I love absolutely, positively love everything about windy Welly being my home for eight years since 2009. My favorite day off activities included train rides to other suburbs, walking round the bay and trekking up nearby mountains. I lived just at the base of Mt. Victoria at Newtown so it was an easy access for me. However, I made it a regular dose to climb Te Koupahu taking the Brooklyn route to the turbine, up the observatory then down to Island Bay. For my round the bay, I particularly enjoyed the long hour walk around Miramar peninsula because of the panoramic vistas at every turn. I may have left New Zealand in 2016 but the fond memories are etched into my senses. Thus, watching your travelogue on Wellington seems to be de javu for me. Thumbs up for the virtual tour!
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed this virtual tour around Wellington. My son moved to Plimmerton around 2005, after a while he bought a house in Whitby, so I got to know the city a bit over a number of visits. I grew to like the area a bit more each time I visited and discovered more about the surrounding suburbs. Even though my son now lives in Auckland I always try to spend time in Wellington when I visit New Zealand.
Everyone is facing hard time during this pandemic, im just waiting when the borders will be opened so that i could fly to my dream country New Zealand.
Hi, I don't know why, but the colours in New Zealand always appear bright and vibrant, changing as the day progresses, finishing with amazing sunsets. Thank you for your kind comment, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video.
Hello Tim, when you posted the Wellington suburban line a long time ago, I spontaneously fell in love with Wellington. I was particularly fascinated by its urban lightness with the French touch, as can be seen on the streets. If I had to live on the North Island, Wellington would be my first choice. - Greetings, Heinz
Wellington grew on me, the first time I visited it was a wet and windy day, the city was not at its best, the second time I went it had been rocked by a quake a day or two earlier and there was a lot of damage being cleared up. My remaining 4 or 5 visits have been in much better weather, on such days the city goes outdoors and comes to life. It is an area I'd choose to live in if I moved to New Zealand's North Island.
Tim, Wonderful adventure, beautiful sunsets. Looking at your comments, I now know why you have many adventures to NZ and to visit your family. Have a great day. Ted
Hello Ted, Wellington is a place I'd chose to live if I was going to make New Zealand my home, it really is a lovely city. My son lived in and around the city for about 10 years before moving to Auckland. It is likely I would never have travel so much had my children not decided to live all over the world. I'm glad they did, it has opened my eyes to the wonderful world out there.
Wonderful film ,Tim.I know every sq.metre having lived there 44 years as a cyclist. Very nice on a good day,I don't miss the wind though.Oh,and stormy winters.Much milder here in Levin, and more affordable houses,at least in 2014.And steam train comes past quite often.Keep up the good work.
Ah Wellington. There is no where quite like it is there. I've been lucky to have time and the money to catch the Capital Connection down there for a day, then catch it back to Levin quite a few times over the last 25 odd years. While also having plenty of wee holidays down there with family. It never gets old.
Hi, I see from your videos that you are familiar with this wonderful rail journey along the Kapiti Coast, I can't think of a more picturesque commute to work. I've grown to love Wellington over the years, one of the most relaxing cities I've had the pleasure to visit
Thank you, I am pleased you enjoyed this video, there are plenty more on my channel, please take a look and hopefully some of them might be of interest to you.
My son moved there for a while before moving on to Auckland. If I was younger I'd be looking to make the move from the UK to Wellington, it's a lovely place.
as the locals said "you cannot beat Wellington with a gorgeous day!". However the fact is there are 150 days have quite miserable, extremely windy, cold and damp days!
I'm sorry you missed this gem of a city, although as you have been lucky enough to visit New Zealand, I'm sure you got to see some of the other gems this wonderful country offers.
Don't look like it's changed much In the last 30, 40, 50 years, She's still Wellington. You going to do a trip up the Valley. Then I can really feel homesick AF. Living in Brazil for the past 10 years 600km inland from the coast.
Hi Tim! I can only say that this is a wonderful country. There's always something going on in the city. Everything is very well maintained. Nature conservation is certainly very important. Road traffic is a problem all over the world. So it is best to sit in the "Jungle Express" and enjoy the country from the window. I will soon send you an email with "important" information from Austria. Best regards from Hans. 😊🇦🇹🍺
Hello Hans, I hope you and your family are keeping well. Wellington is a lovely city, the countryside is never far away, although it is small, it has a big city buzz about it, as you say there is always something going on. Its funny how cars caused railways to contract, today it is the number of cars on the road that is causing railways to find a new lease of life, all over the world cities are investing in their railways as cars choke cities to death, both with pollution and congestion. I'll look out for your Email. Take care. Tim.
Australia is home to some very nice cities, if you get an opportunity to visit New Zealand, Wellington is well worth visiting, in Part 2, I will show some of the places tourists are not so aware of.
Hi Bill, there are some excellent videos on UA-cam showing driver's eye views of Melbourne's trams and trains, the reason I chose the back was because the best views are seen from the back, although I guess the back does become the front when the tram goes back down the hill.

Hi, I used to spell Remutaka (Rimutaka) until I was fact checking, using the internet where confusion reigns, in the end I went with this article - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remutaka_Range where I found this explanation - The Remutaka Range (spelled Rimutaka Range before 2017) I imagine both spellings are equally acceptable these days.

Very nice, indeed! Though Wellington, smaller than Auckland, is NZ's Capital, I'd hazzard a guess that Wellington would dwarf Australia's capital, Canberra, somehow. The entire Australian Capital Territory is barely more than Canberra and its suburbs, and honestly, the ACT should not have separate status at all. It should be regarded simply as a region of NSW, like the Hunter Valley, New England, Riverina, Illawarra, etc.
Hi Neil. glad you enjoyed it, just as people often think of Auckland as New Zealand's capital, they also think of Sydney as being Australia's capital whereas as you bring to our attention Canberra is the capital, it is also only the 8th largest city in Oz. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wellington. Using these two articles, both cities are relatively small, Canberra having a population of 426,704 (2019) and Wellington 215,100 (2020). Facts and figures make interesting comparisons.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I wasn't going on population, I was going on geographical size. And I was hazarding a guess, as it was.
