Rim width affects the tire height and width, so you’d have to make gauges for each rim width to be accurate. Some companies measure width from the casing and some with knobs measure from the outside of the knobs.

I imagine you can do something with various calipers, but then you'd also need a rim brake 27.5 or 700c rim. I'm thinking of brazing on disk brake tabs.
I was thinking the same thing, not totally sure. I think what they did is started with the overall width and then tried to guess the normal profile of a tire in terms of the radius. I feel like maybe they made it a bit more round then what most real tires are. But yes I think the idea is to account to the knobs.
@@BruceChastain Haha I think he means when the front can clear a certain size, but the rear can't clear it (as you have demonstrated in the video). Fat rear tires either hit the chain stays, brake bridge, or front derailleur.

yeah true, I think this is only a guide, from there I'm thinking to size down one size.

how are u going to compensate for the reach of the brake pads when going from 26 to 27.5? Paul motolites can do it I think but very expensive

worst thing is when it clears the forks but rubs the front derailleur
