Hey, guys! As always, questions to ask: what do you think about Phase Plant? Bought it? Planning to buy? Or maybe selling? Let me know down below!

@@olaftampier9057 Your title is funny-- Phase Plant is literally _the only synth_ I demoed where I did not like _a single preset_ . You may not use them but that's how I get a sense of what the synth is about and what it is capable of. Also, totally agree on the 'sound' of it super dead and plastic-y. I could see the potential in theory but just couldn't get over that sound. It is becoming the go-to synth for sound designers though so that plus your review so willing to give V2 a 2nd chance and perhaps try a subscription for a few months...

Sounds like you came to it with an opinion based on presets, discovered how it works as you made the video and finally gave it enough time for the video to convince yourself. It doesn't have the raw sounding oscillators and filters of a minimoog, but the modulation capabilities of this thing put it in a class of its own. I can do stuff with samples in Phase Plant that I can't do in Kontakt 6 or Ableton samplers. I make sounds faster in this synth than any other I have used. Even if you don't vibe with the gui, you have to appreciate the fact that nothing on the screen goes unused. Makes it awesome for saving starting point patches as templates to build off.

Phase Plant was the first soft synth I dived really deep into, and it's my primary soft synth ever since. I've used Serum, Pigments, Diva, Falcon, and a huge lot more - and Phase Plant remains the favourite. I think to me it's the blank slate that it starts with (I barely ever use presets). It invites creativity. Gives me all the possibilities without forcing me into any particular path.

Very well said :) Presets with PP make not much sense, I agree!

For me personally, Phaseplant and the kHs effect plugins have the most user-friendly GUI I've ever encountered. Perhaps, it just depends on what the individual is used to.

I don't really like do it all synths. I still like native instruments offerings. Massive, Massive x and Fm8. Absynth would be on the list if they had not stop supporting it.

Absynth was crazy good actually and it's a pity, 100% true!

I think there are definitely soft synths and hard synths that have WAY more character and are much easier to get great sounds with. However PP is still my go to soft synth because of just how easy it is to get a sound started and the modulation and efficiency of the FX is insane. As someone who has more of a background in software the GUI is extremely friendly to me but i can see how it's more busy and confusing to people who are coming from hardware or other, older soft synths. When you have all of the FX with this synth and if you know what you're doing, you can get some amazing sounds, however, similar to the Hydrasynth, if you don't know what you're doing, or don't have a sound direction in mind, its punishing and won't sound great. If you can grab the complete collection of FX and the synth for a good deal i would say its worth a shot, especially if you're coming from serum and are looking for something with more possibilities than that

I made a whole album with just Phase Plant for everything. It was a bit of getting used to. But after that, I just didn't grab it as Europs/Thor/Sub was still easier. V2 feels like a real step up - or perhaps stepping to where it could/should have been before so I will try again. i am due to start writing more material and was considering a limit like Reaper (for a Reason man) so maybe it could be Reaper + PP2??? :-)

I've mainly used Melda SoundFactory over the last year, and when trying out PP again just now, the difference in the basic sound quality is HUGE. PP does indeed sound like a toy in comparison on the oscillator level and in general. It's like it has no "body" or presence. However, there are also huge benefits to PPs workflow, and I did decide to get the subscription a couple of days ago. As to the interface/GUI - it was refreshing to hear critique of it, different from the choir of devoted disciples, lol. If I were in charge, I'd change it quite a bit. In the end, every synth is a different tool with both strenghts and weaknesses.

Melda SoundFactory is a purely digital synth. There is absolutely nothing analogish in it. Probably the coldest synth out there. As for sound quality. They are absolutely on the same level. No aliasing, no cruelties.

  • @if2086

I have all the Artiria synths. But PhasePlant is the most used synth here. Low CPU, very high-end sound and I can make new sounds in very short time. I can make PP to sound like analog in seconds. But I don't need this. I just need a huge, modern sound. It is really a techno synth.

Didn't like Phase Plant when it came out, also felt that it sounded 'too plastic'.
Up until Dash Glitch mentioned to me that I should use my own Wavetables.
World of a difference. My 2nd favourite Synth (Vital is my favourite)

I ve tried a lot of synth all deleted when i ve found phaseplant
For me actualy is the best synth with ana2 this last for his particular sound.
Where u can find a plug in so flexible?
If u want a lot of sounds of instruments ready to use, and more friendly to use, surely phaseplant is not for u, go on serum and other similar 😂

  • @badwave
    @badwave 2 роки тому +1

honestly, i find myself liking phase plant for the specific combination of the flexibility and the un-colored sound- sometimes I want to add warmth and character, but it can be nice to know that i have the freedom to start with a completely dry character that won’t push me in a specific direction.
of course, having said that, if kilohearts were to decide to add functionality for choosing different models of analog oscillator/filters like in Diva, i would be fucking ecstatic. still hoping for those granular generators to materialize someday too.

I have to admit, I have never been impressed by Phase Plant's factory presets. They are nowhere near as 'useable' as many other synths, such as those by u-he. However, as a synth itself, Phase Plant is great and very user-friendly, imho.

The GUI of Phase Plant is not the most user friendly????? You can say a lot about Phase Plant, there is just one thing that you can't say: it's not user friendly. To say that is just really weird... (to put it mildly) It's like saying Omnisphere doesn't have a lot of presets. It's just simply: not true.

  • @soujorgeferreira

Man, why are you seeking an analog sound into a digital and virtual synth? DO oyu have an Deepmind and a analog Dave Smith synth, i think. The GUI is not a analog subtractive synth layout, also. Salute

@@smaplessmap5355 I think that every synth has its own character and lets you do stuff a bit different. What you said about Phase Plant applies to Falcon, Ana2 and some other synths. What makes them different is their architecture, oscillators design, filters (digital filters can vary a lot!), different effect sections and - probably most of all - different feel and user experience.
