- Welcome to Ultimate Karate! In today's video we are learning Kata Kanku Dai (観空大).

In Shotokan karate, Kankū-dai consists of 65 movements executed in about 90 seconds. It is a major form of the kata; its equivalent minor form is called Kankū-shō. Kankū-dai was one of Gichin Funakoshi's favorite kata and is a representative kata of the Shotokan system. The embusen (path of movement) of Kankū-shō is similar to that of Kankū-dai, but it begins differently. It is a compulsory Shotoan kata and of high technical merit. As a result of Anko Itosu's efforts, the Heian kata contain sequences taken from Kankū-dai.

Hi Jason! I'm Brazilian, I live in Bahia. I graduated to brown belt in Shotokan Karate, approximately 40 years ago, when I suffered a serious motorcycle accident and was forced, on medical advice, to stop practicing Karate. Today I am 70 years old and I returned to practicing Karate approximately 2 months ago. Today, despite my age, I am completely healthy and my goal is to take the black belt exam. Parabens pela coragem de voltar nessa idade.. é bem mais complicado decidir fazer atividade fisica, eu comecei a poucos meses, sou faixa branca e tenho 37 anos.. estou 1 mes sem treinar pq machuquei o tornozelo treinando ushiro ura.. estou doido pra me recuperar e voltar a treinar..
E força e foco para buscar a faixa preta, meu primo tem 59 anos agora, voltou a treinar dps de 20 anos e estava na marrom tbm.. ele infartou treinando e se recuperou e conseguiu realizar o sono da faixa preta dele que foi adiado por um tempo... a faixa preta do senhor com certeza irá chegar também !! torço para que mantenha o foco !!

@@isaacgamez2549 no. It just took 20 minutes you just need to focus and you’ll be good 👍🏻
Try this technique first learn the first 6 steps then keep doing it until it’s locked in you brain and then learn the next 5 steps until it is locked in your brain and then try adding them together until you have learned the first 11 steps keep doing that with the whole kata it should be easier 👍🏻
@@shahashuaib1145yeah actually few days ago it took me like 40 minutes to Memorise it. 4 days to get perfect accuracy and like 6 to 7 days to give good amount of power and speed while keeping the accuracy. You just need to train hard and believe in yourself.

Thank you so much. The dojo where I earned my 1st dan closed many years ago and during the pandemic I decided to relearn the black belt forms that I used to know (I only knew two well, but want to learn more, once I get better at this one and Bassai Dai!), but it's hard with only the text book. It's also hard to watch a video while practicing with so much motion, but the way you go through it three times, once at full force and speed, once with every move explained slowly, and once with the count (and not quite full speed) is SO perfect! Your video is the first one that has really worked for me to help me remember the last 20 seconds, and the fine tuning of technique, and I've been looking around for quite a while. @@krishnashahu3501 Bassai Dai should really be your focussed kata progressing onto Enpi, Hangetsu and Nijushiho. However, having said that, you really have to ensure that your Heian katas and Tekki Shodan kata are still with you. As a 1st Kyu, various associations may vary the order of their intermediate katas.

Sou faixa branca ainda, e consegui memorizar os movimentos do tekki shodan, bassai dai e join graças aos seus videos... estava começeando tekki nidan e sandan, porem machuquei o tornozelo e estou 1 mes sem treinar (me recuperando pro exame de faixa) agora quero aprender kanku dai e jiin

Sensei says I need to know the five Heian, Tekki Shodan, and one of the following: Kanku Dai, Bassai Dai, Empi, Jion. He says i can choose which of the four I want to learn for my next grading. After watching your videos i have decided to learn Kanku Dai first.

The school that taught me is non-affiliated, we are not part of an organization.

Funny commentaries! There are really "Karate Student" that don't understand anything! A brown belt or 1st or 2nd Dan is nothing! Even a 3rd Dan is still a student. As a 4th Dan you can say: Now the journey begins....
