    I've built a 21" 6ARC using an Odin works barrel and a 16" Geissele MK18 rail(the one with an integrated Arca). With Hornady 108 ELD-ms im shooting .6" at 100 yards. I agree with you, although I don't hunt, but shooting this rig makes me think this is how ARs should be chambered.

      I prefer the Grendel also, little heavier bullet than the arc for deer/hogs. But the bullets available in 6mm is better for the smaller critters, so I see where he is coming from. But for the distance I shoot and what I shoot the Grendel is better choice for me.

      pros and cons. Better is subjective. there are LOTS of better but with better you get more recoil. the bigger you go the more recoil. 6.5 CM would be better but has more recoil. the 6CM would be better but more recoil. so Better is subjective to pros and cons vs 6ARC

I have a reciever set that i am going build out, 6ARC semi auto upper along with a lower that i want to build to accommodate both these uppers. With having a 22 inch barrel on one would 18 inch be a good option for the gas gun or maybe go shorter? I hunt on public lands because I had to be poor somewhere else. In Texas, on drawn hunts with the TPWD, hunts that allow centerfire rifles spec that you must have at least a .243 W. Which means that 6 mm ARC would be acceptable. Especially in the semi-auto and a suppressor, it is going to feel like a butterfly kiss.

    Have you experienced any bullet movement in your testing of 6mm ARC? I’m using an 18” Wilson combat with midlength gas and my bullets will jump 30 thousands longer when firing a magazine. I cannot mimic this while just chambering a round. I’ve installed a sylvan arms adjustable gas block and it has helped to some degree. Maybe only down to 10 thousands now, but still having issues.

    • @MrWallaland
      @MrWallaland Рік тому

      Hey Kent, this could be caused by excessive recoil and or low neck tension. Are you reloading or using factory ammo? Sgt talked about playing with buffer weight in a previous podcast which might help in addition to the adjustable gas block you have.

    • @kentfallin5296
      @kentfallin5296 Рік тому

      @@MrWallaland there’s no question the carrier speed and recoil were both wayyy too much. This barrel need a rifle length gas system, not a mid length. It happens with both factory and my hand loads. More so with hand loads. I’m using Hornady bushing dies and the smallest I’ve used so far is a .265 bushing. I’ve even crimped the rounds and some bullets still move forward 5-10 thou. It seems to have more movement with the 112gr Barns match burner. So is it bullet shape? I’m using a heavy buffer (H3) as well

    • @MrWallaland
      @MrWallaland Рік тому

      @@kentfallin5296 Wow, interesting. The times I've heard of this issue have revolved around reloaded rounds. Interesting you are getting the issue with factory as well. My understanding of the issue is it can be caused by 2 recoil impulses; 1 at the initial shot and 2 if the bolt bottoms out in the receiver while the action cycles. Do you think #2 could be happening? Are you running a light weight bolt carrier? I just put together an upper with an 18" Wilson barrel. I have not shot any rounds yet, but I'll take some measurements to see what I'm getting. My Wilson barrel has an intermediate gas length system which they changed in the latest round of barrels. Hope this helps a little.

    • @tphpodcast
      @tphpodcast  Рік тому

      Increase Neck Tension. Past that with the adjustable gas block done you might look into different buffers, and decrease the overall recoil. Realistically, needs a longer gas system, I'm curious why Wilson went with a Midlength.

    • @charltonlwalker
      @charltonlwalker 5 місяців тому

      @@tphpodcastwhat about crimping? I got a Grendel Hunter upper and it’s doing 108 ELDM hand loads .6-.7 MOA at 100 but it’s also a mid length gas system. Haven’t checked OAL while shooting.

    • @DBravo29er
      @DBravo29er Рік тому +2

      @@Wardinson Nope. Has same recoil pulse with weak ammo, but A5 is much smoother with hot defensive ammo. JP SCS you have to pick whether you want to run with weak ammo and have the gun beat itself to death with HD/duty ammo, or have it work optimally with duty ammo and barely run on the training stuff. Same goes with Suppressed and Un-. I worked with it for over a year. Tried all weight and spring combos. It's a gamer setup. A great one, mind you. But that's all it is.
      Vltor A5 + Super 42 Rifle on a 5.56 rig gives you smooth operation with hot 5.56 (including 855A1) and still works with PMC Bronze. A feat that a JP SCS can't see with a space telescope.

    Great gun but ammo is an issue, pricy and availability

    Wade my friend, I'm a big fan but I think you just overran your headlights by a little bit. A high B.C. 6ARC bullet shot with a muzzle velocity of 2750 fps will have an 800 yd velocity of approx 1400 fps and and energy level of 500 ft/lbs. This is far below killing velocity and energy, even for Texas whitetails. At that range you are punching pencil holes through our deer. Did you really mean to say that?

      Not with proper projectiles . Trust me, I’ve seen me do it.

    Starts with why the 6 ARC is the best then doesnt talk about the cartridge. Moves to why Geiselle is the best and how most parts were switched.

    no WAY man is a 6mm arc okay for hogs. javelina maybe but ive seen dozens of male hogs run off with .308 round stuck in their fat layer. i no longer think that .308 is acceptable for hogs now because of how many times ive seen its firsthand. 45-70 is my go to for hogs, zero chance in hell is 6mm going to cut it, on their piglets maybe, definitely not full grown.

      I just got home from a pig hunt. The 6mm arc dropped a 220 lb piggy in his tracks from a full run. I was surprised how effective it was. Took 4 pigs one shot each

      Ridiculous. .308 is definitely good for hogs, and 6mmARC, or 6.5 Grendel…both great for hogs.

    My son and I, are gonna stick with the Howa, till his marksmanship skills, are where I want them to be. He still has a tendency to want to pull the trigger, to make up for good fundamentals. 🫤
