Collecting is still fun.Just collect games you WILL and WANT to play.Whats not fun is the unnecessary, VERY high prices these days. Its kind of ridiculous.Another good way to collect is buying untested scratched lots of say,ps1,ps2,gamecube,xbox,360.....and invest in a resurfacing machine. You can get scratched"lots" dirt cheap and end up with some great stuff that can be made to very good condition.
I do collect when I see something in the wild. Recently I found a sealed GH resident evil directors cut and Darkwing duck nes. Been looking for that one. I've kinda moved on to collecting the gaming statues, art books, and what not....
i used to collect ps3 games... then cfw came along and all i do is just play the games.. also theres emulation going strong! also my priority now is my about to born son. set priorities.
I'm glad I got a nice collection before things went too crazy. I'm getting to the point where it's like when is enough enough. I don't buy nes, snes and rarely genesis anymore and use everdrive for what I dont have. I got a saturn, turbo grafx and dreamcast just recently and just play backups cuz of prices. Resonable ps1 and ps2 priced games I still buy. I buy xbox, xbox 360, ps3, xbone, switch and ps4 stuff still. But really I got a lot of options and am happy to be able to have so many good games to play.
My problem has been ever since there became an imbalance between collectors and seller, now it seems there are resellers in every nook and cranny and much less fun.
Its funny this video came up I been having this conversation at work lately. I retro'd my 360 collection a couple of years ago when most of the games were between to $2 maxing out at $25 for a small few that cost that much. and I'm glad I did. 360 games are going way up. I checked prices online for my games and they have gotten expensive. 4 -5 years ago the original Xbox games were in .99 cent bins people couldn't give them away. Now? Its one of the more Expensive systems to collect for. To be honest the cheapest system to retro is PS2(for now).
I still enjoy it. I use eBay mostly but I know my limit. Only auction and if it goes over my set amount I’m out. I lost out on Last Blade 2 once it went over $25. It sold for $40. Maybe next time, I don’t need it that bad.
I feel like game collecting is like any other hobby. Sometimes its really fun. Sometimes it isnt. But if you really love it it will always be a part of your life👍
i was really into it in 2011 or so but i gave up on it, got to stupid with everyone trying to make a quick buck. now having a wall of games became less of a badge of honor and more just pointless clutter, so i sold almost all of them
Hobbies are great making a living off or getting to a point the hobby is self funding is wonderful but it kills the love of the hobby since its now work. Also collectors can burn out since you got most everything you wanted then what is the point? We also change interests as we age. But may also revist old abandoned hobbies. Just the way it is enjoy the moment.
Collecting from me it's pretty new I've been collecting for my Nintendo Switch pretty hard now and man it's a fight to keep up with it especially with all these new companies that are popping up that are selling digital only = to physical copy games almost every other week I find a new company that's doing the same thing for example like Limited Run Games or Super Rare Games there's many players in that field almost every week There's a release from one of these companies unless you got money to burn like that more power to you the only person I know who might be going for a complete Nintendo switch collection overseas or North America is JP Switch Mania I don't know how he does it...but with all that said I like the hunt lol
For me it's less the collecting part and more the thrill of finding a game in the wild and getting home to actually play it.
Dude. Hit the head on the nail. You can also buy a bunch of games off Mercari and stuff but its always awesome to hit up a goodwill or a second hand store and find some games.

Right on man!
Spot on, Dude. I'm not going out of my way to fill up my collection anymore. Just letting it happen naturally.
You have enough games!
TBH not so much anymore. Everyone thinks they have gold and are selling em like gold. I blame the smartphones that allowed for people to search up prices on eBay regardless if it sold or not and pick the highest price.
couldn't agree more. the internet ruined gaming
It is still fun, but, we all have to acknowledge : "the bigger our collection gets, its more difficult to find those particular titles in the wild/regular stores. Etc etc. I still go to flea markets and thrift, but I'm a lot less hardcore. I mostly look for CDs at this point. Fun because you can find awesome stuff for $1 each. It's like the good ole days of game hunting
It used to be more fun back in the late 90s/early 2000s when I was buying up every NES game I saw for super cheap.
That was a great time to scoop up everything whether it be video games,LEGOS,vintage computers, electronic music equipment, etc!
yup still fun of course, just so awesome when ur hobby or passion is cheap and easy (y) thank god for emulation if ur truly just in it for gaming :D as long as shit can be preserved
cuz the ip owners and developers sure aren't doing it, that's what fans are for
Yea bro I agree.
Same I want to pickup a copy of Dokapon kingdom for my Wiiu but it's so expensive why and GameCube games
Hilarious how he doesn’t realize it because of people like him and metal Jesus the collecting world is so crazy now.
The fun is still there if you know how to collect on the cheap
I'm starting to build my collection. I started in 2013 and I was working on ps3 mostly. Now I'm focused on ps4, and original Xbox and sometimes switch.
More like addicting and expensive but worth it when games go all digital and I have my old play station games to play!
I love it! CEX over here in the UK is still very exciting to shop around!
Yep!
Heck yeah it is. I recently added Mario party and Starfox 64 for real cheap. I was excited for a few minutes.
At my worst, I would buy 25 games a month. Now, I've calmed down... Maybe 5 a month.
Jimmy Lopez May 2020: haven’t bought any game in 2 months because of the pandemic. 😆
Short answer: No.
My biggest reason lately: It's no longer enough that you got a cool game, now you have to get it as cheaply as possible. You can get Earthbound, but unless it was $5, no one will care and there's always someone one-upping you with "well *I* got it for *THIS* little cash."
Why do you care what other people think about your scores? Is it fun to YOU?
@@bnr32jason No, not when it's all, "how much you pay for that? I got it for "X tiny dollars" so I did it better." I rarely post my aquisitions anymore because of it, Especially with rare titles, it happens all the time.
@@JetWolfEX I almost agree except for junk that exists like VGA graded stuff, which sort of counterpoints. I actually deleted a 300 word response to you, the rabbit hole is deep, and I've seen real people buy a load of stuff they never intended to play just to, and I quote, "Throw it into the Collection."
Put simply, I no longer collect, but I still acquire, as I don;t classify our games as a collection; it's a functional, accessible library for our productions now.
Rya Bur I hope he checked the board on those games. Hard to believe people would slip on games like that now a days, specially pawn shops.
Wouldn’t trade being a collector for anything in the world❤️🤟
A lot of it is personal perspective.
Wow great video. I feel this way . Done going to thrift stores now. Everyone is trying to get rich. I just want to play them. Thanks
...I'm a big Sega fan and held onto all of my classic systems and games (Genesis, Saturn, and etc) while still building libraries/collections for all of my modern systems.
Game collecting will always be fun! Great topic Reg!
I just buy games I know I'm going to play now
Yup! I basically got all the games I want except for a handful of hard to find ones. Once I come across them, I'll get them, but I'm in no hurry :)
Im starting to get to where i have stepped back and started looking at my collection and realized i have games that i will prob never play so im going to slow down
Now is the time to collect 360, one, Ps3 and Ps4 games. Mark my words. Ps4 is going to hit the sweet spot in a year or two.
I could care less to collect disc based games. But love carts.
@@sheepdogsherlock1311 I understand, I like both. I prefer carts more though.
@@bullfrogjay4383 Though there exist so many good Japanese based games on the PS consoles.
Just waiting for ps4 games to drop to 5-10$ you know cheap as ps3 I have 44 ps4 games so far and I defintly prefer carts more but the Japanese games man...
Collecting games is still fun to me.
I've lived in Hong Kong for the last two years. It's been an amazing time looking around for and finding games that would cost a ton to ship back home. So it's been more newer games for me, but been fun to collect stuff over here.
I've been slowing down quite a bit, and more picking games up when the opportunities present themselves, rather than actively seeking games.
I want to preserve the history of gaming I’m lucky enough to have
A very large room and spare room to display all my stuff so I buy games all the time wether I’ll actually play them or not because I want these things to be preserved and looked after for future generations
I believe I just may enjoy collecting as much if not more than actually playing the games
Especially since I get most of my games for Free
Its harder to find something I don't have now, than it was when I first began collecting. I don't go out looking for games as often because of this. My area is dry when it comes to variety....
I've shifted my focus to collecting media like strategy guides and advertisements. It's more fun that way.
don't tell anybody or else it'll be a sought after market!
it's still fun, but I frequent pawn shops more than anything around here.
I just got a Wii that plays gamecube games for 20 bucks.
Even pawn shops are getting smart with games. Can't even get a gamecube anymore for less then 40.
I’ve slowed down, mostly because I ran out of room. I’m not trying for complete sets, rather I’m going for complete series. I buy most my retro games from a store in Vancouver Washington and I live on the east coast😂
Double Jump?
Jason Garrett, that’s the one.
We advertised the fun of game collecting on UA-cam and the masses listened and jumped on the trend. We shot ourselves in the foot.
That is an epic collection dude.
I’m from Iowa and the thrift stores here still sometimes slip on prices. I picked up Twilight Princess CIB for the GameCube for $2 last week.
Ive also bought a Vita with a 32gb memory card forgotten inside. 😂 it’s all about being lucky I guess.
Another great video Reggie
I miss going to flee markets and finding deals. Now everyone is a scalper.
Sheepdog Sherlock I know right? I don’t e em waste the time anymore.
Nowadays the big finds r the hard finds and they dont come up as often hence more appreciation when the lucky finds do happen
yup. Shopping at thrift stores sucks now. They're always putting them up for auction here in LA.
I would say support your local game shop you show them love you will get it back trust me
The only thing I feel that's changed negatively is the prices, otherwise, there's a lot more in the way of conventions, homebrews, etc that didnt used to be available.
That mario footage had me shook...
Don't know if game collecting is still fun but watching your videos defo is
In my area it has died, we loosed CEX witch had new games for cheap, we had a retro store at our Mall but that lossed.
Very well said! Totally agree! Meeting others at cons, game stores etc is the best part!
Great video 👍😁
Ive branched out....Looking for old toys and gaming magazines, oddities......Still looking for games but its not my sole drive now
i used to collect ps3 games... then cfw came along and all i do is just play the games.. also theres emulation going strong! also my priority now is my about to born son.
set priorities.
To be honest the cheapest system to retro is PS2(for now).
yeah collecting is still fun my collecting habits are random when comes retro games so when go out looking for games its not for any specific.
I just mod my systems and play them that way. No way I wanna drop that kinda coin lol
I collect games I know I will play
That’s what we all say. Kinda 😆
Same here👍
Collecting from me it's pretty new I've been collecting for my Nintendo Switch pretty hard now and man it's a fight to keep up with it especially with all these new companies that are popping up that are selling digital only = to physical copy games almost every other week I find a new company that's doing the same thing for example like Limited Run Games or Super Rare Games there's many players in that field almost every week There's a release from one of these companies unless you got money to burn like that more power to you the only person I know who might be going for a complete Nintendo switch collection overseas or North America is JP Switch Mania I don't know how he does it...but with all that said I like the hunt lol
