    very nicely presented video. i just took delivery of the acacia deluxe from you and after playing for a few hours i love it. i also have a Kala tenor travel uke which i thought was very good. certainly very loud! but the more i play the Pono
    , the more i like it 😊

    As a fellow “Lefty-strung-Righty” player, just want to say I enjoyed your demo. I just ordered the Pono MT New Mahogany Tenor uke (it’s on its way to me) and it was great to hear that actual model played “our way”. Nice work!

    Great video!! I went for the mango deluxe tenor and I love it beautiful wood and I love the sound. Although maybe I should have given the wound C more of a chance. I’ve had martin fluorocarbons on it and worth Browns. Can’t decide which I like best

      I am considering getting one (I just turned 21 and it would be my gift to myself). Are you still enjoying it? And how are the tuning pegs?

    I have the MT-SP, Mahoghany Tenor- Spruce bought site unseen when all covid restrictions were on in Honolulu, saw it online, called the Ukulelesite, they set it up and delivered it with their ask on. Paid $476 at the time. No longer offered, but the higher range MDT-SP is $799. So Pono has gone up in $, probably why they can be featured. Are they still made in Indonesia?

    Alex I have a Mama tenor however my hands just does not stretch that wide. I am looking for a smaller nut on a concert, so would you tell when the nut is not as wide.

    Great video and very useful comparison. I am considering buying Pono AT (satin acacia tenor). Which chords are you playing?

    Great video! I was hoping you’d feature a cedar top tenor with Macassar ebony back and sides. In your opinion, how does that compare to the spruce and cedar ones you played?

      They are cleaner sounding and usually the Pro Classics are lighter built so the instrument feels like its vibrating more in your hands.. I will be sure to feature some Pro-Classics when they arrive in November.
      Thanks for watching.

    Pono acd concert deluxe or Kala solid acacia sound not so bright
    vs the Martin c1K which sounds really bright
    maybe it's the best i don't know

    • @Bluegrassfan01
      @Bluegrassfan01 4 роки тому

      The brightness may not be anything other than the brand and type strings that are on it.

    I am intrigued by the tune you are playing. How can I find out how to play it?

    PONO ACD ALL SOLID ACACIA DELUXE CONCERT UKULELE GLOSS
    better than a kala solid acacia?

    • @SouthernUkuleleStore
      @SouthernUkuleleStore  5 років тому +2

      Yes if you are judging it on build quality In my opinion. Although the gloss finish on the Pono produces a different kind of character than the Kala. The debate here isn't purely about which Acacia uke is better but also whether gloss or satin is more suitable for the end user.

      @@SouthernUkuleleStore the important for me is all solid parts, good geared tuners, intonation and nut and a good sound maybe not dark not bright just in the middle to sound like a great ukulele can sound thinking about an island and music
      i was looking for a 100% all solid koa concert
      under 700euros
      hard to find it

    • @SouthernUkuleleStore
      @SouthernUkuleleStore  5 років тому +2

      Good luck. The Martin is the only one I can think of.
      The problem with Koa is that it is expensive. You have to weigh up whether it may be best to save up just a little bit more and consider Kanile'a, KoAloha or Kamaka as well.
      Good luck

    I once had a Pono MTD. Frankly I was disappointed with it. Beautifully made and finished but very quiet compared to my Kala solid cedar/acacia tenor. Maybe I should have tried different strings. And strangely it was noticeably body heavy--as if it was overbuilt. Having said all that I am tempted to give them another try.The spruce one would get my vote.

    • @SouthernUkuleleStore
      @SouthernUkuleleStore  6 років тому +2

      The Ponos are much thicker built than a Kala for sure.. I’m not surprised it wasn’t as loud as your Kala ATP-CTG as they have a cedar top.. the last Ukulele in today’s video is noticeably louder too.
      I’m not sure different strings would have improved the volume, it’s just not the loudest Uke in the world so don’t kick yourself. Sometimes a Uke just isn’t what you were after.
      I prefer that particular Kala model to an MTD myself for the same reasons.

    • @kingstumble
      @kingstumble 6 років тому +2

      Fair point about cedar being louder. I also have two spruce top ukuleles which are also quieter than the Kala but the Pono I had was quieter than those too. The fact that the Pono is thicker is not a "good thing" in my opinion. Thinner woods may be a tad more delicate but they are definitely more resonant.
