Why Budha in Hindu temple? You should instead ask Why Hindus in BUDHIST Temple. It's all overpowering and Conquest during many decades. Sadly it's not only in Nepal but in India as well. Buddhism got viped out by Hindus and Muslim and Largest university called NALANDA burned and fire lasted for about 9 months. Go deeper and You will know it's very different.

2500 years ago there was no India and no Nepal, it was Akhand Bharat. Buddha was born in Lumbini which is part of Present Nepal. Buddha got enlightenment in Gaya which is presently in Bihar India. His first sermons were given in Sarnath, which is presently part of India. Buddha belongs to the whole world. Buddha is for everyone. His message is love, harmony and peace. He is for the whole earth. Buddha teaches us to leave our possessions and meditate for enlightenment but we become possessive for Buddha. Let's just say Buddha is for all of us whereever we are.
There was no akhand bharat as well....thats the most pakhand thing to say......we were small little principalities ruled by tribesmen.....we did not pay our taxes to any indian rulers....sadly we do now...
