Your theological and moral ruminations inspired by this episode are the reason I love this show. I have pointed out to many fellow Tolkien fans who focus only on lore fidelity that Rings Of Power is engaging with Tolkien's spiritual and moral themes in almost every single episode. Some have noticed it, once I point it out, but many still don't have eyes to see. I encourage you to keep focusing on these themes as Season 2 progresses, because they are central to the story. Charlie Vickers (Sauron/Annatar/Halbrand) and Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor) turn in some masterful performances this season. If they don't get nominated for Emmies, I'm gonna riot.
That snake scene with the masked riders (I’ve been calling them ancient ancestors to the Variags and Rohirrim) is so interesting to me. I wonder what it meeeeeans…
Your reactions are always such a joy to watch! And yes, Cirdan’s wisdom was just beautiful, and tackles an important topic in Tolkien- if everyone was created by the great One Creator (Eru Iluvatar) but free will exists, can those gods, angels, mortals be truly wholly evil in everything they do? Or can (just like in real life) awful people still bring something good to life? And, absolutely loved Sauron’s Lucifer-like entrance, it’s way too fitting (poor Celebrimbor though)
By the time of the LOTR, Sauron has transformed and re-made himself so many times that he can’t appear as his original, angelic form anymore. That’s why he looks so evil in the film trilogy.
