Only a few minutes into this video and I just had to pause to say how much I love the community around your and a few other’s garden channels! It’s such a wonderfully refreshing thing these days to see and be a part of a group of folks that are so supportive of one another and so freely willing to share wisdom! I have followed this channel for years and one of my favorite things has come to be the postcards! It just feels good and I thank you Erin and all you other fabulous gardeners that have been sharing and teaching along the way! Happy Sunday everyone! ❤️Heather, Zone 8b coastal NC
Get some inexpensive hair pins (not bobby pins, but the old fashioned hair pins, they're usually black), and I bet those will hold the moss in place for you pretty well. Lovely garden stroll, and the windowbox is heavenly! That peachy keen verbena and coordinating superbells is stunning! And the different varieties of clematis are gorgeous! Happy Birthday Dorothy! 🐾🐾
I love your sip and stroll. I’m the opposite I’m sitting , enjoying my coffee. With my note pad so I can write plant names. Then I pause and google the plant. My mornings with you are relaxing and informative. So thank you Erin.
I doubt this is a solution for your whole garden, but this is something you might try in an area where you have something special like the expensive Floret zinnias. Last year my miniature hostas were gobbled up by rabbits. This year I sprinkled cow manure around the base of my hostas as a fertilizer and discovered the rabbits left them alone. Your garden looks terrific! Happy birthday to Dorothy!
🎉happy birthday Dorothy 🎉 I love the garden strolls , everything looks so good . I tend to get overwhelmed by all the things to do in my own garden sometimes i forget to just enjoy all the beauty. The sound of your ice clinking in your glass begs me to just go out and sit and enjoy the beautiful things . Happy Gardening 👩🌾🥂
I bought my first home last year, This year iv found out im IN LOVE with watching plants grown. My problem is Iv dug so many large beds but have horrible anxiety about planting things i will regret, Or not look good together. i even bought a bunch of stuff 2 weeks ago that are still sitting in pots because im scared to put them somewhere i'll later regret and wish I did something different. UGGH
You have solved a mystery for me. I have 2 “underwear pink” smooth hydrangeas and I just don’t really like them and couldn’t figure why mine are so beige pink. Thank you for showing me spirit 1 and 2. I must have 1. Therefore I won’t feel bad removing it. Your property is lovely
I just love the seed pods of the poppies. That add a unique architecture to the areas they’re in. It all looks beautiful! Happy birthday sweet Dorothy. 🎉
@@dianawilson5030 It’s a good thing I leave for a bit in summer as my main impetus for getting that pile planted is so that I don’t have to find someone to water them. 🤣
@ Impatient Gardener … I always look forward to your gin/tonic garden walk. Your so relaxed, allow flowers/plants to just be and whatever is, is. It’s a good way to look at life. Cheers 🥂 ✨💖✨
Hi Erin, I wanted to say that I think you’re idea for the hanging baskets next year sounds like a win . I wanted to add to your idea by suggesting that maybe you could use the coco liner on top of the sphagnum moss to help retain moisture, and also hold the moss in place a bit more. Just a thought that I wanted to share with you 😊 here’s to Dorothy having the most chill birthday and welcome back from vaca 👩🏻🌾👩🏻🌾
You make me laugh. I love your sense of humor. We spent a couple of days in Lake Geneva, WI and loved it. Yerke’s Observatory tour was fascinating and we loved the boat tour. We stopped at Northwind Perennials and picked up several plants that I can’t wait to get into the garden. Having the same issue with bunnies here so I picked plants with scratchy leaves. 😝 We love their use of antiques too. Happy birthday sweet Dorothy!
I’m also trying to fill in the holes of my garden, and trying to remember back tot the Spring when I told myself what I needed to do in the fall to fill in next spring’s garden. Thank you for the inspiration.
Erin, I wish I could send you some of our bald eagles and red-tailed hawks! I have seen exactly one rabbit once in the four years we have owned this property. Not to say that we don't have critters -- looking at you, Mr. Groundhog--and somebody is eating my strawberries just when they are almost ripe!
Omg! Watching your video this morning gave me the itch to garden, but the heat in Northern California it too much. Ugh. I’m so envious of all the large plants! Happy birthday to Dorothy.
I so enjoy your Garden walks I look forward to them every weekend. I also enjoyed your sailing. Such a pleasure to see the lake, the wind in your hair and the beautiful scenery around you.
I listened to your voice tone level go way up when, at the end of the video, Dorothy came out and you wished her a happy birthday. You are so cute. Cute and smart and funny and pretty and a gardener and a sailor and a who know what else. Awesome lady.
The sip and stroll is really a favorite! Enjoying this morning with my coffee….. will have to view these in afternoon and enjoy a gin and tonic with you ❤️
Happy Belated Birthday Dorothy! Erin, garden looks pretty good after a vacation. My dahlias are blooming it seems early this year I’m in Stillwater MN 4b.
I’m late to this party as our basement flooded as many did during the storm here in Burlington Ontario last Monday. CHEERS I’m happy to come and take a very pleasant break with you.
Great stroll and sip. A hack I learned , from my sister, to control wasps. Make a mixture of canned pet food or liver worst and Ajax cleaner or borax. Wrap in cheese cloth and hang it in the eaves or where ever you get wasps. Be sure it’s out of reach of any pets. The wasps take the mixture back to their nests and it kills the nests. Have been doing this for years and it really works. Fast and effective.
Happy Birthday, Dorothy. Ambassador Allium is so cool. "Underwear oink" - love it. I love Haas Halo hydrangea and the BoBo hydrangeas. I absolutely love that purple astilbe. I like the Amsonia too.
I always enjoy your garden strolls and hearing the ice jingling :) It's fun to come back and see new things blooming! You do remember a lot of hard names of plants, so all good! I like your explanation of pronouncing plant names. From now on I'll just say it how I think it sounds and not explain! As for Hosta's, I agree with you on the flowers. The only ones I do enjoy is the Guacamole blooms.
Happy Belated Birthday Dorothy! I somehow missed this video. I too have issue either rabbits destroying my garden. I absolutely love yarrow and have yet to find a variety they leave alone. This year I gave in and bought some that I’m growing in cages just to get that flower in my bed again. Never had issues with the bunnies eating my yarrow in my last home which is one suburb over (zone 5b Chicago). Very frustrating. Your garden as always looks beautiful!
Buy the coconut stuff in rolls, got ours on Amazon different roll widths and lengths. Moss always gets ratty, you can get a green colored for a nicer finished look. Love your strolls with cocktails ! What’s your gin of choice, mine in Empress out of British Columbia, makes the cocktail a beautiful fuchsia color
Erin, love your videos! Concerned about the dahlia with virus, many plant viruses are spread by insects and if you leave a the plant it will be a source of inoculum for the virus transmitting insects, thus endangering your other dahlias. Thanks so much for sharing your garden and knowledge 😊
I am always amazed with all your plants and how you can remember all the names. Love from Australia, so many plants I am not familiar with, so very interesting.
You are inspiring me to cut my lady's mantle all the way back. I just went through and trimmed off tattered leaves, but maybe I'll cut it all down so it can flush back while I'm on vacation.
The spaghnum moss will still fall out very easily if you use chicken wire. I would recommend a 0.5"x0.5" squared galvanized wire mesh. This is what I use for my indoor moss poles, and it works great. I tried the 1"x1" squared wire mesh first, and the spaghnum moss fell out of it easily, and that is a smaller grid of holes than chicken wire.
In your hanging basket with spag. moss might be birds and critters taking it for nests...chickenwire would work. I used fruit tree netting as I didnt want two unlike metals rubbing and foxing to happen and then the vessel starts to degrade.🌱 ✨glad the gardens held there own while you had some Summer fun
"A few days away from the garden and I forgot the names" ... I think the term winternesia works well to explain that phenomenon. Happens big time over the winter months for me. 😅
I switched from coco liner this year to burlap. It seems a little sturdier and i like the look. The rabbits are a huge problem. I was actually looking for the hawk that comes to our yard. You can never find a good hawk when you need it. 😂😂 i resorted to buying wire cages to put around the zinnias and other desired plants, but $$$. Your garden looks gorgeous. Good news is we are done with japanese beetles here in Ohio. If we could just get some rain. 😢
I had some luck in my last garden planting society garlic to deter deer. Trying it this season - planted this morning - for the rabbits who are having a field day with my rudbeckia. Even with puppy wire on my fence they just love my plants apparently. I had some bobbex deer from last house. Sprayed it this morning as well. The smell is horrible
Hi Erin Your Smoke Bush might develop better color and fulness in full sun. I'm thinking it might be getting too much shade. Love your garden videos! Thanks for the effort that goes into these.
I get such great ideas from these walks. Really like the monarda and liatris together. I have both. Was thinking I should move liatris but why - when a bag of liatris bulbs are easy to find. Did not see your stately angelica. Maybe next time. I have no success starting those seeds. I winter sow. Nothing.
Love these strolls! About 15 minutes into the video you show 3 clematis climbing a free standing stucture. Wondering if the wooden structure that's supports them was purchased? A diy project that maybe has a website with the pattern?
